    Protein powder

I tried the Bariatric Eating one as recommended by people on here, and I totally disagree that it has no taste, I tried mixig it in my crystal light and I wanted to vomit. I, unfortunately have yet to find a Protein powder that is tasteless. So I am not getting my correct amount of protein which I really don't know what to do. If it makes me want to vomit, I do not know what else to do. Though to you it may be ok, because it was recommended by a bunch of people
  2. I am 4 days post op and at times I feel like I have a little energy other times I have none, some of may have to do with boredom. But really I think it is the fact I am getting less than 200 cal/ day. Tomorrow I am going to try a protein shake and hope that gives me more energy. I go back to work on Monday and am hoping I can make it through the day.
  3. I am 4 days post op (banded on the 20th). Is it really bad at this stage on Clear liquids only to not be getting your Protein in? I am only getting like maybe 20 g per day. Every liquid Protein I have tried makes me want to vomit. I tried the unjury unflavored and it too makes me want to vomit. It was suggested the baratric eating unflavored one does not have any taste, but uh yeah it does and it is nasty. I have been trying to have the unjury chicken broth at least once a day, but I either am not hungry or don't want to eat. I am having like 1/2 a serving right now, but I really don't want it. Tomorrow I can try to switch to Protein shakes and I will be getting a lot more protein, as long as I can handle them ok, so getting it now is not going to be detrimental, right? Also I keep having an uncomforatble feeling in my throat at the back of it sometimes and sometimes like mid sternum, and it is not usually associated with eating (well drinking) something. Has anyone else had this? I did have a hiatal hernia repair too, not sure if it has to do with this. Also gas pain, how long does it usually last, I have been taking the gas x, and it seems to have helped, I did not really notice it the first couple days, but last night and today my left shoulder has been sore, I tired a heating pad last night and it helped a little for the time being. I have been passing gas, which made me think I was getting rid of all the gas. I may go to the mall today just to walk, though it is going to be crazy crowded. So on day 4 post op, I seem to be down another 6 lbs, which I am happy about. Actually I was happy pre surgery too, because the pre op diet got me to a number on the scale that I have not seen in probably 10 years. The thing that sucks is when I was a bit heavier than this I was wearing a smaller size, I had gained weight back and when I did it like all went to my butt and it does not seem to want to leave. Hopefully it will soon. I think I am going to go get a couple pairs of new scrubs today in the next size down and wait for the day when my ass will fit in them. Sorry for going off on another topic, but if you can answer my questions, Thanks.
  4. Well I can't start the shakes 'til tomorrow at the earliest. The nutritionist said if I was doing ok with the liquids at 5 days I could go to full liquids. So I am going by that. I already have shakes ready to go. Got some Unjury ones and A Vitamin Shop one that is pretty good, I also have a bunch of EAS lite cookies and cream pre made ones in the fridge. Wow, so the gas pains could last for 2 weeks or more, that sucks.
  5. I will wait til at least my recheck to talk with the dr. Thank you. I was just wondering because in the veterinary field we tell clients for their pets no running jumping playing for like 6-8 week. I was just hoping it wasn't that long. Now my shoulder was bothering me before I went to sleep and now here I woke up at 2 with it really bothering me and so I have a heating pad on it trying to fall back asleep. I was hoping the gas was all gone, but I guess not

    TMI Mirilax is.....

Well if you just took it it won't produce a bm that minute, I think the package said the first one can take up to 72 hours
  7. I don't have an incision in my belly button. I wonder if it is because mine is a deep inniy. All my incisions are straight across my abdomen like 2 inches above my belly button and then there is one higher up, I'm guessing for the hiatal hernia I had repaired
  8. Honestly I am awful with my scale, I step on it like everytime I go into the bathroom (almost). But I have made a commitment to myself, I will only care about the number once a week. I was banded on Monday, so that is going to be my weigh in day. I work in the morning too, so when I wake up I will go into the bathroom and weigh myself and that will be the number I log. I know people say weighing yourself every day is bad, but I kind of feel it helps keep me on track. If I see the number is a little up, I may try to push a little more and do a little extra at the gym or something. Thoug I haven't been to the gym in 1.5 weeks, I did not have to energy on my pre op diet and now I am just 3 days post op, and I am not even going to think about going until my post op appointment
  9. I was out for the first time today since I got banded on Monday. Went to get some christmas presents and I was walking around Kohls for like 1.5 hours and walked across the parking lot twice to drop off my car for an oil change. After the 2 hours out, I felt pretty crappy, started feeling a little nauseus at one point. Probably is because I tried having like 1/2 a cup of unjury chicken flavored broth this morning and only could take like 1/2 of that. and only had like 1/2 a glass to drink this morning too. I am finding it really hard to get any calories in being on clear liquids only. Probably only had like 200 calories yesterday, if that. Yesterday I had a sf jello cup and it took so long to eat it. (plus the fact tht I don't really like jello, but I felt I needed to get something that had a little shape into me. I mean I am not getting nearly even close to the amount of protein I should. Is this normal for being on clear liquids? I am trying at least to drink my crystal light to stay hydrated, but I feel that I am not even getting enough.
  10. Yeah I pulled it off yesterday, this morning my vision is a lot better. Still may be a tiny bit off but not nearly as much as it was
  11. Every dr is different so you should follow your DR. advice. Mine said 2nd week was just thicker liquids like shakes and yogurt etc

