I've heard about this. I currently have a polar heart rate monitor which shows actual calories burned, I use it when I work out. Is this better? Someone said they spent $300? Is that really how much it is?

Gallbladder affecting my realize band
Jess55 replied to brent0517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am no doctor, but I dont see how it is possible. Also 42cc in a 14 cc band? I'm unless there is something wrong with the band, there is no way. Unless there is a leak. You say he gets negative pressure? So he draws back and emptied the band completely, got negative pressure, then gave you 42cc? Like I said then there has to be something wrong with the band itself, like for some reason it is made of super stretchy material. I do not see how tour gall bladder can effect that. Also you put to much saline in it and it is bound to explode. For example reconstituting a bottle of iv meds at work, bottle holds 10cc, try to put more than that in or don't get the air out, OT is going to be really hard to get in there and if you do, either the bottle will explode or the top will shoot off. -
@honk. I was banded 12/20/10, so like 2.5 months ago. As for how long I can go, honestly it depends, if I am at work, I get hungry quicker, maybe 3-4 hours. When I am at home, I can go 5 or more. Sometimes it is hard at work, I work 10 hour shifts, so I try to eat about 5 or more hours onto the shift, or I'll be starving before I get home. Also on Tuesday's I work in surgery and this past Tuesday it was crazy and I did not get to have lunch til 4 pm and I had had breakfast at 7 am. By that time I wasnt even that hungry any more but ate anyways and I was still busy so I ate kind of fast and felt worse after I ate. That is something I need to work on.

Just curious how all of your docs work with you. I went for a check up today and was expecting a fill. I was banded 12/20 and I have not had one yet. Last month I only lost 2 lbs and my doctor said he wanted me to heal more, before my fill, I was kind of annoyed at that, but went with it. Today I saw the PA, I had lost 5 lbs and she said since you are losing at a decent rate there is no need to fill unless you are struuggling, not following the rules, or not losing. I would love to lose faster, but am not pissed that I did not get a fill. I am not doing thing totally the way they want, I am spreading my food out more, I was told no eating inbetween meals but I do have like a WW string cheese or something like that, I feel that is better than only 3 meals (I will keep that to myself though). Honestly I feel if I can do it without fills that is great. I am starting to do kickboxing and I think that will help kick up my weight loss a notch. I do not necessarily feel I am starving between meals either, a lot of times I can get rid of some hunger but just drinking my wyler's drink. What do all your docs do?

It's Friday - what are you eating today?
Jess55 replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Woke up a bit late this morning and wanted to go to the gym and I can't eat to close to going so kind of skipped breakfast. After gym 1WW string cheese lunch 93% ground beef burger (no bun) 3 oz, 1 oz 97% ff hot dog. 1/2 cup green Beans Afternoon snack: ww string cheese Dinner: turkey breast with lite gravy. Cooker carrots Evening snack Fiber one bar Ate under my calories today, esp since I went to the gym. But oh well. Skipping breakfast messed me up -
That's why I was wondering because albs isn't that great. I was hoping to lose more. @daydreamer- I have restriction to agree I do feel satisfied on the 4oz proteIn,1/2 cup veggies and it lasts for a number of hours. In a way I feel that just knowing I have the band holds me back from going crazy in my eating and I will feel awful if I do
-
Good for you! I hope I can do it without fills too. I do find eating 3 meals I do not get to 1200 calories, which is why I have a couple in-between healthy snacks.

I do eat sweets occasionally. I feel if I deprive myself I will end up going overboard like I used to and buy a bunch of crap and binge. That is one thing that factored into me getting the band as opposed to gastric bypass. I didn't want to feel like I was depriving myself in life. Do I keep sweets in my house? Absolutely not! Because I know if I do, I will eat it all at once. So once in a while I will treat myself to something and then that is it for a while.

I just came back from my appointment with the PA, and I asked her, because I have been wondering myself. She said since the pouch that was created is smaller, there is less surface area which leads it to take longer for the NSAID to be dissolved. So that it is sitting there longer and can cause erosions and irratation. Now she confirmed what I had thought originally that you can take advil and suck for headaches and such, it is more of continued use that can cause a problem. I've been taking advil for the occasional headache since my band because I had thought that once in a while was not going to be a problem and I was right. So if you need it for arthritis or something you should not take it, but once in a while is fine.
-
I don't see why you would need one. Someone posted about nasogastric tubes, but all the NG tubes I've seen (for animals) are made of rubbery material nothing rigid or anything about them, so there would be no way to perforate the pouch. Aa for the NSAID thing, I still do not get it, and I plan to talking to my PA or Dr. whoever I see tomorrow about them. I've been taking them for years, for headaches and stuff, not on a daily basis and there was no inflammation noted or wnything on my upper endo, so if it has been years and no mucosal damage, how all the sudden can taking them with the band cause damage which can lead to a perf? I have taken them since my surgery (Advil) and I will ask tomorrow. Plus I've read somewhere that now there is thought that there is not a problem with them.

