  1. Sending healing vibes your way...take care of yourself and let us know how you are.
  2. I had my post op visit this afternoon & doc concurred with what most of you have said. Probably a combination of advancing my diet too soon, eating too fast and not chewing enough. All stuff I should KNOW by heart since I spend all of my free time on this Board! All I can say is it is one thing to know it in your brain and another to actually practice it. I will be more careful going forward as this is not an experience I want to repeat. Oh...he did restart me on Prilosec so that may help too. I am cleared to go back to work, have sex and take a bubble bath!!! Let's see...how do I prioritize my choices?!!! :)
  3. I ate the 100 cal serving which is maybe 1/2 cup....haven't measured it...over about 45 minutes. Good advice as I think I am eating too fast and obviously I have not measured the amount; I was calculating based on calories not quantity. . Duh. This is going to be a learning experience!!

Able to drink too much too soon??

I think you are fine too. I can drink the protein drinks without much difficulty at all but my couple of bites of scrambled eggs this morning let me know that I have a restriction! I was bad in trying the eggs early (shouldn't have until Wednesday) but I wanted a bit of scrambled egg so much. They tasted fabulous but I could only eat about 2 tablespoons total over 30 minutes. I think when we get on "real" foods soon enough we find out what this sleeve is all about!!
  7. Congratulations! It is nice to start feeling a bit more normal isn't it? I will be two weeks out on Tuesday and I tried a couple of bites of scrambled egg this morning. I am technically not supposed to have them until Wednesday but it just sounded SO good. My tiny bites were definitely enough and I am stayed on my creamed soups and protein drinks for the rest of the day. I can't wait to start eating a bit of food too.

    !!! MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT !!!

Whoo Hooo....What a nice Easter gift!! Doing the happy dance with you!! :party4:
  9. Tuesday will be my 2 week anniversary of the surgery and it was one of the best decisions I ever made!! I was scared and even told my hubby the morning of that I couldn't do it and I wanted to cancel! This was after I was at the hospital in pre-op with my IV started and was almost ready to go. The anesthesiologist came in to chat about then and she was so calm and reassuring that I calmed down too. I am SO glad I had this done and I already feel so much better with just the weight I have lost. The future is only going to get better. Take care all of you having surgery this week...I will direct some healing thoughts your way and I look forward to hearing about your experiences afterwards!

    Surgeon Said Skip Mushies?

Thanks for posting the link to the Cornell guidelines Starygirl. I have pretty extensive instructions from my nutritionist but I am going to take a look at these and compare! We are all unique in how quickly we can transition to foods. I tried a bit of oatmeal for Breakfast this morning and that was an adventure. I made 1/2 cup which was a joke of course. I put about 1/4 cup of cooked oatmeal in my bowl with splenda and had a couple of tiny bites. It took me 45 minutes to eat about 1/8 of a cup and I reheated it during that time too. It tasted good though to have something that wasn't a pureed Soup or Protein shake! Can't wait for a scrambled egg!
  11. Finally figured out how change the "start" date on my weight loss ticker today! I restarted the clock from when I started my pre-op diet on 3/30/11. Now the weight loss and the number of days since I started bear some correlation to each other. I started my weight loss ticker before I even had surgery scheduled so it looked out of whack. Doing well so far. All my steri-strips are off and I went for two walks yesterday. I am heading out in a few minutes to get one going for t...

  12. Any chance you will have another procedure at the same time? I had a hiatal hernia repair done at the same time and that gave me a bit of comfort as insurance paid for that portion of the surgery. If I had to be readmitted for dehydration or infection my insurance would have paid. It would NOT pay (they said) if I developed a leak post op. It IS scary but it was a risk I was willing to take. Good luck!

    Hungry, or not...after surgery

Sleeved on the 4/12 and I don't have hunger yet and I was someone who was ravenous a lot before surgery. I have an "empty" feeling when I have not eaten in awhile but it feels like something I could ignore if I wanted. I took prilosec every day for years since I had a hiatal hernia but it was repaired at the same time and I haven't taken anything for acid since the surgery nor have I felt the need to. . Yea! I did wake up this morning craving a turkey club sandwich with crisp bacon and lots of mayo! .

What is your coffee shop order?

