  1. They may have given you an injection in your abdomen of heparin (an anticoagulant) they did to me and I had a huge bruise too.
  2. I had surgery Monday and went back the following Monday. I have a physical job. On my feet 10 hour shifts bending into cages, lifting dogs etc. I'm an LVT. I felt like I could've gone back at like 5 days post op, but I had already taken off. The Monday I went back we'd had a snow storm over night and I had to dig my car out from like a foot of snow. Probably should not have done that but I was so bored at home.. I told my supervisor I'd possibly take off Monday too, so I knew it'd be ok if I called out, but I couldn't take another day of sitting around
  3. I think the pre op requirements are good for like a year. I believe ater a year you have to redo them. So I guess if you were to have your surgery very shortly after giving birth you'd be good. Not sure if a doc would want you to be a certain amount of time post partum though
  4. You shouldn't need to redo things. My job changed our insurance like 3 months prior to my surgery. I had already done 3 months of the 6 months and all of my requirements. (EGD, chest rad, psych, etc) and had no problem with being approved.
  5. I would not do that. If you don't get ANY nourishment your body might even revolt and lose nothing. Drinking the shakes, you will lose weight. If you have til next Friday, you should lose 9 lb. I was on a liquid diet for one week pre op and the last 2 days were Clear liquids only and in those 7 days I lost 9.8 lb. You have more than a week and to be honest, I weighed less than you so in essence you may be able to lose more than me. Honestly though I don't see why they won't band you at your current weight.
  6. I've just told my coworkers, that I'm watching what I eat and exercising. Which is actually the 100% truth. Since I barely have any fill, nor do I want any.

Someone Please Save Me From Junk Food!

I've been eating chocolate more too lately. I said yesterday for the next 2 days (starting slow, but will try to extend it) no regular chocolate. My trainer told me though if I want chocolate to eat a square of Lindt 85% dark chocolate. She said it will digest slowly and will help you not want more. I did have a piece yesterday, but it was kind of hard to eat (not a huge dark chocolate fan and this was really dark) but it definitely made me not want more. So I'm going to try it today when I'm craving chocolate.

    Fills????

I say if you're losing, let it be. I don't see how you can get all the nutrients you need in 1/4 cup of food.
  9. I didn't have to ask. When I was having my IV put in and given heparin and stuff the nurse put a scopolamine patch behind my ear. I never had one issue with nausea. (Besides day 4 after I took it off, I went out shopping and after a couple hours I started getting a little queasy). The only thing about the patch is that it can mess with your vision. I had been trying to read and my eyes weren't able to focus or something and then I found out the patch has that as a side effect, I had forgot I even had it on, once I took it off all was well with my vision.
  10. I take NSAIDs whenever I need to. My surgeon said that rule is mainly for bypass patients.

    Under The Gown Jitters!

You won't be wearing anything under the gown. The OR is a sterile area and your undergarments are not. Don't worry I am a very modest person too. I even never went to the gyno prior to last year when I was 28 because I was mortified to be fully examined. Lucky for me they did not remove my gown prior to me being anesthetized, so I was unaware of it. I was even to groggy to say anything post op when they lifted my gown a couple times to check my incisions.
  12. I too am addicted to the scale. I would weigh everyday, mostly many times per day. Sometimes I would get frustrated and force myself to stay off for a few days. It would be hard, but I'd do it. I started with a personal trainer today. Our goal is to decrease body fat. She checked it today and will check it again in 5 weeks. She told me, no stepping on the scale for 5 weeks. Tonight I put my scale in the closet. This is going to be very hard, but I'm going to do it. She said seeing the number on the scale and if you get discouraged, can mess with your hormones and stop weight loss. I'm going to do my best to stay off, so not to get frustrated.
  13. It may be beneficial for you to find out prior. I've heard of self pay people having insurance covering the hernial and then you just tack on the band. Meaning less cost to you.

