December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is awesome. I'm going to be seeing some friends on Friday that I haven't seen since august and I was like probably about 50 lbs heavier. As much as I hate people fussing over my weight and stuff, I hope they notice. I mean they can't not, my loss may be slower but I am a ton smaller. Also I have about 4 lb (less probably after I weigh tomorrow) til I am 100lb less than my highest weight (not all with lap band). That will be a happy day when I see 208 on the scale! Then not much further after til onederland! -
As for a urinary catheter, not likely. Lap band surgery is only about an hour, so you should not need one. As for being intubated, yes you will. It helps maintain your airway and keeps you under with gas anesthetic. What surprised me (and I've intubated hundreds if not thousands of animals in my career) is that your throat is so sore afterward, I'd never really thought about it. Sugar free Popsicles helped with that

Surgery 4-28, Camping 4-29
Jess55 replied to icinderella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As little as my pain was, I definitely would not have been up for camping the next day. I did not even leave the house til day 3. -
Fluffy just to correct you for a second 1/2 lb per week is 26 lb per year, not 52 as there ate 52 weeks in a year and she is losing 1/2 that. As for if you should get the fill, are you hungry? I've never had a fill but at this point I don't think having one would make me lose any faster I eat the right things and don't get hungry, but if you are overtaking and unable to control it, then probably a fill would help
-
I have never gotten a fill and I wouldn't say it is like not having a band. I get full from a 4 oz protein and a bit of veggies. I don't think that would have ever held me for hours prior to the band. I don't chew as well as I should but have never gotten stuck or PB'd, I have had a sensation of it going down slow. Also if I eat to fast I feel a little sick afterward.
-
There might be stuff in there because when I asked the PA at my post op appointment if there was anything in my band she said they come with a little bit in them. I assume to keep it from sticking to itself, so unless the doc took this out there is probably a little something in it

I use livestrong.com. They have the iPhone app so I have it all the time

I know bread is going to be tough, but Is Pizza out of the question?
Jess55 replied to Wheeler5051's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you can tolerate it it is fine. I don't deprive myself of anything. But now instead of 2 slices, one slice totally fills me up. -
I tossed around the idea of low carb, especially since there are a bunch of people at my job who are doing a modified Atkins and losing weight. I decided to stick with low calorie. I am a somewhat finicky eater to begin with so the limitations of low carb would be to much for me. Not to sayi don't try to limit my carbs, most days I stay around 90-100g. I don't eat sandwiches or stuff like that. I do occasionally eat a garlic knot because I love them, but most days not.

I've never been sick like that, but from what I've read if it just seems tight and you can get liquids down it is probably just irritated from the vomiting. I would just do liquids for the weekend and see how that goes, you should probably still go in and just make sure everything is ok. Hopefully it is just irritated!

Continuous use of NSAIDs with the band can cause ulcers due to the smaller surface area that the NSAID has to be dissolved in. So you could have caused an ulcer which could explain the nausea

Question for the ladies re: birth control
Jess55 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So on Sunday I started taking loestrin. Not for contraception but to control some bad symptoms I get on the first day of my period. First I was supposed to get my period yesterday but I started taking the bc early because I couldn't get those symptoms yet again. I'm no just spotting a tiny bit I know thats normal. But I was wondering my wright was up this week by a pound, I'm attributing it due to the fact I was supposed to get TOM. So even though I'm not going to fully get it will that pound come off? Or will it stick around til I get TOM again when I get towards the end of the pack? Also since I've started it I feel like I've been a little more tired, is this normal? Has anyone else taken loestrin and has it affected your weight loss? I told my doc I did not want one that affected your weight and she said this one doesn't but I read reviews online and a bunch of them said it did. Thanks for your advice -
Question for the ladies re: birth control
Jess55 replied to Jess55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm giving this til next Sunday so two full weeks on it. My weight us up like 3 lbs and I feel tired taking this. If this doesn't change after next Sunday I'm stopping it and talking tO my dr. I'd rather feel like shit one day a month then like crap everyday and have it hinder my weight loss. -
So far I've been on it 6 days and my weight is up 2.5-3lb. I am so not happy about this. I know it is the bc, I'm not eating more and I'm exercising the same. I'm giving it til next Sunday and if this weight isn't gone and I still feel crappy I'm stopping it and calling my doc. I'd much rather feel like shit one day a month and be able to lose weight, than feel crappy all the time and not be able to lose weight. People keep telling me my body will adjust so I'm giving it 2 full weeks. What do ya think? As for a different kind, I would love the shot but was told that one definitely makes you gain weight, and as for an implant, I don't think I could handle that

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looking at this I feel clueless. I assume I have the lap band brand, never wad told otherwise. As for the size I had asked at my initial post op check and I was told it is the standard size (what's that 14cc or 10cc?). As for fills, I've had none, my doc feels as long as I am losing and I'm not starving I don't need one. When I originally asked if I had anything in my band I was told well they cone with something in it I assume to keep it frpm like sticking to itself or something. I really need to ask these things at my next check As for weight loss, it's 32 lbs though 9 was pre op . Seems so slow compared to others . Though it has picked up recently (not this week, damn TOM!!!) -
I used to always drink soda with lunch and dinner so once I gave that up it was pretty easily. Every do often I do find myself grabbing my water bottle when I go eat though
-
If you've been working out already I think you should adjust fairly quick. I was only sore after the first 2 or 3 classes now I'm not anymore which actually bothers me a but
-
Excellent! I wear scrubs too and I know how they can fit. My hips are also my widest part, so it seems to take longer to change sizes due to that. And the top are if the tops have sometimes to much room but a smaller size won't fit over my hips
-
I was given the ok for cardio when I went for my post op check up at 9 days post op and told to wait like 2 or 3 more weeks to start with the weight machines. Every doc is different though
-
Well no one ever answered my question so I got dome new ones and see if anyone will help me this time. So I went and the doc gave me loestrin. She said it shouldn't make me gain weight or effect it at all. I've been on it 4 days now and I was supposed to get my period before I started it but could not bear another day that I wanted to vomit, so I started it early. I usually cramp like 5 days before my period and the day of gets bad then it stops. I was supposed to start it yesterday and I am still cramping (not bad). My weight is up think because I was supposed to get TOM but haven't been up like this in months only 1 lb but still. I am feeling kind of tired, is this normal when you first start bc? Has anyone taken loestrin and has it affected their weight loss? Please help!!!

Collister if your heartburn persists I would call the doc. About 10 days after I was banded I had really painful heartburn 3 days in a row in the evening nit sure why, I was about to call my doc but it never reoccured.
-
The first time I took my kickboxing class the next day I was so sore. I was at work and I was like shuffling around work because I was so sore. After the next class I felt better and even better the class after that. Just keep pushing and you'll be fine

You need to get an endoscopy as recommended by your dr. I've read your posts and what is happening to you is not right

regret city....what have i done?
Jess55 replied to brooklynn2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only bread that I absolutely love is garlic knots. Omg I love them. I only have a fill of whatever was in my band when it was placed and I can eat anything I want. Although I do try to stay away from bread when I can. Like today they brought in a hero at work. I thought about it, but was like eating all that bread is not really worth it to me, so I decided to eat the chicken I brought with me instead -
avg. weight loss after the band
Jess55 replied to Bucky Allen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Recently my average has been 1 lb per week. It is kind of disappointing to me especially since I've been doing 6 kickboxing classes a week