SB decaf Americano with non-fat milk & splenda for me! I had coffee on my list after day 3.
  16. You've lost an amazing amount of weight! Congratulations on your hard work!
  17. Well...I had my sleeve on Tuesday (April 12) and I feel like I have had my guts rearranged with a rake! Ok...probably not that bad but I haven't been out of surgery much over 48 hours so I think discomfort is to be expected. I had a hysterectomy and it was a lot worse. I am taking pain meds but not as much as the doc said that I could and I suspect I will stop them by tomorrow. I think I would be in great shape right now except that I had a large hiatal hernia repair done at the same time and that is what hurts. The doc said a big chunk of my stomach had gone through my diaphragm wall and was protuding into my thoracic cavity. One of my incision sites is very high...right at the bra line and that was so they could maneuver the stomach back down in the abdominal cavity. (I guess) and that area is what hurts. The surgeon told me he expected that to be painful because he had to do a lot of work there. I am not hungry at all and today drank some chicken broth for lunch and am sipping Water all day. No nausea at all since the surgery so knock on wood...maybe I will avoid that I really, really like my surgeon a lot. His name is Mark Sherrod with SW Bariatrics and Capital Area Surgeons. I worked with him when I was working at a local hospital and he was calm and competent...a no drama kind of guy. He had very few complications, he performed a lot of emergency and scheduled surgery's...appendectomies, gall bladders, bowel obstructions, etc. That breadth of experience was important to me because I wanted a surgeon who could take me back to the O.R. if I developed a complication and know what to do. I was very touched my an incident in the OR. He told me was going to set up some soothing music (then put on Willy Nelson's Whiskey River if my memory is accurate!) but then he pulled up a stool beside me and took my hand and held it. It was very calming and the last thing I remember thinking in the OR was what an unusual thing it was for a doctor to offer comfort! I expect nurses to do that but not doctors! That is not a slam on doctors...they just generally are too preoccupied with the procedure to take the time. I mentioned the incident to my nurse in my hospital room later and she said, "oh you picked a good surgeon." Trust me...nurses who work in the surgical and post surgical areas KNOW who the good surgeons are and who aren't!! All and all I would do it again in a heartbeat even though you have an uncomfortable couple of days. I look forward to getting back to normal and seeing what eating is going to be like with this little stomach! Oh by the way....my husband now qualifies for saint hood! The hospital room has a fold out bed so the patient can have someone spend the night and he did. He was wonderful and helping me to get up to go to the bathroom, rubbing my shoulders, walking me around the halls. I got quite cranky when I was hurting and waiting on pain meds and he took it all in stride! I got a keeper here!!!
  18. Kids05...So sorry to hear you are still on liquids & that you have a narrowing. . Sounds like a stricture to me but maybe your swelling is just slow to resolve? Anyway, take care of yourself and this too will pass!

    WONDERING???

I feel like 50% of the weight I have lost so far has been from the girls! I am totally ok with the loss though because before I started gaining weight I wasn't big busted and I know under this fat is a small boned person. I will look more proportional and normal (for me) once I get to whatever my new normal is. I am hoping not to get to flabby but I will have to wait and see what I get. Good topic!!
  20. I am a side sleeper too & slept in the guest bedroom the first 4 nights at home so that I could take up the whole bed & prop pillows around me for support without shoving hubby out of the bed! It was uncomfortable the first 3 nights as I couldn't side sleep & could never get comfortable on my back. By night 4 though I could sleep on my side if I tightly spooned a pillow against my abdomen...still doing that actually but each day gets a bit easier. My doc said no sex until 2 weeks.
  21. Congratulations!! I went home a week a ago today after just an overnight stay and every day just gets better!! I was pretty bloated the first 3 days and I walked a LOT in my house just pacing and that seem to help to decompress. Good advice that I received was to walk, sip, repeat!! Good luck and happy to hear it went so well.

    Returning to Work??

I plan to go back 14 days after surgery. Honestly though, I could have easily gone back to work today and today is POD 7. I have a desk job and do nothing strenuous so I wouldn't feel that way if my work was more physical. I actually did more WORK at home today with various projects than I would have if I had gone back to "work"!

    I'm Sleeved and doing great!!!

Congratulations!! :clap2: It is a thrill when you get through the process and realize it wasn't as bad as your fears. The good new is that you can blame all of the "drugs" you had as the reason that you told your doctor how hot he is!!

    Exclusion of Service?

I have worked in insurance pre-authorizations before and I agree that if your employer has chosen to exclude weight loss procedures; you won't get anywhere with an appeal. The reason is your employer does not want any exceptions or they have look at them for everyone. Not encouraging news I know. . My insurance also wouldn't cover so my procedure was done with self pay. It is worth ever penny to me! Ask your surgeon's office if they have any financing options. Good luck!
  25. I am like you Goofyspice in that I will have a day with more energy and flexibility and then fall back the next day! Overall I am improving though and since today it is exactly one week from today that I had the surgery....I feel pretty good! :)
