  1. I in no way meant he should not get the surgery. I just meant he needs to think before he jumps into it. I wish I had gotten this surgery earlier. But in some ways I don't think I was ready. I liked to eat whatever I wanted. I'd buy bags of cheese doodles and Oreos and stuff and binge. I haven't done that in years, but if I was doing that and decided to jump into the surgery ten, I would not have been ready.
  2. For me I chose lapband because it is less invasive. I strongly considered bypass a number of years ago, but I work in the veterinary field and I've seen quite a few post op cases of peritonitis with intestinal surgeries. I did not feel comfortable with any cutting. Also, now this may seem wrong to other people banded) I did not want to completely give up things like chocolate, which you get dumping with bypass. I am losing weight and I still can have a treat once in a while
  3. You don't eat 4-5 bites. You eat slowly. You can go put to eat. You just don't eat everything on your plate. If I get something out, I can make at least 2 a lot of times 3 meals out of it. I went out with friends last week. I did make a mistake I ate some bread first then had salad, then did not really have room for my protein. I was supposed to eat my protein first, and not eaten bread but it was a lesson. You should not want to eat such large portions because it will make you not feel well. If you don't think you are ready to eat small portions you probably are not ready for this surgery.
  4. I had that about a week and a half post op and I was worried I was getting pneumonia , but I just kept taking deep breaths., I knew it would hep and it only lasted 2 days, so I knew it was ok
  5. After you heal from surgery you want to eat 3-4 oz protein, 1/2 cup veggies and if needed 1/4 cup starch. I hardly ever eat the starch. Only have a couple times in the 2 months I've been eating normal foods. I do feel full from it and honestly I used to eat pasta a lot now I'd rather eat more protein if I'm still hungry. Nothing will happen to me if I eat flour products (I have no fill) but some people who have fills can't handle them, they get stuck on pasta or bread.

    Square One??

If you are still on mushies, I'd just finish healing before going to a diet such as Atkins. The first 6 weeks are for healing. I lost weight the first week post op. Then weeks 2-4 nothing. Sure I was frustrated but I wasn't eating enough calories during my healing. Week 5 I finally got up above 1100 calories and I started losing again. If you want to try it try upping your calories. Some people don't lose if they eAt to little

Back to Work - Strenuous job

I would think you should be ok. I have a very physical job too. I am an LVT, and I am constantly picking up dogs and bending down etc. I avoided lifting any animals over 20lbs in the beginning. By week 3, I believe it was, I was back lifting over 60 lb animals and carrying them to the scale, into x-ray etc. with no problem. At my 10 day post op check I asked when it was ok to do weights and stuff, and they said 2 moreweeks, so I waited til then (well almost0. But I think you should be ok.

    Harm in liquids?

8-12 oz IMO isn't a lot. I drink a lot more than that in an hour. A liquid will go right into your lower stomach, so no you can't stretch your pouch with a liquid
  10. I think my actual hunger came back around week 3. My head hunger came back sooner though. I'm 3 months post op though and haven't had a fill yet. I'm comfortable with where I am at
  11. I believe head hunger to be eating because you want to, not because you are actually hungry

    Did i over do it????

It will not effect you in a negative way. There are some doctors who have patients eating normal food very shortly after surgery. But, I would urge you to go back and follow your dr post op plan. You want to give your stomach time to heal. Also I feel the post op diet helped me continue to eat better in the long rin

3 months (anyone else experiance this)

You're lucky, I had to wait 6 months for monitored weight loss.
  14. I honestly just met with one. I went to his seminar and liked him and I looked at reviews on his website. So I went with him
  15. I only recently realized this. The other day, I woke up just out of it, and feeling like I was getting sick. I pushed myself and went to my kickboxing class and at the end I was like I feel so much better. It was great!

    My own worst enemy

I'm sorry it has been hard on you the past few days. First of all, I am positive you did not gain 5 lbs. You would have had to eaten like 17,500 calories, and I am sure you did not. Maybe some of what you did eat was salty and you are retaining fluid. As for the exercise, just pick yourself up, and dust yourself off and the first chance you are able hop right back on the elliptical or whatever exercise you want to do. I know you can do it! Get back into planning your meals. A few days making mistakes is not the end of the world, we all have days when we completely mess up. So get right back on there and take charge. Good luck!
  17. I think that is one reason there are very few people who know I have had surgery. Sure I've had a some people ask how much I've lost, but most just comment and say, you look good, you've lost so much weight. I did not want to have to tell people a number. I am slow losing and averaging like 1 pd a week. But I look a lot smaller, because I am losing inches, because of the type of activity I am doing. But the few people that have asked me, I told one, but the others, I just say I don't really want to say. I feel it is my business. Maybe in the end I'll tell them how much I've lost, but for now, it is my business.

    BEVERAGES

I drink wyler's light packets in my water (similar to crystal light). And besides that I only drink plain water when I am working out.
  19. I'm not sure if there is a contraindication of drinking a lot if you are taking a diuretic, I know you probably want to drink more to not get dehydrated but then I don't know if to much would counteract it's effects, I'd check with your dr. On that. Me, I aim for at least 128 oz a day. Yeah I drink a lot.

    wk 5-2 1/2 PLATEAU!

It is normal, I plateued after my first week post op to when I finally started eating normal at week 5. I was frustrated, but I pushed through. Now it seems I lose one week then maintained the next and so forth. It is kind of annoying, but I know I am doing the right things and this might be how I lose. Just keep doing the right things and you will lose

    burning calories

I agree that livestrong is very inaccurate with calories. For my kickboxing class it says for 45 minutes I should burn 807 calories, with my HR monitor I actually burn anywhere from 400-450, depends how hard I work. Now the elliptical is closer to my actual number, but still quite off. So unfortunately you may be fooling yourself into thinking you are burning more calories than you are
  22. That is great! I am in the same boat as you, scale has been slow, but I'm losing inches and keep buying pants that are to big. Also I knew I was fat but I never felt so huge, except in pics and the mirror. I'd see a fat person walk by and say to myself I don't look like that. I did in fact but used to not think so.

To fill or not to fill

I agree with fluffytofabulous. I went in a few weeks ago expecting my first fill after being told the month before He wanted me to heal more. I'd lost 5 lbs in the month, some may say that is not a lot but I was told that as long as I am losing I wouldn't need a fill. At first I was a bit upset, but I realized I am satisfied/ full on what I am eating, I am exercising a lot and doing the right things. Why should I risk getting to tight where I can't eat things? Sure, I would love to lose faster, but it will come. I font need one, and wouldn't I love to be one of those people who lose all their weght with no fill. Aldo I am sure your doc meant 10 lbs per month. 10 lbs per week is not healthy in the least. That is like eating nothing.

    What is your goal weight?

My goal right now is 135 which would put me at the top of the "normal" BMI scale. I may change this later on, I have to see what I look like. I think it will be lower, but I hate what people look like when they are like skeletons (I'm sure I won't have that problem though...LOL) We will see. My highest weight is 308, so I am getting a bit close to having lost 100 lbs (not with the band though), that day will make me extremely happy.