    Advice, Long Tom. Maybe Tmi

Thankfully day 10 was the last day and it stopped. Hopefully it won't happen again. Thanks
  15. I've now had my period for 10 days. It is kind of light, but still I'm passing clots. I'm kind of getting a little worried. I usually go for 4-5 days. Also even the beginning of this period was weird, usually I start cramping a number of days prior, and get cramps on the day I start. This time. No cramps prior and none on the day of. I don't completely keep track, but it just showed up, and thinking back, it was on time. But I'm concerned I'm still bleeding. I was going to give it a couple more days before I call my gyno. But I was wondering if anyone had any advice. With all my weight loss so far, my period has always been consistent, so I'm unsure what changed, and I haven't lost a lot of weight recently. I did have a big drop last week (3.8lb), but over the last 5 months or so, I've only lost 15lb. Any advice is welcomed. TIA

How Long Was Your Hospital Stay?

I went home the same day. My doc had told me the only reason he would keep me overnight is If the had to convert to an open procedure.

    Advice, Long Tom. Maybe Tmi

I didn't think for a second it was band related. Just curious if anyone else had had a similar issue.
  18. I drink sometimes 2 gallons of Water a day. Unless you drink it all at once, I don't think there's a problem. IMO, I think your problem is that you're eating under 1000 calories per day. First off you're a male, so I've seen the recommendations for men to not eat under 1500 calories per day. You are also working out, so you need more. Honestly I think if you start eating more the scale would start moving. I'd be totally flamed if I said how much I ate per day. So really try upping your calories. Oh and if the scale goes up for a couple weeks, don't automatically drop your calories, sometimes it takes a little time.
  19. I really hope you are not serious! Go get some taken out now! is 40 lbs worth suffering for? Sure you'll be thin, but in essence you'll still be fat because by not eating most of what you'll be losing is muscle mass, so you'll be what's called "skinny fat". Skinny, but your Body Fat percentage is still quite high. Seriously...
  20. For as long as I can remember I have had very painful cramps the first day of my period, now for the last 5-6 months I've been getting extremely nauseas as well. Well it is affecting my life, last month I had to leave work because I felt like I was going to vomit. I am finally going to be going to the gynocologist (yes, I've never been) and get some birth control (I've heard it can lesson cramps and such) and make sure nothing is wrong since I'm getting nauseas too. My question is, I've heard some can make you gain weight, obviously I don't want this side effect. Which ones don't? Also, I'd probably elect for a type that you dont have to take everyday. I have no intentions of ever having a child. I'd have a hysterectomy if I could...lol.
  21. Just jump back in! In the past it would, for me, be, I messed up, ate something I shouldn't have, the day is ruined mine as well finish the day off eating like crap and start tomorrow. Now it's, ok you had a treat, back to the program. Gotta get your mind around that. One bad meal is NOT going to ruin all your progress. You may initially see the scale go up a little, but it won't be a true gain. As for the alcohol, I hate the taste, so I can't help you on that, sorry.

    New And Concerned

It is normal not to lose in the beginning. I lost nothing weeks 2-5 post op. give it some time and the scale will move. Please do not eat only 500-600 calories. That is not enough for your body to function on, especially if working out.
  23. I believe now that you have to eat to lose. With working out that much and only 1000 calories, your body needs more fuel. Sorry, but she is most definitely NOT gaining muscle with only eating 1000 calories, and especially only doing cardio.

To true! I've wanted to post something like this for the longest time. If the posts are all in italics or script, I just skip them. It hurts to try to read, and if they're in a color it makes it even worse.
  25. I used the unjury shakes, chocolate splendor and vanilla. I liked them a lot, and still have some. But now I use Premeir Protein from costco. They are RTD, I have one every morning because I feel sick if I eat before my workout. I tried a couple different, so called "tasteless" protein powders for my Clear liquids, and they all made me want to vomit. I could not stomach any clear Proteins. The only protein I had during my 2 day pre op clear, and the 7 day post op clear phase, was the Unjury chicken soup flavor.
