Southern Leo - I had been taking gummy vitamins, fiber supplements, and the viactiv type calcium prior to surgery. So I had asked my surgeon prior to surgery when I could start them again and he said like 5 days, so I waited the 5 days after surgery.

I did not even see the surgeon, I saw the PA for my post op. Basically she just asked how I was doing and if any problems. She did not even look at my incisions which surprised me. I mean if I did not work in the medical field and know what to look for my I mean my incisions could be infected for all they know.

Can someone explain the Week 3 plateau?

I am 11 days post op an stalled since Monday, I'd be thrilled if I'd lost 2.5 lbs. -
4 days post op and STARVING!
Jess55 replied to mattie7632's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was at work yesterday, and I am 11 days post op now, and I was starving (yeah I was not this hungry on the pre op diet). Someone brought in chips and sour patch kids and I wanted to run over there and devour it all, but I held my ground. Surprisingly even when one of the Vets, ( only a few people at work know I had surgery and he does not know) asked me like 4 times if I wanted a sour patch kid and I kept saying no, and he kept insisting, I was like I am watching what I eat, I still held my ground. But today, I will be bringing an extra protein drink with me. -
I was cleared to do cardio (which I consider dancing to be) when I went for my check up at 9 days post op, they said not lifting for 2 more weeks. Should be ok, I would think

I was banded 11 days ago, and I have not lost any weight since Monday (in fact I am up a little bit, might be from sodium in egg drop soup, I am thinking), But yeah, since I am on liquids, I am only having about 600 calories. I posted a thread yesterday if people think I need to increase that and I think I have been taking in to low of calories for to many days that it finally stalled my weight loss, I tried to bump it up yesterday and eat more, only got to maybe 800 calories, but it did not change, like I said it may be the soup. My long term goal, once I start eating real food is at least 1200 calories or more, I find I can't eat that low and still lose weight. I did WW last year and I tried to eat under the points and I stalled, and once I started eating more I started losing again. I may just be stuck in a plateau til I get to increase my calories with real food, which totally sucks, but I am afraid to eat to much and to any damage, and it is hard to get a lot of calories on liquids.

Band and metal detector!
Jess55 replied to Louismom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thing is that I don't think the detectors at stores detect metal, I think it is more of a security code detection tyoe thing. I have not seen one in real life, but I would assume the lap band is made all out of silicone, maybe a little rubber for the injection port. I would not think that they should be able to set off a store security detector. Yes, they might had a serial number inscribed into them, but surely not one to set off a detector. I would think that that would be retarded on the manufacturer to make them that way. But, it is really weird that you are setting off detectors. Are you wearing the same sweater or anything, I got my sister a sweater for Christmas that I had to cut the security tag out of or they told me it might set off the detectors -
Need to increase calorie intake?
Jess55 replied to Jess55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I think it is to low. I worked in the beginning, now it is not, I'm going to drink an extra shake or something -
I am 10 days out and I have not lost any weight since Monday. I am barely getting 600 calories per day, since I am still on liquids. I am kind of thinking the low calories is why I am stalled right now, do you think I should try to increase it now, or just wait, I got to purees on Monday and maybe will be able to get a little more then. If I were to increase it now, how would I do it? I may try to eat a greek yogurt today and see what that does, but problem is I don't get that hungry, or if I do it is at night.

I'm 28, also got banded on the 20th of this month
-
I am not at that point. I am still on liquids. But prior to surgery I was always constipated and I took miralax 5 times a week to keep me going. I also took fiber gummies and was eating fiber one bars (not sure if I will be able to eat those when I get to real food, I hope so). But the miralax works well, and I was told taking that daily is a lot better than taking stool softeners daily, they can lead to liver problems with continued use.

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Got back from my post op appointment. weird that did not even check to make sure my incisions were healing, just asked how I was doing and such. I saw the PA and not the surgeon, but whatever. I asked what size band I had and she said it was the "Standard size" which she sad holds 14cc. I also asked if there was any saline in it yet and she did not say how much, just that the lap band always comes with something in it and so you always have something unless it is taken out. OK. I was told I can go back to doing cardio at the gym, but no lifting for 2 more weeks. Going to be kind of hard at work for 2 more weeks without being able to lift the larger animals. There are only 4 people there that know I had surgery,2 of my supervisors, they know what I had done, one of them told a new supervisor (which I was a little annoyed at, but she has the lap band too, so it is ok), and a girl I work with asked if I was sick last week, so I said I had surgery, she did not pry as to why, so I just left it at that. So having to ask people to pick up the big animals for me is going to be tough, but I'll manage. I go back in 4 weeks, and see the surgeon and maybe will get my first fill. Sounds good. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to put on my jeans today, and they felt like they were falling off!!! So I decided to try on this pair that I had that kind of fit but were really tight on the waist so I did not wear them that much and they fit, and are a little loose, OMG, yay, and I am only 9 days out, well plus my pre op diet. I am quite happy today. I am going to go get some new scrubs for work in a 2XL (had been wearing 3XL, because of my stupid hips) and even if they don't fit, I am going to buy them, because, last I checked a few weeks ago, I could almost get into them, so it should not be long now. Good day so far, going to my post op appointment now -
A cc is a unit of measurement for liquids it. It is interchangable with ml (milliliter)

