I am Bergen County. Getting my sleeve with Dr. Gritsus at Valley Hospital on Sept. 3. I was banded Sept. 2010 and I had to have it removed May, 2014. I did very well with band losing 135 lbs. the first year then in 2012 I had to have thryroid removal surgery. The fills and unfils did me in. Could never get back into the green zone. This year we decided to have band remove and try the sleeve. I did gain about 50 lbs. Hopefully I can take that all back off, plus a few more.

I use Miralax on a daily basis. It helped me a lot when I had the lapband. So I will continue to use it. good luck to you, I can't wait to be sleeved on Sept. 3.

I had my lapband removed in May. On Sept. 3rd I am having the sleeve portion done. My doctor doesn't do both on the same day. He likes your stomach to heal. Good luck to you.

Wanted: September Sleevers!
papoose replied to Liberianne_Gal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My date is Sept. 3rd at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ. I had my Lapband removed in May. My Lapband was placed Sept. 2010. I lost 135 lbs my first year. It worked very well. Until 2013 when I had to have an unfill to have thyroid surgery. After that when I got my fills it always was too tight. Every month it was back and forth. So finally my doctor suggested doing the sleeve. I read about then agreed. So here I am. I hope it works very well. I am a bit nervous. My doctors we only do the prep the day before. A liquid diet. -

I am August 27th. Can't wait. Good luck to everyone. -
do you need seperate surgery; 1st band removed and later the sleeve?
papoose replied to janna13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my band removed in May. I am having my sleeve done on August 28th. Mr. Dr. said that he likes to give your stomach time to heal in between. I actually was scheduled for July 9th and felt that was too quick. And I wanted to enjoy the summer. I am not sure about the costs. My insurance company is paying for everything. They also paid for my lapband surgery 3 years ago. Good luck to you. -
I was banded in 2010. All was going good. I lost 135 lbs in the first year in a half. I had to have my thyroid taken out in 2012. At that time I had a unfill because of the surgery. I never was able to get back to my sweet spot again. I gained about 50 lbs. Finally, I talked to my Dr. About getting. My insurance company approved the revision surgery. On Wednesday May 28, 2014 I had my Lapband taken out and due to get the sleeve surgery in eight weeks. Kind of excited, I hope it all works out for me,

Today I had my Lapband removed after 3 years. I lost 135 lbs in 1 year and 1/2. At the end of 2012 I had to have fluid removed to have my thyroid removed. We started to refill it again in about 3 months. I would continually be back and forth in dr's office for removal of fluid. In a couple of months we would fill again. We did that for a whole year. Finally, I asked about revision. So today was first step. I actually feel pretty good. I haven't had to take any meds since I have been home. In eight weeks I will have the sleeve done. Oh, I forgot to say I gained about 50 lbs. I am so excited to join the sleeve club.

I am going through the same thing. I was banded 9/2010. The first year I lost 135 lbs. I needed thyroid surgery in 2012 I had an unfill. Started getting my fills back 4 months later and have been having a problem with fills ever since. My fills are done all with flouroscopy. I was getting filled everything was working well and all of a sudden I need another unfill. Took out a little and got a refill in January of this year. I am now feeling tight a lot. Started drinking Protein shakes in the morning because I couldn't eat anything. But I noticed I am not losing anything. I did gain about 50 lbs in the meantime and I am now having a hard time taking it off. Went to Dr. today he won't give me anymore fills because of tightness. He told me my band is showing signs of it is filled to its capacity. I didn't keep up with the amount of cc's I have, but I know it is know way near 10 cc's. I probably have about 5 ccs or less. We discussed having it removed and getting the sleeve. So I am thinking about doing that.

I use it all the time. After a stuck episode. It either makes you throw up or pushes the food down. I get the chewable tablet. You take 3 or 4. Sometimes if I may have taken one bite too many. I chew a few and feels so much better. It helps in digesting your food. Something to keep on hand.

Gained 40 Pounds And Now Going Back For Fill After Unfill Earlier This Year.
papoose replied to kileyh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had 4 cc's taken out in November due to surgery. I was at my sweet spot before the unfill. Very comfortable in eating, not losing anything but I was good. I got a fill of 2 ccs in January. My Dr. wants to take it slow in giving me fills. I had an appt. for another fill in Feb., but because of a schedule change it was cancelled. I have an appt. tomorrow. Due to my unfill I gained 30 lbs. When I had my fill in Jan. I had lost about 10 lbs. But have noticed I have gained most back. I am not back to my swee spot. I hope tomorrow my fill really helps. I am 2 years out and thought I would have better control over my eating, but I guess not. I found it was so easy to go back to my old way eating. No matter how hard I tried not to. So for me the lapband really helps and works for me to control my eating. -
I live in Englewood. There is a support group at Englewood Hospital this Monday (3/11) at 7:00 p.m. It's a good group. A nutritionist runs the support group.

I have a problem with getting boots past my ankle. I have a lympdema in my leg. I finally was able to get the zipper past my ankle. So that was a great NSV for me.

Question: Any help would be appreciated
papoose replied to Wyld_Love's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been banded 2 years. I had thyroid surgery a month ago and I had to have 4 ccs removed before I had my surgery. The surgeon didn't want any complications. I am ready to get a fill, but holding off until after the holidays. I have gained about 10 lbs., but sure it will come off once I get my fill. You should speak to the surgeon doing your surgery and your lapband surgeon to see what is best for you. -
Also get Miralax. Too much fiber seems to constipate me. So I have Miralax everyday and it seems to help me.
-
Get papaya enzyme pills. They work pretty good. Chew 3 or 4. It will either go down or make whatever is stuck come up. Then just stick to liquids for a few hours.
-
After 3 weeks of being banded and on liquids for 3 weeks (per dr's orders) I had gas pains so bad I ended up in the emergency room. I was given a CT scan and other blood tests also a barium swallow and nothing showed up. They just figured it was gas. I have been banded for 2 years and just a couple of weeks ago the same thing happened, I had gas pains so bad had to go to the emergency room and all tests came back nothing going on. Just gas. If pains are that bad, you need to go get checked out. Good luck.

I am having surgery in a couple of weeks and have to have an unfill. Hopefully, I won't be unfilled all the way. I am so worried about gaining weight. Reading your entry gives me hope.

I eat fried chicken wing and have no problem. I also eat ribs and have no problem. Sometimes you have to use gravy or a sauce on your meats. If they are too dry they will get stuck. I put chicken wings in my crockpot all the time and have no problem. Also try steaming your meats. Don't heat them in the microwave. Microwave seems to dry the meats out.
