  1. I have not had my surgery yet, but I am going to ask my Dr. opinion.I am a licensed vet tech (Basically a nurse for animals) and at times it can get very physically. I mean usually I am not the one restraining the animals, but I do occasionally. I mean I can tell them I can't lift the dogs or restrain the wild ones for a little bit. But I am on my feet for 10 or more hours per day. So I think I would aim for a week, but like I said, I will ask my dr's opinion

    Support Group

I have to attend 3 support group meetings required by my surgeon. I was supposed to go to one last Saturday, but after getting home late from work the night before and oversleeping, I stupidly forgot and when I remember I was so annoyed with myself, because the next one was on Tuesday when I had to work and they are only held every 2 weeks, so I will be going next Saturday. But I am hoping I get some good tips from it.

I did JC for 3 years and lost 70 lbs. Then I got bored and decided to take a break for a week, about 5 months later, I never went back and gained about 55 lbs back. All that work for basically nothing. I then joined WW, I lost 40 lb in 7 months, then the holidays came and I slipped, I did start going back to WW, but then decided to also pursue the lap band. I may try to continue the points system of WW post band, but try also the low carb, high protein approached that my surgeon reccommends.
  4. I am not sure if it is true or not, but I certainly hope it isn't. My 6 months monitored weight loss was accepted with when I did WW last year and in 6 months I lost around 30 lbs, so that averages 5 lbs/month. SO I hope it is not true. The problem with me is, I can lose weight with dieting (slowly but I can), but I get bored and it comes right back, so I need to feel I can't eat as much.
  5. If that is true, I am 5'2" or a little shy of, that would make my goal weight of 110 lbs. I frankly do not want to be that skinny. I do not like the look of seeing bone and I feel that is what I would be at that point.
  6. I had my pulmonary appt today. And he reccommended I go for a sleep study, I was really hoping I would not have to do one. I have a feeling I will have trouble sleeping there. He said my pharynx seemed narrow, so he was a little concerned. Also that if I did have sleep apnea it probably is very mild. Also went for a chest x-ray after the appointment, so I go that done too. In an hour I have my cardiac consult. I am getting there slowly. I am kind of annoyed at myself, I forgot to go to the support meeting last Saturday and the next one was on Tuesday and I had to work, which means the next time they have it is in 2 weeks and I will probably go to the one on Saturday and Tuesday, because I have to go to three of them.
  7. I just found out today that my company is going to be switching insurance carriers. It probably will happen before I get my surgery. Do you know will there be any problems with getting my surgery if I did all the pre op stuff under my prior insurance?
  8. I have not told anyone. I may tell my supervisor when it is time to give in my time off request. When I start really losing weight I may tell coworkers, but for the time being, the only person that knows I am doing anything is my mother.
  9. This is hard for me as well, but so far I have been doing pretty well. Though, I too manage to get through my meal without drinking, but right after I want to drink, but like I said I have been doing fairly decent. This rule has actually decreased my soda intake as I used to drink soda with my meal and water the rest of the day. Now I have had the same 2 liter in my fridge for 2 weeks and that is astonishing for me. (probably flat by now..LOL)
  10. I m pre band and my Dr. is telling me to eat low carb. I am finding it hard to do, just because I think I ned more meal ideas, or else I am going to be eating the same thing day after day. I do not eat fish of any sort, so that narrows my Protein choices down a bit. I did make this delicious chicken and veggie stirfry the other day. Also any ideas for low carb Snacks? I have been eating a Fiber one bar, but the carbs is like 25 g or something. But I feel I need to have that extra fiber due to my bowel habits. (I recently started taking fiber supplements as well, sorry if TMI)

    Why are we doing this?

Thanks, I am a little worried, but not overly so. I plan to have a fantastic time on the trip. Hanging with friends and going to Universal Studios Hollywood.

    Why are we doing this?