    Recommittig for 2011

Well I got my band on Monday, and so I keep saying 2011 is going to be my year, a year where things get a lot better, where I lose weight and my self esteem and confidence goes up
  13. I had mine on the 20th too. Felling better each day. My left shoulder does hurt a little. But mainly it is the incisions that hurt mostly when I amgetting up from a sitting/ lying down position. I need to go out and get my family gifts and mycar oil changed, not sure if I want to do it today or give one more day before I brave the stores since I am still uncomfortable. Unfortunately I have not been getting my Protein since surgery. I figure that will get better when I can start full liquids and the earliest I can do that is Saturday.
  14. I'm wondering if anyone had trouble with their vision after survey. I wear glasses but since yesterday I seem to bee having difficulties seeing like I did before. I have needed to go to the ophthomologidt and get a new perscroptoon. Anyone else have any vision problems

    in hospital

I am not sure how much fluids I reeceived during my stay, but I know when I was wanting to leave, they had me urinated first and I really did not have to go, and I sat for a number of minutes just trying to will myself to go and then only had a little, but they let me go. Off topic for a minute because I just thought of this. They put a anti nauseas patch behind my ear prior to surgery, and I just remembered it was there. Anyone know how long I am supposed to keep it on, I never asked.
  17. I was surprised when I had my surgery yesterday, that I did not get weighed. I did get weighed at the pre op appointment, so I assumed they went with that weight. The pre op appointment was on Wednesday and surgery was Monday, and I know I weighed a few pounds less on surgery date.
  18. Just wanted to say hi! I was banded yesterday and things went well. I also apparently had a hiatal hernia repair (did not even know I had one). But I am doing well, no gas pains, just some pain at the incision sites. I can only have clear liquids (at least til Saturday, it is supposed to be a week, but my nutritionist said, if I feel ok at 5 days I could start full liquids.) I will see how it goes. Yesterday all I had was a little broth, and some SF popsicles, because I figures it would help my throat, and and of course waters. I am not hungry yet, but maybe today I will try a little of the unjury chicken soup flavor, so I can at least get a little protein in.

    December 20th!!

My surgery went well. Not really having any gas pains, I think I am just sore at the incision sites. I usally sleep on my left side /stomach to sleep, and I was nervous because people said they had trouble laying on their left side, I actually felt most comfortable sleeping on my left side. My throat is sore from being intubated and I think I hve a bit of laryngitis from it, I sound really hoarse. Also, my mom said the doctor told her I had a hiatal hernia repair too. I did not even know I had one. I did not get to ask, because I never saw my doctor when I woke up. But I feel ok, like I said still a bit sore, but nothing untolerable, I did take a little of the lortab this am, but otherwise doing ok.

    December 20th!!

Today is the day! I have mixed feelings, I started wondering if I was doing the right thing last night, am I going to be able to still eat the things I love (in smaller portions) I know some peopl are never able to eat certain things again. Well I have to be at the hospital at 8am, and my mother is coming at 7:30 am to pick me up, so I have 30 min left to change my mind. I have to be doing to right thing, I just kind of hate myself that I could not do it on my own. . GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU DECEMBER 20TH BANDSTERS!!

    December 20th!!

Becky you did not have to go to no Protein at all. I had bought the unjury protein chicken flavored broth and that was allowed for my Clear liquids it has 21 grams of protein and does not taste bad. I will try and order that Protein powder from Bariatric Eating. I hasd bought 2 containers of unflavored protein from unjury, but originally tried the sample packet and did not like it, so those containers are still sealed, I wonder if I can return them? Just want to make surer, I did not see a unflavored powder that said Be pure, is this the one? My link

    December 20th!!

I started my clear liquids today, and I got to work a little while ago and it is horrible, I have no energy. Plus there are Cookies and chocolate covered pretzels on the counter taunting me. I just keep telling myself it won't be forever that I won't be able to have one. Also been thinking about the post op diet and how I am going to get the Protein in, I can't use the unflavored powder, it is nasty and the clear liquid Protein drinks are nasty too. I did find one that is a little tolerable but I've only had a sip so far, the muscle milk h2o, but it is only 10 grams for 16 oz, so I'd have to drink a ton of it. This stuff along with hunger is putting me in a bad mood

Went to my primary today for medical clearance. All went well. I got a call a little while ago from the hospital. I have to be there at 8am, not sure what time the actual surgery is.

    pain and uncomfortable

Thanks I did not even think to check. 160 mg is 5 mls. Anyways I am going to see if I can exchange it for the adult. I don't want to have to drink that much of it. Unfortunately I threw out the receipt, hopefully they will let me, otherwise, I guess I will just buy the adult anyways.

    pain and uncomfortable

Curious, I will be banded monday. I had seen a lot of people recommend the children's liquid tylenol post op. Do you just double the dose? I figure the children's dose is going to be too low. I bought the cherry flavor, and hope it tstses ok, I have problems taking liquid meds if they taste nasty. I remember one time I tried to take liquid day quil and ended up spitting it across the room because I could not swallow it due to the taste. So I am concerned if they are to give me liquid pain meds to go home with if I will be able to swallow them. I had also seen that most people got a script to fill prior to surgery, I did not.
