Hiatal Hernia and LapBand surgery post op
kentx05 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone. I was just banded this past Monday, Aug 9th. My hiatal hernia was also repaired at this time. What I have noticed is a bad ache anytime I take a deep breath on my left shoulder and rib cage. I've been reading around and I now know that this is normal for those who also had hiatal hernia repair on the same day. My question is, when did your left shoulder or rib pain go away? I'm looking for those like me who had both surgeries on the same day laproscopically. I would hate to have a tight chest and ribcage everytime I take a deep breath. Any help would be great. -

Thanks for the good news KatyinLasVegas. I do use my heating pad but I'm scared it might burn a whole in me after how many times I"ve used it. Lol. -

Thanks for the advice stefaniwig. I've been taking deep breaths into the little apparatus they gave me before leaving the hosptital. Yesterday I went out on my own and walked but found myself tired and slow. Afterwards I did feel better though. One thing I can't stomach though is eating more than one Protein shake. Yuk. -
Hiatal Hernia and LapBand surgery post op

CoriCa, Hang in there. We're in it together. I still have my rib and shoulder pain but the solace I have is that the pain always goes away. It has gotten better every day but I just want to feel like I did pre-op. Still, I trust everybody when they say it'll eventually go away. I don't have the nauseous feeling just yet. The pain is annoying enough though. -
Hi all. I'm getting banded tomorrow and I'm super excited. I've been waiting for this for a while. I've already dropped over 27 lbs on the pre-op diet that I started in June. I was wondering if their is any advice you can give me for as what it will be like after the surgery. Thanks.

August Rush in bandland!
kentx05 replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got banded this past Monday, Aug 9th and today is the first day that I feel my breathing is getting better. I didn't mind the soreness around the stomach or even the pain in your left shoulder. Not being able to take a deep breath was a killer. Now I'm close to reaching my goal for deep breathing at 2500. I can now blown into that little tube to 2000. Yesterday it was consistently at 1500. How's everybody else's breathing doing? Oh, and my Protein shakes bloat me so I think I'm going to only drink one a day . -
Breathing problems post-op
kentx05 replied to Betsyjane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing. I was operated on this past MOnday and I'm still having trouble taking a deep breath. It feels like chest is tight. I'm just hoping this passes. The Gas-x is not working for me and not the walking. Does it only go away in its own time. Also, has anyone been taking any anti inflamatory medicine? I don't know if we're allowed. What brand do you take if you do? -
Getting Banded Tomorrow Aug 9th

Also, are any of you having trouble eating. I'm not hungry at all but I know the doctor told me to drink my protein shakes. It's just hard because I slowly drink them and then I feel more bloated. I'm not using milk, just plain old water. I can't wait for the swelling to go down so that I take in deep breaths again. -

Well I actually have both shoulders hurting. My chest feels like I can't breath in that deeply either. I know this all because of the swelling. Last night was hard because I had to keep going to the bathroom because of all the iv fluids they pump you with. Getting out of the bed was the hardest thing. I'm taking Gas-X strips for the gas but they don't seem to be working that well. I'll give it time. However, I'm sleeping on a recliner tonight. I want to be able to be comfortable getting up and laying down. How are you feeling today? -
I just had my surgery yesterday and I'm really excited about it. I read all about these post op healing and was prepared. So yes, I am bloated and it's annoying. I also can't breathe in as deep as I could yesterday pre-surgery. I'm assuming it's because I'm bloated out of my mind. The doctor also had to repair a hiatal hernia. Question: I know it's different for everybody but when does the bloatedness go away and did anybody else have trouble breathing as deep as before?
-
Great question, I was just going to ask this myself. I just surgery yesterday. The bloatedness is a little annoying. I don't think I have any gas come out anywhere. I've been taking my Gas-X as well. I hope the bloated stomach goes away after this week. Also, I noticed that I can't breath in as deeply as I could before. Does anybody else have that problem? How about sleeping. It's hard to get in a comfortable position and then worse to try to get up.

Getting Banded Tomorrow Aug 9th
kentx05 replied to kentx05's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Feeling relatively well after band surgery today. Yes I'm bloated and left shoulder hurts a little but other than that, by God's grace, it's not so bad. Can't wait to eat my first Protein shake tomorrow after one day of only Clear liquids. -

Any great high protein, low carb, low fat recipe websites
kentx05 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm wondering if anybody knows of a great website to find high Protein, low carb and fat recipes that actually taste great. I'm not much of a vegetable eater but I love meat. Also, I'm really interested in hearing what everybody eats for Breakfast. I have not been banded just yet, been approved but I'm waiting for the doctor's office to tell me my surgery date. Thanks all. -

Those cheese stuffed chicken breasts sound good. There are books for life after weight loss surgery? Can you mention some names? Also, how do you make your eggs and bacon? frying them? -
Yesterday I just finished my final test before True Results sends my information to the insurance company. I completed the 3 month diet, all heart and pyschological testing and my 3 year medical information was submitted. My question is this: Aetna says that unless you have a co-morbidity which I don't, you need to have a 40 plus BMI to qualify. Also, you must have that for the past three years. I'm unsure if I was over 40 BMI for ALL 3 years. More than likely I was at 40 for the last 2 years. What are my chances that I get approved? Has anybody been approved with having less than 40 BMI for any of their past 3 years? I'm so hoping to get good news but that really hurt to see that just because I wasn't morbidly obese for all three years, they would consider denying me. Any help with this would be great. Thanks.
-
Thank you Lord, thank you Lord, thank you Lord. I actually was approved and I'm elated. My pre-op visit with the doctor is on Friday. Can anybody tell me how long it took for them to get the surgery done after the pre-op visit. Is within the next 2 weeks to hard to strive for. I'm a teacher and I definately want to get it done before I go back in late August.
-
Congratulations to you too. Wow, you were approved pretty fast. Have you gone to your pre-op visit? I'm hoping to go real soon. Do you know when your surgery will happen? I have no clue how booked they are with surgeries but I'm so hoping it'll be before mid August. My advocate wasn't really good with returning phonecalls but I made sure to stay on them.
-
I have absolutely wonderful news. By the grace of God I have been approved to have LapBand surgery. God is good. I am so happy about this. Obviously it's been a long road coming. Now I have to set up my pre-op appointment with True Results. Easier said than done. I couldn't get a hold of my Lapband advocate today so I'm still waiting to get the appoinment. God willing, I'll have surgery before school starts.
-
That's awesome. My experience has been much different. I'm still waiting and it's been over a month. I have a feeling I'll be denied. I just wish they'd get it over with.
-
I'm not absolutely sure it's called an EPT test or an EFT test. Either way, the test they gave me was to check to see if I had any airway obstruction. I had to breath in and out several times and such. I think I did well. I wonder how long it takes True Results to send your info for insurance approval though. It's like watching the clock while you work out.
-
I'm with True Results as well. It seems like you have an excellent chance to get approved. You have high blood pressure and your BMI is between 35 and 40. That makes you an excellent candidate. Good luck to you. You're in my prayers.
