So let's talk about our lap band surgeons for a second...
Jess55 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had any problems, so honestly I can't say how my doc is in regards to that. But if a doctor won't go back to the hospital to see a post op patient with complications, that is horrible and I wouldn't want him as my doc. My doc just moved his practice however and now it seems he only sees patients 3 days a week. I guess he's in surgery the other two. -
How do you know what the lap band can handle?
Jess55 replied to amjcal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have not had anything get stuck and I'm 7 month post op, I've only PB'd once and it was on water, I was drinking to much I think. The only problem I've had is one time I was eating steamed dumplings at work and I was eating fast because it was busy and I swallowed to quickly and I felt it go down and it was sore inmy chest for a few minutes, I don't think it was stuck just slow going down. Though I only have 0.75 ccin my band, and that was when I had nothing. I have no problems at all and can eat quick if I want to. -
I guess I cant talk about it anymore!

My doc has never asked me about a fill. It wasn't til I said I was starting to get hungry 2 months ago did he say it's time. I went today, waited an hour for my appointment (I hate that that is every time when the actual appointment takes 5-10 min.). I'd lost 13# since I'd last been there two months ago. See on the slow side of losing. (I missed a month ). He was happy with my progress. He said (before I even said anything) he's not going to touch my band. So I didn't say anything. For some reason I always clam up when I'm in there. So we'll see where the next 4 weeks take me. -
What are good protein shakes?

I like the unjury brand. You can only get it online. But you have to try ones for yourself, everyone has a different taste. Plenty of people swear by one brand and it might taste horrible to you. -

Thanks! I'm going for an appointment today and I've decided I'm not going to get one. I'm going to give it another month, and see how I am. I'm probably going to tell the doc, that I'm hungry but Water seems to calm it and I don't want one. He doesn't push fills so he'll be fine with it. I probably shouldn't have gotten the first one, since I basically feel the same as when I did get the first one, but oh well. I don't lose super quick, but I'm fine with where I'm at. -
Loose skins question for those under 30 yrs olda
Jess55 replied to Origflyboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 28, I've lost 50# with the band and 115# from my highest weight. So far, my skin is bouncing back ok. I'm worried about my inner thighs though and of course my lower abdomen. My boobs have hung for as long as I can remember. When the time comes, I will definitely be getting them fixed. That's something I always promised myself. The only other thing I probably would get done is if I still have a lot of hanging skin on my lower stomach, I just would want it removed, not really a TT, just get it cut off. -
Are you taking the meds on an empty stomach? Antibiotics can make you sick if you don't take them with food. Though I guess since you've already thrown up you could just be swollen now too.

I just said this is what must do. I still would love to walk into a fast food place and get something, but for the most part once I think about the calories it's not worth it. I got myself to the point (though I wasn't at my highest, I was actually 50# below it) where I was so depressed all the time about my life, lack of friends etc, that I said I HAVE to do something. Yes, I lied through my teeth at the psych eval. Questions like do you just start crying sometimes, ever considered suicide (not sure if they asked that) those questions should have been yes, but I said no. I didn't think id be approved if I showed just how depressed I was. So I made a decision to do this and as the scale keeps going down, I feel better and better about myself

I started it a couple years prior to banding. It took a while for me to get used to it. Give it time

That is one reason I don't really want to get a fill. I had one small one two months ago (5 months post op) and am hungry again, but not crazy hungry. Water usually shuts it up for a bit. Even though I now only have 0.75 cc in my band, I'm afraid to get more because I've never gotten stuck and don't want to. I'm still losing weight fine, so not sure if I want one -
Some people just have less pain than others. I guess it depends on your pain tolerance. I felt fine (other than some soreness getting up) on day 3. First day I wanted to die, second day I probably took the pain mess twice, third day I took them once only because I got TOM and I get bad cramps, but one dose, no cramps all day and I was fine. I probably could've gone back to work by day 5 (and I'm on my feet moving and bending all day). So no, not abnormal to feel fine at one week. You will see a lot of people here are innpain longer. I don't know, maybe low pain tolerance, or maybe the way the surgeon does the surgery itself, I'm not sure. You're lucky your doc progresses you so fast. I didn't get solids til week 5

I really don't think I can do it
Jess55 replied to 18Dreamer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to make sure you are ready. Please wait if you aren't. I know I was not or wouldn't have been ready at 18. I think I just became ready to do it at 28 and I've been fat since I was 17 or 18, started really towards the end of highschool. You need to be ready to change your eating habits, be ready to exercise and have willpower. If I wasn't ready to turn my life around this would not be working for me. It's a lifelong thing you're doing. It won't be a few months and you don't have to do anything. -
The first six weeks are about healing. It's normal for you to stop losing also changing from liquids to mushies. I lost nothing weeks 2-5 post op. Been losing steadily (relatively) ever since. Also you say you have 60# to lose, don't be discouraged that you'll probably lose slower than someone with 100+ pounds to lose

7 weeks out and still can't get calories in..help!
Jess55 replied to Lakeshia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to eat 3 meals, no snacking. But since the beginning I found that I could not get in the calories that way. So I do what works for me and have a couple light snacks, usually a WW string cheese and a fiber one bar -
Not sure if you have a pre op diet or not. But if you don't, I still wouldn't go too crazy on the pig out fest. Because your liver could get really fatty and pit you at risk for them to knick it during surgery.

