    Angry much?

To avoid all this I did not tell my coworkers or hardly anyone. I foresaw what would happen if I did. I also weighed 190 lbs and the few people who knew about my lap band consideration thought I was crazy and not a candidate at my weight. I had tried every single diet and nothing worked. When I hit the big 40, I am currently 41, everything, including my weight, went beserk on me. The best decision that I have made in a long time is getting the lap band. As of today, I am 40 lbs lighter and 15 lbs away from my goal. I am wearing a size 9/10 and sometimes 7/8. I am also wearing size medium tops. Who would've believed! My co-workers and clients are in awe and asking telling me how wonderful I look and asking me what diet i am following. I just smile and tell them, " I'm just exercising and eating right." I felt I didn't need to be scrutinized every step of the way, so I decided to keep it under wraps and I'm really glad I did.

    Mixed feelings

MsCarla, I was banded at the end of July 2010 and am down 40 lbs. Mine was elective surgery and was out of pocket. I had to lose 55 lbs. I tried everything and nothing worked! I decided, after long consideration that lapband was my answer. When I spoke to my 10 year old son and asked him his opinion, he told me that he loved me just the way I was, but that if I didn't love myself I needed to go through with this. He is way wiser than his years. Being that i am a full-time single mom and we do everything together I felt the need to explain the procedure to him and the implications. My Mother was a much harder obstacle to surpass. Eventually she came around. Besides my son, parents, and a couple of good friends no one else knew about my lap band. I decided I got enough criticism about my weight gain and any changes I make in my life that it was my choice. Everyone wants to know what "diet" I am on and commenting how good I look. I just smile and tell them lots of exercise and eating right. Mind you, these are a lot of people who use to call me fat and ask me if I was pregnant. She who laughs last has the last alugh. I feel wonderful and am nearing my goal and no one needs to know how I got there. Barbie

    NO Fourth Fill!!!

I'm so glad I don't feel alone anymore! I had my 3rd fill 3 weeks ago. My 1st 2 really didn't phase me, but my 3rd fill was a charm. So far I've lost 8 lbs these last 3 weeks and am soooooo..... restricted!!! Everything I heard I couldn't eat or do is becoming a reality! No liquids before or after eating! No bread! Chew, Chew, Chew! I've gotten stuck quite a few times for not listening 2 instructions! I don't know if I will want 2 get filled in 3 weeks if I stll feel so restricted. My problem is that I paid for my surgery and my first 2 fills were included in the price of my surgery. Now my fills are all worth $200 each. So, I have a feeling I got my money's worth this last fill. Exercising has not been so easy for me either! I know what you mean. Good Luck!

    Making the Choice

I had my surgery 6/28/10 and am 36 lbs down. I paid $11,000 for my surgery out of pocket. It is the best investment i have ever made. I invested in myself. I have never felt or looked better. I am a 41 year old single mother who now has more energy for her son and more confidence to go out and spend time with him and participate in outdoor activities. I was at 190 lbs, so it was considered elective surgery, and not covered by my insurance. I am currently at 154, 19 lbs away from my goal weight of 135 and wearing a size 9/10. I feel great! There is no money better spent than the one you invest in yourself! Good Luck!
  8. Hi Miss Barbie Bakery,

I went to your site because you are very close to my size and would like to watch your progress. It is wonderful to see someone as crazy as I am to get this done at our weight.

    Under 35 BMI and banded

Deb, I was banded June 28, 2010. I am 5'5 and starting weight was 192. I was tired of trying all the diets on the market and my health was not the best. iwas tired all the time and I had no energy to do anything with my 10 year old son. I am a 41 year old full time single mother who also works full time. I also paid out of pocket $11,000. I has been my best investment yet. I am currently weighing 159 lbs and my goal weight is 135.. Slowly but surely i will arrive and stay there. I feel and look healthier. Trust me there is no better investment than in yourself. May God Bless You, and Good Luck!

    What is wrong with society?

Like you, I too decided not to tell anyone besides my parents and best friend. I have yo-yo dieted throughout the years and it took me quite a few months to decide to go through with this surgery. I am a full-time single mom and my main consideration was my 10 year old son. I am all he has and I want to be around for him as long as God permits. I was always athletic and into sports. Now I found myself too tired too participate in many activities with my son and only attend professional sporting events with him. Within 2 weeks, I visited my surgeon and planned my surgery. My surgery was totally out of pocket, so I didn't have to deal with the insurance hassles and delays. Thank God I could afford it. My co-workers and clients comment on how I've lost weight and how great I'm looking. They all want to know how I'm doing it. All I tell them is diet and exercise. I am watching what I eat (they keep an eye on me at work) and I work out on my Elliptical. When I had surgery I was out for about 5 days. I told everyone I was having laproscopic surgery to have ovarian cysts removed. I feel good about the decision of keeping a low key. You are the one who needs to feel good about yourself and your decision. Sure I want to look good, but most importantly, I want to be around time to see my son grow up to be the Attorney he says he's going to be and see my grandchildren be born. Good luck! God Bless!
  11. I was banded Monday, June 28th. For some reason I thought it would be a lot worse than what it was. Piece of cake! Going back to work tomorrow, Friday, July 2nd. Feeling a little sore and bloated, but everything else is fine! So glad I decided to do this! This is the beginning of the rest of my life! Barbie:tt1:
