  1. NSV today! I fit into an XL top and bottom! I can't remember the last time I could. I am so happy!!

    So tell me...

I was banded 12/20/10, and have lost 30 lbs including the one week pre op diet. My weight loss may be slow compared to some of the others but I have lost inches. Just fint into an XL yesterday. Like I said weight loss has seemed slow, but my self esteem, is so much higher now. My depression has basically completely gone away. I have to say having surgery completely changed my life. I don't mind going to the gym and I recently joined kickboxing which I absolutely love! I had not comorbidities though, just plain fat...LOL

    weight gain!

Also chinese food has a lot of sodium, which will make you retain fluid. I usually am up on the scale for up to 2 days after eating chinese food. I know this, so my "official" weigh in day is Tuesday, so I will not eat chinese food on monday or sunday. Seems weird, but I don't want to be up on the day I track my weight

    Stuck

My weight has slowed too. I have been exercising a lot, so this week I am trying to eat 1400 calories, which is what livestrong says I should be eating to lose 2 lb per week (well technically 1460, but whatever) and see if that makes me lose. I had been eating 1200.
  5. Have you had bloodwork recently? I would definitely have some done, if you are bruising so easily it could indicate a variety of different things. Not saying it definitely means anything but I still would check it out
  6. It feels so good. This surgery has changed my life. Weather it be the lap band itself or the fact that I decided to change my life and actually am doing it. For the first time in a long time, probably since 6th grade which was like 17 years ago, I feel good about myself. My depression which I have had since about then is gone. I am going to the gym and doing kickboxing and actually enjoying it. Even though I feel my weightloss is a little slow, my body is changing and I feel good. I have to say I was so miserable before surgery I thought about ending things a few times a month, but since surgery I have not had one negative thought. Sorry for my sob story, but I felt I needed to share. Everyone keep up the great work!

    March Madness Challenge

After staying the same last week. I am down 3.6 lbs to 217.2. Very happy with that! Out of 220's and out of BMI of 40's range

    Regrets

I have no regrets! Zero! I was miserable with my life before surgery. And though I have not lost as much as I was thinking I would by now, I feel 100% better about myself and am doing things I did not feel comfortable doing before ie kickboxing. This surgery changed my life
  9. Reading this got me thinking, I am an LVT who works at an emergency/specialty hospital. When we have patients with feeding tubes and occasionally the owner brings them back because they get clogged due to them not flushing them well, we can use regular coca cola to unclog them. I wonder of that would work if you were stuck, having a drink of coke. Personally I hate regular coke and have never been stuck so I would not try it, but am curious if it would work

Help! Food addiction and compulsive = failure?

No problem, I wish you success.

Help! Food addiction and compulsive = failure?

I recommend getting all the junk out pf your house. I might be like that because when people bring stuff to work I have a hard time staying away from it. Since I know this I do not bring anything like that into my house. I do have a snack at night, but it is usually a fiber one bar or a 100 calorie bag of popcorn, and I just have one. So I say again, not being mean, get it out of your house!

    need some advice ?!?!?

I'm thinking of upping my calories from 1200 to 1400. I have been working out a lot more and doing kickboxing as well as the gym and my weightloss has stalled. I may try it for a week and see what happens. Thing is I am full at 1200, so maybe I will add a protein shake or something so it kind of goes right through
  13. I've never taken doxycycline, but I work with animals and I know in animals it has to be taken with food and especially in cats followed with water to wash it down because it can cause esophageal strictures and maybe erosions. Not sure if it applies to your case, but since your dr suggested you take it with food, I assume the same is true with people.
  14. When people bring junk food into work, I seem to lose all willpower. Even if I eat it and my stomach says no. I obviously keep all junk out of the house for those reasons. But if is put in front of me I have problems. Today there were cookies at work and i had more than i should have. Only thing good is i went to kickboxing after work, so hopefully i burned it off. Anyone have advice?
  15. That is probably about what I had, or less. I did not get up to even 1000 calories until the end of week 4 post op
  16. I listened to that rule for about a week. I have not had any problems from drinking through a straw

    Post Op 4 days!

I'm glad you're feeling so good. I too had an easy recovery, first day I wanted to die, but second day was much better and 3rd day was off meds. I kind of feel bad for all those that ate still very painful a week later. A week after my surgery I dug my car out from under a foot pf snow (in December). Lol

    When do you exercise?

I usually go in the morning. I don't have the energy to go after work. I used to sleep in on days I was off or worked late, but find I no longer can do so, I wake up about 8-8:30.

    ONEderland

    Congrats!

    gym routine ideas?

I usually do the elliptical for 30-40 minutes, then I got on the weight machines and just got to most of them for the next 30-40 minutes. I also just added in kickboxing at a different place too.

    Can you feel your port?

I can feel mine, pretty easily, in fact that worries me. If I press, less than an inch, I can feel it. So I am worried that it is going to be extremely visable once I lose weight (Not that I planning on ever wearing a bikini..LOL) But I don't like the fact that I can easily feel it. Maybe there is a lot of fat behind it?
  22. For the liquid diet, your dr. should have given you a list of what you ca*n have. You can't follow anyone else, since all docs are differnt.

    My Band Passed the Test

Good job! But to answer the who wouldn't get cheesecake, I wouldn't, I actually hate cheesecake..LOL
  24. Of course it is normal to have second thoughts. But it is SO worth it. I was very depressed for many years, mostly because of who I was and what I looked like. During the psych eval, I had to lie, so I would not seem as depressed as I actually was. I'd tried Jenny Craig and WW and lost weight but went off of it and gained the weight back. This surgery changed my life and perhaps saved it. I thought about suicide many times. (sorry to give you my sob story) but since I've had this surgery, thought my weight lo ss has been a bit slower than I would like it to be, I decided to change my life. I've increased my activity, changed my hair, am more outgoing, and began accepting complements. I've accepted a request to go kickboxing with a friend at work who has been asking me to go for the better part of a year. I feel great! Of course I want to lose more weight but I am happy with myself now. I have not been depressed since surgery (except for one day this week when I made a mistake at work). I never thought I would be at the surgery point either. I contemplated gastric bypass like 4 years ago but chickened out and said I could do it myself. Kind of annoyed I did not look into lap band sooner. I feel this surgery helped me greatly. Not sure if is the surgery itself or the fact that I feel that I can do this now. So if you're not happy with yourself as you are now, I say go for it, things can only get better for you!
  25. Thanks for all the advice! I don't have a desk, I am on my feet all day in the ICU, and I can't eat in there so I have to go other places to eat. Unfortunately I don't chew gum. I'm just going to try to avoid it, there is a different bathroom I could use, so I can try that. I don't like to completely deprive myself, so next time I will have one and walk away. I do have some will power though. We have a vending machine downstairs which I always stay away from. Also I like m&ms so there is one of those .25 vending machines at the front waiting room, so if I want a little chocolate I go to that. It gives me a little m&ms without eating a whole bag and I don't do it everyday, and I never go to it more than once per day. So I do think that is good of me.