I want to be the me I was in the past, active, and free. Like others I am sick of the way that I look. I have very little confidence and my self esteem is in the toilet, I have hardly any friends and feel depressed a lot due to these things. Honestly I am not entirely sure being thinner will help my social life and confidence, but it sure as hell isn't going to hurt. I am going to California at the end of August and as excited as I am about the trip, I am dreading the plane ride over. I know my butt does not fit in the seat (as I flew last year and my butt was a little smaller). I am trying to plan my flight with the least amount of people on it so I won't have anyone sitting next to me so I can leave the armrest up. Now if that doesn't make me totally depressed and upset with myself, yeah.
  13. Does anyone know if you can actually gain weight when you start increasing your cardio activity. Last week I really amped up my exercise, went from basically nothing one week to 2 times at the gym the following week, then the week after went to the gym 4 times, walked the dogs a bit and started back on Wii fit. My weight is up a couple pounds and I am getting really upset by it and I do WW and I have been staying within my points, so I know I am not overeating. I also thought maybe water retention, from working out and it being so hot out recently so I upped my water intake, but nothing. The only otpions I see is wait it out and see what happens or actually eat some more, I have heard that you may need to eat more points when you work out. What do you guys think? I need advice and opinions on this. TIA
  14. I am hoping that is all it is. I am only doing cardio, no weights, so I should not be building any muscle. Thank you
  15. That sounds like a good idea, I have never tried the greek yougurt though/ Maybe I should try to drink a protein shake?
  16. for my pre op, I had/have to One original seminar - done consult - done psych eval - done GI consult with endo. Made first appt, will make endo appt after that pulmonary consult nutrition - who requires 3 consults, 2 before, 1 after Cardiac consult 3 required support meetings Oh and I need bloodwork, chest rads, abdominal ultrasound, venous ultrasound, aand a consult with the coordinator at the hospital where I will have my sx.
  17. Well yesterday I drank about about 20 cups. Usually I drink about anywhere from 12-16 cups, or more. I've recently tried to up my protein intake, not sure on the grams, but I had about 4 ox chicken (with vegetables) for lunch yesterday and about 5 oz of lean hamburger for dinner on a sandwich thin and veggies, plus 1/2 cup egg beaters for breakfast. I need more high protein meal ideas. I was told to try to decrease the carbs, but I am finding it hard to do it.
  18. Well I haven't started it, but I to plan to work through my liquid phase. Luckily I only have to do one week of liquids. But I have a feeling it is going to be so hard not to be able to eat anything.
  19. Curious about this letter. Prior to 2 weeks ago, I hadn't been to a Dr. in like 4 years. So the PCP I went to had never met me prior to seeing me 2 weeks ago. How would they write the letter, since they really do not know much about me besides what I told her. I mean I told her how long I'd been overweight and stuff.
  20. I actually had my psych eval as well today. Did not go as bad as I thought. Asked a bunch of questions and then filled out a a few sheets of how I've been feeling. My guy too said it was just to weed out people who are severely depressed and who they don't feel would be able to cope with the surgery. He did not give me any results, but said he'd mail them to me, my PCP and surgeon. About your nutrition appointment, that is totally unprofessional. They should have told you prior to your appointment that one would not be there. My insurance does not cover the nutritionist as well and when I called up they said they require 3 appoiuntments, 2 before surgery and one after. They said they are usually $164 each, but they bundle the 3 appointments together and are $164 total. So that is doable.
  21. My surgeon did not try to pressure me either way, he just asked which one I wanted. I agree with the others when they say you should see another surgeon. I have thought long and hard about what I wanted. In the beginning I was dead set on the bypass, a woman I was working with had had it. But after thinking a lot about it, I did not like the dumping syndrome, and other side effects of it. I work in the veterinary field and while we deal with animals, I know effects of surgery and I feel the risks of cutting your intestines and suturing them to your stomach well things can break down. I just feel it is to risky and while I have a minimum of 115# to lose right now and I know the band will take longer then I would really like. I know it will be better for me in the long run.
  22. Nope, not on the pre op diet yet. For the pre op my dr. only requires a week of liquids.
  23. So at my initial consult my Dr. told me to start eating low carb and high Protein, and I went home and realized the food I have has quite a bit of carbs in it. Any ideas on things to eat? Except for fish I do not eat it. Thanks. Also my Dr. told me to eat 3 meals only a day. I have been doing WW and do eat Snacks. I can lose weight the way I have been eating, I just get bored and go back to old habits. Has anyone not done as their Dr. recommended and still been ok?
  24. I really hope it does. I too have been trying to eat slower and chew more as my doctor reccomended. But like the OP I tend to eat fast and not chew well. I have swallowed large bites and been like if I do this after surgery it is bound to get stuck like I have read other post about. I am really trying though.

    Any LI Bandsters?

Hi, I am on LI too, in Islip (just moved 3 months ago from Roslyn Heights, finally got my own place). I am using Dr. Cussati. Went for my first consult on Tuesday. Seems really nice. Today I scheduled my Psych eval, nutrition consults, and Cardio exam. Going to call up and make an appointment for my upper endo tomorrow, and perhaps the pulmonary consult. Anyone know if it just says Pulmonary disease, that would be the same thing as pulmonologist I assume, since that is all I saw when searching through ones who are on my plan. I am kind of weary about all these appointments as I do not like going to Dr.s but I know it is for the best. Luckily, since I did weight watchers last year my 6 month monitored weight loss is done, so I just have to do the pre op tests and get approved. I really hope I can get it all done by next month. I am going away at the end of August and I can have one last hurrah and hopefully get surgery in September. I am so ready to put my weight behind me. itsallgood- I too have Empire Blue cross blue shield. I hope they are good about approving the surgery.
