  1. Ok, I am so glad that I am not the only one with this problem. I am only on purees right now and I eat and I know I feel full (not painfully so) but I want to eat more. I have to really stop myself from doing so. I know that this is probably what made me fat in the first place
  2. My scale seems to be mad at me, been plateaued since one week after surgery and even up a little. I think it is because I have moved onto purees. And it is driving me crazy, I put it away today and have vowed not to step on it 'til at least Monday, which is my weigh in day. I hope I can keep off of it, because it is making me depressed. I am just going to continue eating my purees and just worry about that and going to the gym. I honestly can say, I can't wait for the next week to pass, so I can start doing the weight machines again. My doc said last Wednesday in 2 weeks I can start lifting again. So another week of avoiding the large dogs at work.
  3. I am 15 days post op now. I lost like 9.8 lbs or my 1 week pre op diet, and 9.4 lbs the week after surgery. Since then I have got up .6 lbs. I have heard people can plateau after surgey. My question is, Is this going to last 'til my first fill? Or maybe only another week? I am only getting in like 600-700 calories a day, I just moved onto mushies yesterday. I did not know that people can plateua after surgery, before I had surgery, so I guess I was under the impression, that post op I would lose a lot quickly and then it would slow, and I guess thinking about it, I did since I lost 19 lbs in 2 weeks (includes pre op). I guess I am just getting frusterated that the scale has not moved except in a little upward fashion. I have started going back to the gym, no weights until next week though, so just the elliptical. Also, Sunday, I burned like 450 calories on the elliptical (I have a polar HR monitor watch with chest strap that tells you exactly how much you burn), but only had like 550 calories that day, is that ok to use that much of your intake, so that in essence I only had 100 calories that day?
  4. I'm sorry if I plateau for 6 months I dont know what I would do! I know it can be slow, but I expect the scale to move a little
  5. Can anyone else tell me how long it usually lasts?

    Surgery = Pain

I work in the veterinary field as a liscenced veterinary technician, I see animals go in surgery all the time, at my job they keep animals on Fentanyl CRI's post op. This was my first surgery, I was actually surprised on how short the pain lasted. Yes I was in pain when I woke up and the rest of the day (the hydrocodone APAP (which I looked up seems to be vicodin with acetominophen) worked wonders. The second day I was still uncomfortable but it wasn't bad and by the third day I had stopped taking the pain meds. I had taken a week off from work to recuperate, because I have a physical job, but I was getting antsy at home at like day 5. I don't know why, but I never realized being intubated is so painful/uncomfortable. My throat was really hurting me when I woke up. But it has taught me something, always go a little smaller when intubating a dog/cat. I never thought about what trying to place a larger tube does to their throats. I am with you though, fluffytofabulous, seeing threads made about being painful after surgery, did you not think having your skin, muscle, and facia cut open was not going to hurt.
  7. The betadine (yellow stuff). Will come off after a couple showers, at least it did for me because I was not about to scrub at my abdomen right away. I was really uncomfortable the day of surgery, but felt a lot better the second day and even better the third. I only took the pain meds the first 3 days. It will get better. As for if the incisions are infected, if the are warm, red and inflamed or if you see any green discharge I would be concerned. But if you had a little discharge now, it may be slightly concerning.

    Stomach Sleepers

I have been sleeping on my stomach since the day after surgery and my abdomen is a little sore in the morning, but nothing crazy and it usually goes away when I get up.
  9. Yeah, I was going to the gym presurgery. I was doing 30-40 min cardio 3-5 times per week and like 30 min on the weight machines a few times per week. Though I did not go the week prior to surgery

    Fluid Pocket???

First off let me say, I am a LVT (basically a nurse for animals, not with humans) so take my advice as you will. To me that makes no sense. Fluid that they give you through an IV should only be in your blood stream, not under your skin. And even if your catheter infiltrates and you get fluid in your sub Q space it should absorb within a couple hours at the most. If it is right by your breast bone, did they put your port by there, or any incision there? If so it could be a seroma, basically a build up of fluid, maybe due to a suture reaction or something. Sometimes they need to be drained, but a lot of times they may fill up again, or I think you could also warm compress them too.
  11. To be honest, I have had a few slip ups, and have eating a little real food, which includes some pretzels at work. I only today was supposed to start mushie/puree portion. (I hope you won't send me to lapband hell for that) So I hope I did not screw up to bad, and I was good today. I am going to try to be good for the next 2 weeks and not eat stuff I am not supposed to yet. It is just so hard, more so at work. I mean only 3 people know what I had done, so it is had to answer when I had a shake for lunch, why aren't I eating.

    2 weeks post op

Yeah, I am very clutzy sometimes. I was trying to take it out with one hand (only ever got one pot holder, guess I need to get a second one). I agree with Amber, I think I still will be clutzy at 150 too...LOL. Though Mattie, it would be great if accidents decreased with my weight.

