When could you sleep on your belly?
Jess55 replied to sally628's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a stomach sleeper too, the first two nights in the hospital I slept on my side. (Very poorly). Since I've been home (two nights) I've been sleeping on my stomach. I will admit it is painful to get there, but once I do it doesn't really hurt (until I try to get up). But I've been sleeping a little better. I'm still sleeping poorly, but I was sleeping poorly for like 6-8 months pre op too. -
I noticed something in my approval ether today. I had surgery on Monday and stayed two nights in the hospital due to nausea. I noticed today the paperwork only preautherized me for a one night stay. Am I going to get a huge bill for the one night? Or do they usually allow the extra night? I'm so worried. I already have to pay my max out of pocket of $3500 which is a hardship for me because I still owe money from the preop stuff since it was done before January. Very worried right now

I had my sleeve on 3/6 on Monday, I stayed two nights in the hospital due to nausea. And the fact I barely was getting any fluids in. Since I've been home I've been drinking a lot better. Yesterday managed nearly 40oz crystal light (it's very diluted but I've always found this easier to drink than plain water except at the gym) and 1 premier protein 11oz drink. Took a while to drink. Today I've drank 2 premier protein drinks and like 50oz crystal light. Before surgery I was a CL drinker, over 100oz in a day. I know fluids go right through so I'm not worried about stretching or anything. But am I drinking to much to soon? I'm not really crazy wanting to drink, but I've seen so many people get dehydrated, I'm trying to avoid that. If I wanted right now, the way I feel I could probably go the whole day with nothing, but I know that's not good either. I'm taking small sips.

awesome! Thank you! Yeah I did take to big of a sip one Time and I definitely felt it. When I go back for my recheck I plan to ask my doc to show me the swallow test. I hope he can access it because I really want to see what the stomach looks like. I had revised from the band so I was worried I'd have a tougher time post op.

Well I probably won't be a ton of help. But I revised from the band to sleeve on Monday. So far I think the pain has been pretty comparable. With the band I took pain meds the first 2 days and just once on day 3 mostly due to TOM. This time I was in the hospital for 2 days post op. I think the last time I asked for pain meds is early Tuesday morning. I did have a lot of nausea post op with the sleeve. I was only supposed to stay one night, but I could barely drink anything without feeling very nauseas. I did not have nausea after the band. And I did vomit a few times in post op recovery too. I t is definitely harder to get fluids down . I currently feel like I constantly have something stuck in the back of my throat. I've been doing better drinking at home than I was doing in the hospital. My surgeon did not send me home with any pain meds (which I was surprised at, but didn't really need). And told me if I'm in pain to take Motrin or Tylenol. I do have a little of pain getting up and down, especially in and out of bed, but it's self limiting, so I wouldn't have taken meds for that anyways

2nd day Post-Op... fluid intake
Jess55 replied to ShilohD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved Monday. I spent two nights in the hospital, I was supposed to go home Tuesday, but was very nauseous so I stayed an extra night. The first day in the hospital. I'm not sure how much I drank, but it probably was only like 10-20oz of water diluted cranberry juice and a diluted protein drink. This morning before I left I probably only got in like 10oz or so. But since I got home I've managed to get down an 11oz premier protein drink and about 15 oz of crystal light. It's hard taking very little sips. But I've only been home like 5 hours. So I guess that's ok. I guess it's going to take time. I'm not hungry at all so I'm forcing myself. But the bariatric coordinator and my surgeon at my hospital made sure to drive in the fact that you have to drink in order to stay hydrated or you're going to end up in the ER for dehydration. Good luck -
I had surgery yesterday too. Immediately waking up I started vomitting and dry heaving. I was hoping to go home today but I keep getting nauseous after drinking so they're keeping me another night. I'm hoping it subsides by tomorrow

Down 50 pounds since surgery! Incision question
Jess55 replied to creatingthenewme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been sleeved yet, but I will be tomorrow! I'm converting from my band. I remember for a number of months post op doing thing like sit-ups at the gym my largest incision would twinge. A little bit of a pain not terrible, but it took a bit to go away. -
This may seem like a weird question. I've never stayed in a hospital before and I have to stay 1-2 nights after my surgery. I know hospital policies may differ but I was wondering are you allowed to put on pajama pants and maybe a shirt and bra after you're settled in your room? Because of who I am I've been thinking about this a lot. If people can let me know their experience that'd be great!

I'm on the 6th too. Revising from the band. I had multiple last meals [emoji20]. I sadly gained weight from my last visit. But I'm on day 4 of my 7 day liquid diet. I've been wanting to revise for two years. I've unfortunately gained back all my weight plus a little due to band failure. I hope things go very well for all. Now that it's 4 days away I'm starting to get a little nervous. I'm hoping I have an easy recovery. Honestly I'm not worried to much about the pain, although last time day 1 sucked, but I was off pain meds by day 3. I'm worried about having trouble getting all me fluids in. I currently drink a lot of wyler's light (similar to crystal light).