I've heard of people feeding their pets a raw diet and personally I would not, raw meat, yeah that is just digusting, and there are so many things you can get from consuming raw meats and stuff. So would I ever do it, hell no

I think you must've read it wrong. There is no way that they only paid your surgeon $1,100

For my gym I go to Lucille Roberts and they don't have much for kickboxing. I have like 5 months left on my contract there, may find a differet after that. I do recall that they said you can get some sort of rebate in my health insurance if you go to the gym a certain amount of times per year, maybe I will look into that and use that towards kickboxing. I am going to check around with the other people at my job and see if they go anywhere cheaper, otherwise I think I am just going to sign for the commitment (after seeing if I can talk them into just going monthly..LOL), because I really like it and I think it will do wonders for my weight loss.

Your pets being fat is just as bad for them as us being fat. Stop feeding your pets!!! I am an LVT and I see fat animals come in all the time with problems. It is not good for them

You should also get it checked by a doctor. Yes, it could be your weight, but my knee started hurting on and off and I ignored it for 2 months, then one day it became very painful to walk on it, found out it was patella tendinitis (inflammation of the patella tendon.). 2 weeks of NSAIDs (before surgery) cleared it up

I assume you are talking about a urinary catheter? I did not need one, I think since the procedure is relatively short, about an hour, one is not needed. I haven't seen anyone post that they had one. If you do need one hopefully it is after you are asleep. I was very nervous about being naked i the OR. Luckily they did not take my gown off until after I was asleep. Made me a lot more comfortable since I am very modest. If you are talking an IV catheter, everyone gets one.

In need of a pick-me-up!
Jess55 replied to Hopes of a Dream!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with you. I was banded 12/20. I was doing well, but the last couple weeks I have lost all the surgical restriction that I had. I've had no fills so far. I am going in a week for a fill. I have been eating awful. I have been going to the gym 4-5 days a week and burning like at least 500 calories each time, but I think the way I've been eating is canceling it out. Hopefully the fill will help us some and I can say no to the junk at work (I do not have bad stuff at home) So both of us needs to do better. Good luck -
Unfortunately yes, I lost 9 lbs my first week post op, then stalled for 3 weeks Now I am losing less than a pound some weeks, some weeks nothing. Since my first week post op, I have only lost 4.5 lbs and I am getting quite upset about it. I am going to try to switch some things this week and see if I can improve that. I'm embarrassed to go to my dr next week.

when can you start to try to eat?
Jess55 replied to BooKoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyones doct differs in their post op plan. I've seen people on here that can eat solids after less than a week. My dr. had me on clear liquids, week one, full liquids week 2, muhies/purees week 3, ground/chopped foods week 4, and solids week 5. -
EXERCISE-someone be real with me!
Jess55 replied to MoTown22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been going to the gym 4-5 times per week doing at least 30 min elliptical and maybe 40 min on weight machines. What I really want to do is martial arts (not sure what form yet). I feel I am to fat right now. I would be very uncomfortable right now. I figure once I lose like 30 lbs I am going to find a dojo and start. -
when does it all begin????
Jess55 replied to cinderella24442@netzero.co's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm surprised you are allowed to eat that much so soon. My post op was only up to .5 cup at 3 weeks and no more than .75 cups at week 4. Then week 5 up to one cup. Please tell me that I will start losing after my first fill. I am just looking at the weight I've lost since after surgery and it sucks. I have almost no feeling of having a band, besides getting a little full quicker. In the past 4 weeks I have lost 2.5 lbs. That is unacceptable to me. I know it will take time to come off, but come on! Besides a week that I was away (which I know messed me up). I have been going to the gym 4 or 5 days a week doing 30 min cardio and usually at least 30 of weights. I do know that I am losing inches (had to get smaller jeans) but I need weight to move too. Please, I need encouragement! -

Jess55 replied to cinderella24442@netzero.co's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope things start after my first fill. I am going on march 5th. Over 3 months after my surgery. It was supposed to be a little sooner, but first I was on vacation then my dr was. I don't think my dr will be happy with how little I've lost since my last appointment. I hope things pick up after my fill -
I got permission at my recheck 9 days post op to start cardio

They never told me how much I should not lift after surgery. I'm a vet tech and I went back to work 1 week post op and I kept my maximum to lifting 20 lb animals. I had not problems. 10 lbs you should be fine