    2 weeks post op

Well I am 2 weeks out today too. And I had the same thing for dinner. You probably got it from www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com. That's where I got it. Unfortunately when taking it out of my oven I spilled half of it all over my oven. Looks like I am going to learn how to clean my oven tomorrow....lol. Today was my first day of mushies. It felt good to actually eat something. I lost like 9 lbs the first week and the second I went up .5 lbs it is bumming me. I am hoping this week the scale will move again

    Heartburn

I will, though if you hear anything too, let me know. I am going to ask a girl at work tomorrow that has a lap band. And possibly call the surgeons office
  15. For the past 3 days at least once a day I have been getting bad heartburn. I am 13 days post op and I also had a hiatal hernia repair. I had gotten heartburn in the past, now I assume due to the hiatal hernia, but never every day like this. Has anyone suffered post op heartburn like this, or should I contact my surgeon? I do have to go for a barium swallow prior toy next visit in a like 3 weeks. I wonder if I should do it now to make sure it hasn't slipped or anything.
  16. @girlofthebeach I am 13 days post op now and I still occasionally have the "stuck in my throat" feeling, I am not sure what it is, but I swallow a few times and it seems to go away. I know nothing is there because it doesn't coincide with eating (well technically drinking). I did have a hiatal hernia fixed too, so maybe something with that. Not sure if you had one. Anyways - I went to the gym today and did 30 min on the elliptical. I am very happy about that, I was doing 40 min prior to surgery but I had taken the week before and 1.5 weeks after surgery off the gym, so I feel this is good. Considering it is only my second time going post surgery. I hope the gym will start me losing again, I haven't lost since last monday and may even be up a pound. Even though I am only getting in like 600-700 calories a day. I move onto mushies tomorrow, maybe getting more calories in on that will help me, I hope.

    commercials?

Yeah, I have done Jenny Craig. The food is expensive, it took me 3 years to lose 70 lbs, then I went off and gained most of it back. I joined Weight Watchers before I could gain it all back. I lost like 30 lbs, then started gaining and losing the same few lbs, and I decided to finally do something for good and went to a seminar for WLS

    Scared

When I was admitted to the hospital and they were getting my IV in and everything they put a scopalamne patch behind my ear. Anti nausea patch, also they had me take an antacid, not sure what kind it was but it tasted horrible. I did not get nauseas at all after surgery. I left the patch on for like 3 days I think. Though I found out that it messes with your eyesight. I am with you, I hate to throw up, and I have not yet, I am only 12 days out though. Hopefully I will try to remember always to chew chew chew my food, because I think I will be totally miserable if I ever get stuck. I only took the pain meds for 3 days post op, and I only took them the third day because I got TOM and I got wicked cramps. Though at work yesterday I got really bad heart burn, not sure why. I had a hiatal hernia fixed during my surgery so I thought I would not get heart burn anymore, will have to remember to ask my surgeon when I go back. But as for pain post op, it was not bad, it was only bad the first day and basically when I woke up, but the nurse was right there when I woke up and gave me Fentanyl (I beleive it was) right away and I fell right back asleep.
  19. Yeah I started back at the gym yesterday. I only was able to do 15 min on the elliptical, but I plan to work my way back up slowly
  20. I understand how you feel. I lost 9 lbs my first week, since then nothing. I am 12 days post op. I go for my first fill in 3.5 weeks and the only thing I am thinking right now is how will I look and feel if I go in and have lost nothing. I feel once I start eating real food, I will start losing, I hope
  21. It may be from being intubated (the breathing tube they put in you) how long post op are you? You should get it checked though, because it is possible you could have pneumonia
  22. As for whether you can drink shakes, that is up to your Dr. I was allowed to progress to shakes at 5 days, some people are on clear liquids longer. Yeah the isopure drinks are nasty, I could not get my protein in during the clear liquids because all the clear protein drinks are nasty. I am drinking the Unjury shakes, I like chocolate splendor, mixed with milk, it tastes just like chocolate milk, and the vanilla, not sure how to describe it, but it is good. They're not thick, but they are filling to me.
  23. I would probably tell my Dr. but then again people have reasons not to tell people. I did not tell my sister 'til after I had surgery, well the next time I saw her which was Christmas, 5 days after surgery. My sister is a very opinionated person and I was afraid she would say something negative and I did not want to hear it and my mom completely understood. She was actually ok with it and did not really say much about it. She is overweight as well, not to the extent I was, but she is taller than I am, so it is more spread out on here.
  24. Happy new year! 11 days post op for me and I am starting out 2011 on the right foot and will be able to keep my resolution this year. 2011 is going to be a great year for me
  25. I had a girl at work who had asked where I'd been, so I said I had surgery, and I was hoping she'd be ok with that answer and not press me, but she kept asking what for, so I said the same thing, that I had a hiatal hernia repair, which was not a lie, it just wasn't the complete truth. I will probably tell peope eventually, but right now, it is my thing and I do not want everyone knowing. I don't want to hear if they think it was a bad idea, or feel like I have everyone watch like everything I put in my mouth.
