I decided to do gastric banding after many unsuccessful attempts at weight loss and the realization that diets don't work for most people on a long term basis. Essentially, to keep weight off I would have to substitute an exercise addiction for a food addiction. I didn't think ANY type of addiction is healthy for me in the long run so I opted for the gastric band as a tool to rid myself of the food addition. I have near every obesity co-morbidity you can think of--high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatty liver, sleep apnea, type II diabetes, etc. so even though I am not extremely obese --I am morbidly obese. Better health is on the horizon!