UGH! This snowstorm is kiling me!
Jess55 replied to topazz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, Monday was one week since surgery for me, I wanted to get out of the house so bad, so I decided to go back to work and shoveled my car out. Not a very good idea one week post op and I hope I did not do any damage doing so, my back and arm are so sore today. I go for my post op tomorrow, not sure whether to tell my surgeon. But as with you, I am so bored being at home (always off on Tuesday and Wednesday), there is so much snow and it is so cold, I can't really go for a walk, and not risking going to the gym until my recheck. -
I am not sure what mine are going to do, I really hope they shrink. I already need a lift, have for as long as I can remember and I am only 28. It has been my plan to get them done when I lose the weight. (hopefully I will be able to afford it when the time comes). Or start planning on complaining of back pain to try and get insurance to cover some of it

What have you lost...
Jess55 replied to LapBandBobbi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since my pre op diet, I've almost lost an automobile tire. Though from my highest weight ever, I've lost the worlds largest ball of tape. Though, since I have lost and gained a bit probably more than that...lol -
I was banded on the 20th, and I am kind of anxious to do some sort of physical activity. I hate walking but I like to go on the elliptical or do physical games like dancing or tennis etc on my wii. I want to do something but I am afraid of messing something up. I go for my post op appointment on Wednesday but I don't want to wait. How long did it take before you guys did stuff besides walk?

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am getting anxious to get back to doing some sort of physical activity too (not walking, I am not fond of it and it is to cold out), but I am just one week post op. I am going to my post op check Wednesday and I will ask. One bad thing I did do is I went back to work today and we had a lot of snow and I shoveled myself out. Not sure if I should tell my doctor I did that, I may get in trouble. A quick question, maybe TMI, I have had diarrhea since I started the liquid diet and I am usually constipated and take miralax regularly ( not since the diet though( so I am kind of don't want to take immodium, should I just wait it out and figure once I start eating stuff it should clear up? -
Has anyone else had vision problems after anesthesia, I had my surgery on Monday, lap band and apparently hiatal hernia repair. Ever since then I feel like my vision is a lot worse. I do wear glasses and need to make and ophthomology appointment anyways, but so far I seem to be havng a harder time reading things. Not sure if it could have something to do with the anesthesia.

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what I wasn't sure about. I mean 4 oz of yogurt I can understand, but I figure the shake is still liquid enough to go right out of the pouch onto the lower part pf the stomach. I need to make a post op appointment with the nutritionist tomorrow -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is the reason that people have trouble laying on their left side bc most doctors put the port there? My doctor put my port in the middle of my abdomen, I guess that is not the norm. Also the sheet that I got with the food instructions say only 4 oz, I've been drinking a shake at 8 oz but taking my time over close to 1 hour. Is this bad? It is the only way I know to get the protein requirement in as like I've said before I can't mix the unflavored in with my clear drinks as it tastes nasty to me? -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am not the only one, but I realized that it is not just night it is when I'm laying down, I just hope it wil get better over time. I'm going back to work tomorrow so I hope I feel ok, still having occasional pains though not enough to take the pain meds ( haven't taken them since day 3) I picked up my 21# dog yesterday and I hurt after so work is going to prove a bit difficult. I'm a LVT and I have to take animals out of cages and bend and such. My supervisor knows though so she said just do what you can. -

Curious if it is normal that my left arm only seems to bother me at night? I am 5 days post op -
5 days post op and made it through Christmas!
Jess55 replied to amber2604's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Job! I'm 5 days post op too. I went over my parent house today and my mom had made Soup for me, so I ate the broth, there was other stuff there and I was tempted, but I held my ground. Luckily I was at least able to move on to shakes (after being on Clear liquids since surgery), that at least filled me up a little more and I was able to get more Protein in. Not sure how your doctor works it, but I won't be able to go to mushies, until the earliest next Monday (2 weeks post op), if you are allowed lucky you. My mom had made matza ball soup and I so wanted one, I figure when I am on mushies I can kind of blend one, so she sent me home with a box. I go for my post op on Wednesday and have to remember to ask what size is the band and if there is anything in it. I never asked before surgery and I did not see him after surgery