Well good news for me. I asked the nurse at my pre op appointment and she said you are allowed to wear regular clothes post op. So I'm happy about this. So I'll be sure to pack something comfortable to wear around underwear the hospital

I wish I was that lucky. I went for pre op testing and my place too wanted money up front part of it at least. I have a $3500 max out of pocket. I was hoping it wouldn't be the whole thing. Minus the $350 I've spent at my physical therapist so far it was the rest of it [emoji20]. Well I had already planned using part of my tax refund for it. But this sucks. I'm still going to have to pay it off because I still have to pay for some of the pre op stuff I had done prior to January [emoji20]

My last appointment was on February 3rd (I don't think they submitted until at least the 7th). I called up on February 21st looking to find out what was going on and they said they were still waiting for to hear from the insurance company. I called my insurance and left a message for the nurse there, and oddly I got a call later that day staying I was approved. So maybe 2 weeks from when they submitted til I heard. As for the requirements, I unfortunately had to meet the same requirements as with the band. 6 months weigh ins, Pulmonary, Cardiologist, therapist, Endoscopy, nutrition. It sucked waiting. But I was determined. Now that I've heard back yes, I am starting to get a little worried. But I know it is going to be for the best, and I'm hoping I won't have any complications and I'm one who can lead a fairly normal life with just eating less

I'm so happy! I got a call for approval for my band to sleeve revision. I couldn't be happier! Surgery is March 6th. Now comes the part I really don't want to deal with, my parents. I have not told them I was trying to get the sleeve for the last 6 months. I had found out a couple years ago that my mom had told other relatives that I had the band when I had asked her not to. I don't want her telling people again. But otherwise I can't wait!

Possibly worrying too much about how to tell others I've had VSG. What did you do?
Jess55 replied to LeaninLanc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm getting sleeved on the 6th as well! As for telling people, I'm not. I possibly might tell my friend later on, but coworkers and such no. I'm a private person. It is my business and no one else's. Although people might start to wonder at work. Especially since a coworker had bariatric surgery yesterday and she was open about it. I feel both of us losing weight at the same time may look suspicious -
Fairly Happy Band-ster considering band to sleeve revision
Jess55 replied to baileymedlin24's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
That's not true. My surgeon only has that rule for bypass patients. I asked him my last appointment when I could start taking NSAIDS post op and he said either the next day or the day after. If you're happy where you are I don't think you should undergo another surgery. I never found my green zone either and after being sick of vomiting everything up I had my band unfilled and gained 45 lb in a year before I realized I was at the same weight I was banded at. I'm having my revision to sleeve on March 6th. -
I just am very modest and don't like feeling like I'm not wearing clothes. Also I wouldn't feel comfortable walking the halls in just a gown. I really hope my hospital allows me to change. I understand why someone who is very sick in the hospital needs to wear a gown for accessibility purposes but if I'm stable post op why can't I be dressed. I guess I'll ask when I go for my pre op blood work on tuesday

What's Your Goal Weight Gift to Yourself?
Jess55 replied to Newme17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have a goal weight gift. But when I get under 200. I'm going to buy myself a deathly hallows necklace. It's not big or expensive but it's something I've wanted for a while and wouldn't let myself get until I lost weight. Hopefully in 3-4 months. Surgery March 6th! -
It's official! March 6th. Band to sleeve revision! I'm so excited
-
I'm not 100%, but I figure since my last appointment was on a Friday, and they are not there on Monday, I'm hoping it was submitted on the Tuesday. So it should hopefully been just over a week
-
Congrats!! How long did approval take? My last appointment was February 3rd I'm anxiously waiting to hear. I think if I don't hear by Friday I'm going to call. If I get denied though I'm going to be devastated.
-
I hope so! Waiting to hear back for approval for revision from band. If I get denied I'm going to have a melt down [emoji853]. Crossing my fingers really hard. Lol
-
I've had knee pain, but right now I'm having bad ankle pain. I have very flat feet. The surgeon I went to said do PT and come back in three months. I'm hoping I get approved for surgery and just some weight loss helps me. But I feel like I've done a lot of damage and surgery may be inevitable Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Sleeve with GERD?
Jess55 replied to SunshineUnicorn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was concerned about that. I do have gerd that did get better when I had a hiatal hernia repair with my band. Now I'm waiting to hear if I get approved to revise to sleeve (had my last appointment on Friday, yay). I had asked and my surgeon said it can be controlled with meds if it happens. Not that I want to be taking a PPI for the rest of my life. But maybe I won't have to and I'll b ok Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
I haven't had that problem and hope not to. I'd be so worried. I had my last of my 6 month visits today. Hope I can hear back relatively quickly of approval. So I can get this stupid band out and get the sleeve I hope everything works out and your sleeve get approved! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
