No longer morbidly obese.. just plain old obese! And I'm loving it! HA
Jess55 replied to jingleboob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! Is that what differentiates obese from morbidly obese? A bmi of under 40? I didn't know that! -
I had been going to the gym for years, but most of the time it was, "gah, I have to go to the gym". Now I found kickboxing and I love it, so I love going. I do feel a little happy to go to the gym too, but I rarely go anymore, since I've been doing 5-6 kickboxing classes a week

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! That is awesome! I bet you were ecstatic when you stepped on the scale -
I said I was going to take them, but I am failing at that. I have one from 1 week before surgery and one 3 months post, that's it. I wanted to take them more frequently, but havent

I would go to the doc, it could be an infection, or possibly a seroma.

If you're supposed to be on liquids, I would recommend staying on them. I didnt eat ricotta bake until mushies. I know you may want something more substantial, but have a protein shake. You'll get through it. Good luck

Congrats on the beginning of a new you! -
I still have a ways to go, but I wad curious as to cost of the surgery. I have always promised myself when I lose weight I will fix my boobs. They lie flat against my chest. So I definitely need a lift, not sure if they can fix them without putting in implants or not. Also I am working out a lot but I have a feeling the skin on my lower abdomen is still going to hang. Those are the 2 things that I probably will get done. So how much wlll that cost about? Ive read you can sometimes get the lower abdomen covered by insurance if you have rashes or something. But let's say I have to pay out of pocket, what would it cost?

I use livestrong. I try not to eat out to much. I do need more ideas on things to make though. Right now basically all I make is, chicken with sauce and mozzarella (basically chicken parm, but lower calories), hamburger without the bun, and turkey with gravy. I need ideas! I don't eat seafood, I dud want to try to make chilli but am still looking for a recipe that looks good to me

So what do you use to track your calories? I'm sure not everything you eat has a label. Like if you get something out, like Chinese food or something? What do you use to track that? There has to be somewhere to get the Nutrition info. I use it for calories in, but I do not use it for calories burned. I know for a fact that it is completely unreliable for that.

Unfortunately for everyone it is not all about calories in vs. calories out at times. Last week I went to 7 kickboxing classes, I had tried increasing my calories to 1400 per day (what livestrong says that alone should make me lose 2 lb/week.) My kickboxing classes, I burn about 500 calories per class, so 7 classes should have led to a 1 lb weght loss. So added together theoretically I chould have lost 3 lbs. Do you know how much I lost? 0.6 lb!! Still trying to figure out what works for me. I'm going to go back to 1200 this week, except for monday and wednesday where I go to 2 kickboxing class. I do think 500-600 calories is to low, especially with exercise thrown in. When I was still on mushies and liquids and stuff, I only lost weight the first week post ofp, then nothing until week 5 when I was on real food and got my calories back up to at least 1000. I need calories to lose weight, while some people cn lose on less, I can't and maybe you can't either.

Wow! I guess I will be savng for a while. I live in NY (while not in the city, on Long Island) I assume it is very pricy here.

I always have eggs. 1/2 cup egg beaters. And on days I work early, Tuesday and Thursday I have bacon with it

I feel like I am myself depriving of food so i binge eat
Jess55 replied to MoMa1640's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't deprive myself of things. At work sometimes I crave m&ms but instead of going downstairs to the vending machine and getting a regular bag, I go to the front where they have those 25 cent machines and just get those. And as much as I want more sometimes (though I'm usually fine with those) I don't go back for more. I say all in moderation, which is one reason o got the band, I did not want to forever not have chocolate again. Have I gone overboard on things before, sure, but I try to shake it off and say ok don't do that again -
Atheist, Agnostic, Irreligious Bandsters
Jess55 replied to Birinak's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am. Im agnostic. I was raised Jewish but my moms side of the family is catholic and my fathers is Jewish. I used to go to temple and such but I really don't know what to believe. -
It is fine, you may get hungry faster. But if I'm out at a resteraunt with people, I kind of tend to forget that rule too

I just came back from my kickboxing class and it finally after a week of acting weird gave me accurate data. Idk maybe it was moving around a lot or something, not sure. This may sound stupid but I just got a new sports bra and wore it the first time today, so maybe it was moving around to much with my old bras. I'll have to see if it continues to work. But I feel better that the info I have been getting all week was truly off and I was not going crazy

Nov/Dec 2010 bandsters..How ya doing?
Jess55 replied to DRP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 12/20 and have lost a little over 30#. I have not had a fill yet and am very comfortable where I am. I do think I have something in my band from surgery though, I want to ask my doc next time I go. I feel GREAT. My energy is way up and I just feel so much better about myself -
I started back at the gym on the elliptical 2 weeks post op having started mushies. I was cleared to start lifting at I think 3-4 weeks post op. So I started on the weight machines then. I had a quick recovery like the prvious poster. I only took the pain meds the first, second and once on the third day, day 4 I went out shopping and shoveled snow and went to work day 7

It sucks recently I think my polar HRM has taken a turn for the worst. It is an older model an F6 and it has been giving me very unreliable data for the past week or so. For example it says my max HR is all the suddenmuch higher than it was. Also the calories burned have dropped drastically, I did lose weight and I expected it to drop but not by like 100 calories a session. I did take earlier advice and scrub the electrodes but no dice. I've e-mailed polar today and waiting on a response. May have to get a new one, or consider a body bugg

That makes sense now. I was doing measurements the other day and I am looking for better bras so I was checking my cup size and it seemed bigger, and I kept measuring because I thought that can't be right. I hope it evens out soon but I still fit into the same cup so I'm not going to get a bigger one.

NSV ~ No longer a PLUS size!!!
Jess55 replied to carolann0117's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! That is so awesome! I totally can't wait to gget there! -
Mine came back pretty fast. Back at work after one week ( and dug my car out from under snow). Made it almost through my 10 hour shift, would have stayed the whole thing but my manager asked if I wanted to leave because she knew I had sx and I was a little tired, so I left like 45 min early. I went back to the gym about 2 weeks post op.

About 12 days after surgery 3 days in a row in the evening I got the worst heartburn I ever had. It literally felt like someone was stabbing me in the chest. I gave it one more day before I was going to call the doctor but it never came back. I was still on liquids at that point so I have no idea what brought it on. And I'm happy to say it hasn't come back since. Also I did have a hiatal hernia repair as well so I had had heartburn every so often in the past

I can understand Kim, I feel the same way at times, but you can't let it get to you. Think about all YOU have accomplished. I for one feel so much better about myself, have started kickboxing last month (which I would've been embarrassed to do before), am getting compliments like crazy at work about how good I look and my weight loss (actually bothers me at times, since I've never been good at getting them). So think about things that are happening to you and hold those close and not what others are doing. Some people lose quicker and some lose slower. If I have your weight loss at 6-7 months, I will be happy.
