Anyone Else Banded By Dr. Balder
nanniemidder replied to Blondiee9584's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi all, I have not posted here before but thought I would put my dates on here. I will be banded by Dr. Strickland at the SC Obesity Center at LMC. I have my filter put in on the 2nd of April and the lap band procedure on the 10th. I was beginning to think this day would never come lol! I have a profile on ObesityHelp.com if anyone would like to read my journey to this point. -
I will be making this journey with the help of my family! I applied for my social security disability in July after years of battling ill health and then recently had to have a heart cath done. Thank goodness the heart is really okay. Today I got a letter from social security stating that I have been turned down for disability! Big bummer :cry. I am 5 foot tall and weigh just over 325 pounds. I am tired of feeling lousy all the time and just getting larger and larger - I want to be able to enjoy my grandchildren and do things with them. So after the hospital scare my brother and sister decided to help me pay for the surgery. I do not have insurance of any kind so this is self pay for them - they are the greatest. I am a little worried about how well I will do on the lap band surgery but the bypass is another $11,000 more than the lap band here. I am very happy with my doctor and am looking forward to getting this paid and getting a date soon. If anyone has any words of encouragement they would like to share or tales of any their journey I am very interested.

Hi - I am from the Gaston area right outside of Columbia (about 26 miles) and am a pre-op patient of Dr. Strickland at SC Obesity (Riverside Surgical). It is nice to find other people from the area on here - do you have a support group you attend? Hope to hear more from you soon.

Reasonably priced Drs in the US for Self payers?
nanniemidder replied to VABandster's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am going to have the lap band done this next year - but the cost is over $20,000 since I have to have the IVP filter put in too. I have no insurance at all but have some family members who are planning to pay for this surgery for me - thank God for them! What I was wondering about was the Monterrey, Mexico site with Dr. Sanchez. Has anyone on here had their surgery done there and what was it like? -

I am pre-op and as I am self-pay it will be early next year before I can have the surgery done:think . My family members are planning to help me financially :clap2:. Thank heavens for a loving family! I am only 5 foot tall and have a rather large frame to go along with that. I weighed in at 327 pounds for my first appointment but have lost 3 pounds since. I am really looking forward to this journey and having the support of others in the same boat as myself. If I am not wrong I think my doctor my BMI was 63.1 . Look forward to checking out other responses to the posts on here. http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/3;10704;104;0;0/c/-3/t/-192/k/6bc6/weight.png -

I live in Gaston, SC right outside of Columbia. I am hoping to be able to get banded in March or April of this next year. I am worried about controlliing my food intake and all too. I do know that my doctor (Dr. Strickland) and his group have a great support group and I also talk to some people on ObesityHelp.com for support - I would love to keep in touch with anyone else who will give and need support through our journies. -

Newbie here also! I have met with my surgeon already but as I don't have insurance I already know I am self-pay. Well I have three family members who are planning to pay mine and they said they should have it paid by March and then I can schedule the surgery if all the evals are okay. I am so excited I feel like dancing all the time and I have not danced since I was 25 lol. Good luck with your journey.
