Went to get my first fill and my surgeon bent 4 needles trying to access, xray under flouroscopy looks like the port is fine, but it could be flipped? My surgeon said I will have to go back into surgery to fix it. DANGIT!!!

Not losing only eating 600 calories a day, anyone else experience this?
Tsaleen replied to lisab1965's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"I haven't went to the bathroom but only once since surgery" You had surgery 3.5 weeks ago with only one BM???????? This is not good, either there is a serious problem or you might take a 10 pound poop one of these days. Ask your doctor about the lack of movement. -
I had to pay for it, so far my copay was $627 for the hospital, versus almost $6K for the band surgery. I was admitted at 11am and discharged by 2:30pm, twilight sedation, no abdominal gas, sent home with liquid codeine. Only took it the first night.

I just had port revision surgery last week, port flipped too. The surgery was no big deal only a few days until I was feeling better.

Today is my 1 year Bandiversary!!!!!!

So happy for you hot mamma! -
Sorry everyone I have been so busy, I just wanted to follow up. I went in for port revision surgery yesterday at noon. They put me under sedation (no breathing tube) and I was done with surgery within an hour, discharged by 3pm. My surgeon also did a 1cc fill. I don't know yet if I have any restriction. He cut into my large incision and extended it a little bigger. I was told no shower until Sunday! Ugh! Doctor called me a few times yesterday but I was sleeping drowsy off the meds. He called me today and said the port was flipped, that the anchors only deployed 2/3 way (Yes it is a Realize-C band). He said he used sutures this time to anchor the port and it should not be going anywhere. I think the port flipped the day of surgery, I am a side and stomach sleeper and I slept on my side since day 2 post-op. I remember checking out my tummy area after surgery and noticing a bulge where my port is, I think it was on it's side at that point. Other than that the revision surgery was a piece of cake, I am a bit tired and on liquids for two days but other than needing a good shower I am doing well!

Banded 2006-I hate my band
Tsaleen replied to SapphicBander's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow that is crazy that you went so long un-guided. I can't imagine! Keep on studying and hopefully we hear this story turn into a success for you! -
Any ideas behind this reasoning...
Tsaleen replied to bwhitty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"His way of doing things after surgery doesn't seem to go along with a lot of what I'm reading here." Interesting, I read this forum for 3 months pre-surgery and I was under the assumption no fill until 6 weeks was the normal. My surgeon does not do a fill until at least 6 weeks because your stomach needs time to heal? -
Confused and discouraged
Tsaleen replied to fredgood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GIRL !!!! I was banded a day after you, I am also down 20 pounds but I am psyched! 20 pounds in 5 weeks that is like 4 pounds a week. It took me 3 months to lose a solid 7 pounds pre-op. 20 pounds is a big deal, go to the store and grab a 20 pound bag of dog food and walk around the store for 15 minutes!!! -
Confused and discouraged
Tsaleen replied to fredgood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was considering whether to get banding or bypass, I was told by my surgeon and the head nutritionist at the weight loss center that I should NOT get banded if I am a grazer. I am not a grazer, I have portion control issues. I was told grazers have a hard time losing weight with the band because they often find ways to cheat by snacking throughout the day. Unless you are willing to give up your snacking ways you will probably struggle. You should have a protien drink twice a day and 3 small (satisfying to your cravings) nutritious meals (protein first). You can do it! -
I think your going to have a very hard time. You will still be healing from surgery (which takes about 6 weeks) and your energy level will be very poor from the lack of calories. From weeks 2 to 3 I went back to work and I was exhausted. My advice would be to cancel the trip.

Feeling Unwelcome Here
Tsaleen replied to peggycas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cyber Bullying is not a new phenomenon. It is amazing what some people say under the cover of anonymity. The ironic part is most of the people here were probably subject to being picked on and ridiculed due to former or current obesity issues. Shame on them. I wouldn't leave, ignore what they say, and stick to the topics that help you. I am annoyed myself about the anal sex topic, I find it offensive and childish and will not even read topics like that. -
Need protein supplements with stevia
Tsaleen replied to smartnrse's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Maybe try unflavored powder, spruce it up yourself with Stevia and some SF pudding powder in a magic bullet? -
HELP!! 2 weeks post op and strong abdominal pain!

