Does anyone know if I can eat egg drop soup on my pre op diet? It says I can have cream soups and I think they are about the same consistency, and the eggs are not really like food. I need to have something with a little more sustonence

I start the PreOp diet today!
Jess55 replied to Swan56's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know about the exercise. I haven't been to the gym since I started the pre op diet, I almost went to day, but I was to tired. Even so since the diet started I have lost 6.6 lbs. I know a lot is water, but is that even healthy to lose that much. At this rate by the end of the week, I'll have lost like 15 lbs, but I guess it probably slows down, I assume -
I start the PreOp diet today!
Jess55 replied to Swan56's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is my third day, and seemed to be harder today. I am hungry right now. I was at my bowling league and someone on another team was eating fries and ketchup, it smelled so good, but I held my ground. I have had a string cheese, but nothing else. I am dreading the last 2 days on Clear liquids... I see some of you are using the tickers starting with your pre op diet? I guess I should start mine now, huh? -
The unjury chicken broth isn't bad. I have a feeling during my clear liquid phase I am going to be living on it. It has the Protein and I have tried the Isopure Protein drinks and I cannot drink it, 1 sip makes me want to puke, so in order to get my protein requirement that is what I am going to have to do. As for the clear liquid phase after surgery, I have not had surgery yet, will on the 20th, my nutritionist said I could start full liquids after 5 days if I feel up to it, but if I do that I still have to do it for 9 days instead of 7. Because I can't start mushies til 2 weeks after surgery. Then it is 1 week of blenderized/puree consistancy, then 1 week of chopped/ground consistancy. Then solid foods.

I ordered the opurity band optimized vitamins from Unjury. I tried one yesterday and it tasted nasty, so I don't think I am going to use them. I prbably will go back to my adult gummy vitamins.

I have been constipated for many years, not sure why. I started with the vitafusion fiber gummies, and still had problems, so when I went to the gastroenterologist consult I told her and she reccomended miralax (well she gave me the perscription equivelent). But I have been taking it for like 6 months and it really helps. I take it 5 days a week, I find if I take it every day as recommneded it doesn't work so well. I am kind of hoping maybe the constipation has to do with my weight and once I lose it, I won't need it as much, but that is just hope.

My doctor said slipping and erosion are actually rare. My surgery is on the 20th, so I am only 5 days away. I have been thinking, can I actually do this? What am I doing? Is this really what I want? I'm never going to be able to eat like I used to. Then I think, I am very depressed how I am now, have very few friends, and I even get depressed looking on facebook seeing people going out together and I think, what about me? Now, I know my losing weight may not help this, but it is worth a try. There are so many things I want to do, but my confidence is so low right now. I want to take some form of martial arts, but I feel I am to fat right now. So just think about the positive things that can come out of this and not the negative. Am I worried about the complications that can happen, sure, but I try to keep that in the back of my head and not think about it. One huge thing I am looking forward to is not feeling squished next time I fly!

I'm going for my pre op tests tomorrow. I was told it would take 1.5 hours. What kind of tests are they? After the appointment I have to schedule an appointment with my pcp to het final clearance. I wish surgery were sooner, the sooner the surgery the sooner I can eat real food, well no mushies for 2.5 weeks. Only second day of shakes and I am craving real food
-
I'm sorry mefirst, I am talking about the pre op tests right before surgery not the ones you need in order to get approved
-
So I have an appointment tomorrow for my pre op tests. They told me no need to fast, then they said I would be there for 1.5 hours! That kind of shocked me, what kind of testst are they going to do? I assume blood and I saw someone say they had a swab to test for MRSA, but what else can take 1.5 hours?

I'm on day 2, only allowed shakes, ice cream (which I think is weird, but it says it is allowed), SF Jello, SF popsicles, yogurt. Yesterday I did ok, I was at work most of the day. Today I am home so not as busy and I am a bit more hungry, but I am managing. I was in shock this morning, I had lost 4 lbs from when I weighed yesterday morning. I know most of it is Water weight and that won't happen everyday, but I was like OMG, and I am ecstatic. I know it is not about weight loss, but about your liver, but the weight loss helps me feel good about it.

Overnight in Hospital?
Jess55 replied to Pamalamadingdong's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr. said I woud only have to spend the night, if they have to convert to an open procedure. WHich I totally hope not, I don't want that kind of recovery, I know it is pretty rare that they do though. -
December Bandsters (Early Xmas present)
Jess55 replied to chocolatecity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my pre op diet today. I did mostly well, stayed away from the cookies that were out at work, I drank my shakes and had chobani yogurt. We had a meeting and they had pizza and I so wanted it, but I kept my will power and stayed away. Unfo\rtunately the meeting lasted way longer than I expected 2.5 hours and I gave in to a small brownie that was right in front of me. I was annoyed, but I don't think it will be that bad, it is only day one. Worried about tomorrw and wednesday because I am home and hopefully won't think about eating that much, but I am worried. -
I got a call today from the pre op office about scheduling my pre op tests, unfortunately I was at work and though I had my phone on me I could not answer it due to being in the middle of something. When I was done I had to go into a meeting that lasted a2.5 hours and by the time I got out, it was 7:30, so I knew they would not be there. So I will be calling first thing in the morning to make an appointment, and hopefully I can do it tomorrow or wednesday because I am off and I still have to go to my PCP for a medical clearance.

