  1. Thanks Lee! I will still be around, and hopefully I find something out or understand what Dr. Fisher meant a little better.

I just called and requested a second opinion. The lady who answered the phone told me I might have to go to Fremont or SSF. That's fine with me, but she is going to call me back and let me know for sure. Riley, I am so sorry to hear about the pain you are in, hopefully they can get you fixed up soon!
  4. So Dr. Fisher said he "wasn't comfortable doing surgery on me" but I don't understand his reasons. I called and asked for a second opinion. They told me I might have to go to Fremont or SSF. If I can't have the surgery, I will accept that, but I want to understand fully the reasons why.

Thanks Tamara, I am off work tomorrow so I figured I would call and try to get in with someone else, so we will see. I was thinking about telling them I wanted a second opinion or something like that.

Do they let you just switch surgeons? How would I go about doing that? I don't want it to seem like I am shopping around for what I want to hear, I am just really confused and depressed.

He said RNY wasn't an option because I am "small". He didn't say why he felt the band is unsuccessful and didn't say what he meant by people who were sleeved thought it was worse. I left very confused and didn't understand what he meant by any of it, but I was just too dumbfounded to even know what to ask him. My scarring isn't bad at all. I have had my appendix out, a hysterectomy and I had the sigmoid colon removed. It has been several years and I have no complications from any of the surgeries. I don't know what he means to do when I go back, but he said in no uncertain terms that he would not do the surgery. I am to follow the 1200, weigh with my primary every 2 weeks and then come back when I lose the 12. If I stall I have to fax him my food logs, and he will have Robin look at them. And he wants this 12 gone by Oct. 1. Like I said, I am just dumbfounded.

He said the sleeve would be the only one that he would consider and he wasn't comfortable with doing it. He even said he was really surprised that my sister in law had success with the band. And that people who were sleeved usually came back to him and said it was a lot worse than they expected. All in all it was a pretty negative visit.

I just got home from Dr. Fisher's. He says he is not comfortable doing surgery on me because he is afraid of complications from other surgery and because when I had a stomach flu a couple of months ago, I had to have fluids and phenergan. It doesn't make sense to me, but that is what he said. I have to stay on the 1200 cal. and get weighed every two weeks and then go back to him when I have lost 12 lbs, but I don't get why he wants to see me again.

    What to tell your boss??

I just told them I had stomach problems and I had to have surgery. It wasn't a lie, but I didn't have to go over the whole surgery and reasons behind it.
  15. I just wanted to add something else. I grew with both parents being addicts. It REALLY screws with your self worth. Being in any kind of relationship with an addict becomes about them and their addiction. Now that you are in a relationship with someone who isn't an addict, it feels like a great thing. But, the part of you is reaching out to us is screaming "I am worth more than this, I deserve better!" and you do. You just have to convince yourself that you do.
  16. It's hard to walk away from a relationship that ALMOST fits. But if you don't feel free to be yourself and have him see that this is not an easy choice for you, it's not the "easy way out", then he will never get it. He has an idea of what you should be and you are stepping out of that mold. I was in your shoes a long time ago, and I chose to step out and make a life with no compromises and I love my life now. You are the one who has to make the choice on what you feel is the best move for you. Good luck and keep your chin up!

    weird rash...maybe tmi

I had the same problem after I had a surgery a few years ago. They never really figured out what it was, I hate going to the doctor, so I just treat it with Triple Bond Medicated Powder and keep that area REALLY dry. Good luck!
  18. Congrats on your shiny baby girl! They are so fun!

Wow Ash! You are doing fantastic! I am so happy for you!!!
  20. There is a really gentle yoga called "Heavyweight Yoga" by Abby Lentz. It is a really great way to start out, and it is tailored to meet the needs of heavier people. I love mine, always feel great when I am finished. I will continue it as soon as I am released after surgery.

I can't remember whether I gave a definite answer, so I thought I would. I will be at the meeting and at lunch. I will be bringing my daughter (she's 20), she is my biggest supporter and company for the drive there and back.
  24. Congrats! You will do great this time, you are determined and strong!

They told us in orientation that the band is "removable, not reversible"