I was gonna say, I've tried on stuff at target and their sizes are sooo small. I won't buy any clothes there because I don't want to get the bigger sizes, even though I know they run small. I'm in a large top (occasionally XL) but I bought a light hoodie from target and it's an XL and it's still kind of tight on me. I bought it a number of months ago, and I'm pissed at myself for getting it.

No one to take care of me!
Jess55 replied to Colee85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you necessarily need to stay with someone. My mom was with me at the hospital and stayed with me a few hours after I got home, then she went home and she did come by a few hours the next day, but I didn't need her or anything. I have two dogs and was able to walk them fine and everything. So if you really want, but I was fine by myself. -
What does the "green zone" feel lke when you eat?
Jess55 replied to donricardo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think your green zone is just that YOUR zone. Everyones is different. Some people want to be so tight they can't eat much, some people want just to feel less hungry. Me I just want to feel a little less hungry between meals. In no way shape or form do I want eating to be uncomfortable. If you are uncomfortable eating, I would think you're to tight. That's just me though -
feeling teary and other things after my lap band surgery
Jess55 replied to im~starvingatm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stop! I think pasta right now is probably the worst thing you could be cheating with! Go back to your docs post op plan. If the rest of us can do it, you can too! Please, you just had this surgery and the sutures need to heal prior to you eating like that. Just so you don't feel to bad, I too cheated on like day 11 (new years eve). But I felt bad and went back to the plan. If you're truly hungry (I wasn't I just wanted it ) drink more. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm doing excellent! I've had some good looses the past couple of weeks. I think I may have figured out what works best for me. Which seems to be having a daynor two of eating under 1000 calories and the rest eating the normal 1200-1300. I have an appointment on Thursday and I'm still trying to decide if I want to get a fill. I'll talk to the doc. I am hungry between meals but I'm losing fine and don't want to run into problems, though I only have 0.75 ml in my band. Hope everyone else is doing well. -
eating as a form of enjoyment after the surgery
Jess55 replied to james42's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You can go out to eat, you'll just eat less. Last night I had a CE dinner with work. There was a buffet. I took some salad, some meat, a little pasta, and I did have a piece of bread (which I probably should have skipped. That's the first time I had a buffet dinner like that and I think I did awesome! Did not go back up. Though I did treat myself to a small piece of this pie/cake thing. I didn't like how I felt after that. So I learned I will skip that next time. But it's a learning process to know what to do. So yeah, you can go out to eat just fine. -
So just a quick back story. Banded 12/20. Had restriction for the first 4 months or so, decided to get my first fill in may. I was still losing but feeling hungrier. Though I did not give in and eat more. The fill was only 0.75 cc. Initially I felt good back to where I had been. That only lasted a week or two. I've been hungry again, again not giving in. I'm still losing, in fact last couple weeks have been really god. I've discovered if I mix a day or two of eating less than 1000 calories in during the week I lose a lot better. So my question is do I get a fill? I'm not looking for the band to tell me I can't have a piece of bread (though I don't eat it often). I want opinions if I should get it just to control the hunger. Though usually drinking a bunch of Water calms it down. And like I said even though it is there I stay within my calories.

Averaging my weight loss like that put things in perspective for me. I've been feeling like a slow loser. I subtracted my pre op diet weight loss and averaged my weight loss since surgery. I'm averaging 1.5# per week. Which made me feel ecstatic! Like you have had weeks where I lost nothing and weeks 2-5 post op I also lost nothing, but it all evens out in the end.

Pre Op Lap Band Surgery weight loss too much
Jess55 replied to dropsizes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I've heard they are supposed to go by your initial weigh in. So if you lose weight and go under a bmi of 40 they should still use the initial one. -
Anyone afraid of Failing??
Jess55 replied to amys0703's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Am I afraid of failing, yeah. But I made a decision before surgery. I was going to change my life. I was extremely depressed and I told myself do this or there is nothing left. I'm happy I did because though the band is helping me a tiny bit, I'm doing the majority of this on my own. I'm hungry but not really sure if I want a fill because I'm losing fine because I'm sticking to a way of eating I believe the reason I am sticking to it is because I've changed my mindset. I'm not doing this because my mom's garrassing me. In doing this because I want to do it, and each pound lost makes me that much happier. So am I afraid of failing a little, but it's not going to happen because I won't let it.