1st day of a 10 day pre-op
Jess55 replied to beckyrlnd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start my pre op diet tomorrow. I have to work and I am kind of nervous that I am going to be starving. My diet is liquids only for the first 5 days then 2 days of clear liquids. I was not told I can only have a certain amount, so I plan to have a shake for breakfast, a mid morning snack of one of those chobani yogurts, which I actually don't really like (I am going to try to add a little splenda to it), a shake for lunch, and see if I can then hold out 'til dinner when I will have another shake, but I may bring another drink with me just in case. I work 10 hour shifts so I am there a while. I bought some suger free jello, because I am allowed that, but I have never been to fond of jello, but I have not had it in a long time, so I may try again -
So, I was just curious on what other people do. When I went for my last appointment for the six month weight loss thing. My Dr. had reiterated his rules for banding (what to do post op). Two of those things were, 3 meals only, no Snacks, and no carbs, (pasta, rice, potato, etc). When I went for one of my dietition appointments, she said I could have some carbs if I was still hungry. I see plenty of posts on here where people eat small snacks inbetween, and eat carbs. I will try doing what he said at first, but not sure if I can do the no carbs, or no snacks. I mean I plan to do the calorie thing and stay under a certain amount (I will see what works). One time when I was on weight watchers, I tried eating fewer points than was reccomended and my weight stalled, I upped the calories (points) and I started losing again, so possibly if I go under a certain calorie amount consistantly I don't lose. So I do not see how I can get enough calories in with only eating 3 meals and only max of one cup at a time. Anyone post op have opinions on this? My surgery dat is on the 20th, so I have a little time to think about how to eat, what with the liquid phase and all the other phases before I can eat real food.

Following Dr.'s reccomendations?
Jess55 replied to Jess55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK, that makes more sense. I am perfectly content with having a piece of string cheese or carrots and hummous or something like that. I did not intend to go out for ice cream or anything as a snack. As for gotmyeyeontheprize, no red meat would be really hard for me. I do not eat fish, so that leaves about chicken and as much as I like chicken I could not eat that for every meal. And I don't eat tofu or anything. I only buy 7% fat meat anyways. -
I tried one flavor of the Isopure liquid drink so far and I could not drink it, it tasted nasty. I have bought a coupe other flavors to try, but am not holding out hope. I wanted to know if there were any other liquid proteins for when I can only drink liquids? Or does the unflavored protein powder absorb and I cn dissolve it into my crystal light or something? ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks

How long must I be on liquids??????
Jess55 replied to rktaurus71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr. did not say, but my nutritionist gave me those post op guide for eating, and it said clear liquids one week, but she told me if I felt I was ready I could start full liquids after 5 days. That is what I was told. Every doctor is different it seems. -
December Bandsters (Early Xmas present)
Jess55 replied to chocolatecity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is my last day before my pre op diet starts, kind of sad, I am giving up my old way of life, but on to bigger (smaller) and better things. Tomorrow starts the beginning of the new life. I have been really bad though, since my last appointment, I have been kind of eating the things I am going to miss, so I am up like 3 lbs from my last appointment. I am really embarrassed by this. Hopefully my Dr. will never know though and they will come off in the pre op diet and a few more. Even though the diet is only a week, I should still lose some, right. Hopefully it is not like the time I tried eating only a little bit to lose weight and my weight stalled. I seem to not be able to eat to few calories and lose weight, so kind of worried about that. One question, during my last appointment my Dr. reminded me, he only wants me eating 3 meals and no Snacks. Personally I don't see how I can get enough calories that way and still lose weight, I mean obviously I will try it, and see if I can do it. But do you think anyone has ever deviated from their Dr.'s reccomendations and had a snack in their. Because one contridictory thing I was told the dietition told me have Protein, veggies, then if your still hungry you can have a small amount of carbs, but my Dr. said no carbs (not sure I can do that). I see people in the post op said they have snacks during the day and carbs, so obviously it works with those things. Maybe I will post this in the post op forum. -
Congrats Amber, I too and having my surgery the 20th. I do have a pre op diet, but only one week, and I am kind of worried I am going to be starving, oh well, it is worth it. They did not tell me what time my surgery is, only that I will get a call to do the pre op tests and then I have to have an appointment with my PCP to have a medical clearance. I have never had surgery either, have had some wisdom teeth out, but only with novacaine. So I am a little nervous, but I am a vet tech (an animal nurse) so I have seen thousands of animals have surgery and 99% of the time everything goes well.I am so excited to start 2011 off on a positive note and hopefully be maybe at least just overweight (not morbidly obese) by the time I am a bridesmaid for my sister in November. My wish also is to lose enough weight where I can feel confident and join a martial art, maybe Taekwondo. So best of luck to you!

December Bandsters (Early Xmas present)
Jess55 replied to chocolatecity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I changed the date to the 20th, I can't wait! My Dr. only requires a week for the pre op diet, so I will start on the 13th. Good timing too, My job has a holiday party on the 12th, so I will have my last meal there, and then, onto shakes Monday morning. -

OMG, yay! I was approved, and I got a date! They only had the 20th and the 29th open. Unfortunately I don't think I would be able to get off from work in 11 days notice, they actually want 4 weeks, but I assume surgery will be different, so I chose the 29th. Although, I may talk to my supervisor today and see if I can do the 20th. I am so happy!! I can't wait, I am going to start 2011 on a whole new leaf. Goodbye old me! -

I've tried the chocolate unjury ad with milk, it tastes like chocolate milk, I did not taste any Protein flavor, which is excellent, so that is probably the one I will be drinking the most of. I plan on trying to drink the vanilla one for luch today (and see if I am able to handle it, and not having lunch so I can know what to expect on the pre op diet) I am going to have to get some SF kool aid and try that with the isopure, because I can't stand the isopure, so the clear liquid part is looking to be a real challange. Is it the powder or the already liquid kool aid that we should try?