Could it be lactose intolerance from your protein drinks? -
Why so many Pre-Ops in the Post-Op section?
Tsaleen replied to sekinj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a tendency to agree with the poster. If you are pre-op maybe you shouldn't respond to post-op threads. It makes it look like there are informative responses in the thread but it's not the case. Then again, some people don't like being the first to respond to a thread, so the unbanded response makes the thread more inviting. When I was pre-op I kept the post-op trolling stealth!! -
Can I have your opinions about what the doctor said
Tsaleen replied to flaco88's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The weight loss center kept trying to push RnY on me when I was set on gastric banding. Finally my surgeon said "I will only do what the PATIENT wants" and I think the weight loss center feels more patients fail at banding than gastric so they want their stats to look good. -
My husband has told me so far Babe I can tell you are losing weight, you used to have this huge fat bump on the back of your neck and now it is gone! After having sex he told me my legs lost weight because when I used to bend over the fat in my thighs used to squish my vajayjay together and now it is more spread apart! I can tell your losing weight, your neck and chin used to be HUGE and now it is almost gone! WTF, MEN!!! :w00t:

Help, How do you get the crushed pills down YUK
Tsaleen replied to macie1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is what I do to take my gallstone medicine, I have tried to mix it with a few different things and it is nasty. Take a small shot glass with an ounce or so of warm Water (very warm if possible but not HOT) Dump the crushed medicine in the shot, swirl it around, give it some time to dissolve. Take the shot, rinse out your mouth afterward with warm water and spit Hope this helps! -
4oz's does not equal 1/2 cup!
Tsaleen replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My suggestion, put hot fudge on everything, you will get there in no time! J/K DO NOT DO THIS BANDSTERS!! -
GAS!!! Most likely. I had gas pains up to about day 8. The worst was through day 5.

4oz's does not equal 1/2 cup!
Tsaleen replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am pretty sure my instructions from the weight loss center say 1/2 - 3/4 cup of food volume per meal for the first year, and eventually after one year I will be able to eat up to a 1 1/2 cup per meal max (without stretching pouch) -
I can totally relate to this. All my life I have been teased or insulted for being "fat." Even in HS when I was playing 3 sports and in the best shape of my life I was still at best a size 14. I WISH I HAD THAT BODY NOW!!!! My sister was the slender one, I took after my dad. When my father died, he could not fit in a normal sized casket, but he wanted to be cremated anyway. The point being he was a LARGE man. When I went in for surgery, my mom cried so much. She kept saying how proud she was that I was doing this and how beautiful I will be when I lose weight. She told the nurse how beautiful I was when I was younger, and the nurse said "She is beautiful now" My mom still said "yes but she was much beautiful not so overweight" UGH, they never get it. Oh and my mom said I "let myself go" to my surgeon at my first appointment. Actually, I have lost 50+ pounds at least 4 times in my life, I just always gradually put the weight back on, and then some! Don't let it get you down, we are all doing this for ourselves. PS. Someone told me the other day "I hope you did this surgery for yourself and not for vanity reasons, because, you got it going on already"

2 days post op and in pain.....Scaredy cat
Tsaleen replied to Angeleyes716's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't understand why they gave you pain pills, poor thing. Ask for the liquid pain meds or get some liquid tylenol. -
adult acne can be set off by hormonal changes and stress, hopefully over time your body will adjust and the acne will settle down. I was also taking sprionolactone for hypertension, I also have PCOS. This medication is a mild diruetic and it is also used to treat acne problems. I noticed while I was on it my acne was almost non-existant. I have not taken it since my banding because I am worried about dehydration, but I have been debating going back on it. I am supposed to take 25 mg a day and usually I just take it every other day.

Very upset and disappointed.
Tsaleen replied to sounddude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Obesity is not a disease, it is a condition. It is also a compounding condition, being overweight makes it harder to lose weight because of hormonal issues, energy levels, metabolic issues and the way our bodies process insulin. Sounds like you should at least explore getting converted to bypass surgery, you should at least find out if your insurance will approve it if you continue to have co-morbidities. Depression meds can cause you to gain weight too, you should evaluate that issue too. Don't give up on yourself so easily, the hardest part is getting the initial momentum, and then once you get going it gets easier and easier. Obesity is a lifestyle choice, and you don't have to make that choice. Just work on it one pound at a time.
