December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Dave. I had looked it up online and found out about costco. I had been planning to go there to get my dogs eye meds anyways so I went today. I probably will try one tonight because I am very low on calories today. The thing about the carbs is like 29g of them comes from my fiber one bar that I have daily. (TMI warning) I have had constipation issues for many years and I've found they help a little, so I don't want to give that up, but I will cut out the other things. We'll see how this test goes. I may drink half the shake before my workout and 1/2 after. -
I'm not gonna comment on you doing your own fills, but why even bother to post that you are if you didn't want negative comments?

I've always been a sweater, not really sure if I'm sweater more, but the other day I was so annoyed I was playing tennis on my Wii and was really working to get exercise in with it and I was sweating bullets, but my HR wasn't even that high. So maybe I do sweat more now. I do feel like I get cold more, but I attribute that to less insulation...lOl

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to try dropping my carbs for a few days. Though honestly I don't feel that low low carb is sustainable for me in the long term. And since I am looking long term I didn't want to go to low. But I'm going to try. As for the protein drink, is the premeir shake good? The only one I was able to stomach so far is unjury, but it's 28g protein when made with milk. I'd rather do rtd if possible. Where'd u buy it? Ad for calories I do about 1200 calories. Recently my protein like I said is low at sometimes like around 60g. I work out 5-6 days a week, for one or more hours. Usually burning like 450-550 per hour session more if it's longer. Like I said it's my polar monitor that I'm not trusting. My bodymedia should be here soon. Thanks for the advice Dave I appreciate it, I know how well you've been doing. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Grrr.. So frusterated. I've been flip flopping anywhere between 189.6-191.6 for the last 3 weeks. The last weight I actually logged was 190.8,(I only record on Thursdays and I refuse to record higher numbers), I'm eating basically the same as I was. I'm exercising about the same. I just rejoined a gym in hopes that my body i just getting to used to kickboxing and I need to switch it up. Though, I can't seem to get my HR as high as I want it on the elliptical/bike. I'm getting so annoyed, I'd been doing so well. I guess I could get a fill, but I don't really want one, and I don't see how it will make me lose weight. I just ordered a body media fit off Amazon, and it should be here in 5 days. I hope that will help me some. I have been using a polar HR monitor, but it's like 6 years old and has been saying my HR is 00 to much lately, so I don't trust it anymore. I did do one day of proton shakes (3) and just a Fiber one bar, and string cheese. But once I ate again my weight went back to where it was. Any advice I'd appreciate it. I have been eating a bit to much carbs lately, so maybe that may be it. Try to cut that out. I usually had been staying below 100g. Also I think my Protein has been lacking some since I basically stopped eating Breakfast. For some reason even though I barely have any fill, eating a normal breakfast in the am makes me feel crappy for a couple hours and then I'm hungry. And that is even if its just a Protein Drink. So it's hard to do because I do my workouts in the morning, so going to workout feeling crappy, makes me feel, well crappier. -
I got to the point where I totally don't trust my polar HR monitor. It is like 6 years old and has been giving me false HRs or even 00 for a HR. I'm not dead! LOL. I didn't really have the money to buy a new one, so I just bought a BodyMedia fit with bluetooth, so I can use my phone with it. I can't wait for it to get here. I really hope it works as well as people say and I can do better with my weight loss. I've been stuck since I gained a pound on vacation. Edit 8/16. Got an e mail from the seller stating they made a mistake and theirs isn't bluetooth so they would refund my money if I wanted so I got my money back and I'm back to square one looking for one. I'll give eBay a few more days before I suck it up and buy it on Amazon

I bet a Bit of it is water weight. You'd have to eat 35000 extra calories for 10#, which I'm sure you didnt do. Jump back on the wagon. You can do this!

I think the most negativity comes from those who do not understand the band. Maybe they have been recently banded, or just did not have to wait to get banded. I had to do a 6 month supervised diet. I was really upset I had to do that since I had proof of diet attempts and was originally told I did not have o do it. This I think was a blessing in disguise. It gave me time, time to be on this board and read peoples experience, time to research the band further. And time to get my head on straight and realize, this is my one chance. Prior to banding I was miserable very close to suicidal, and I came to the decision of do this or die. Sorry to be so morbid, but it is true. This procedure has given me a brand new life. The research I did made me the success I am (not a fast success, but a success none the less.) I am almost 8 months post op and have only have had one tiny fill (which honestly didn't really do anything and I probably shouldn't have got in the first place. So I'm doing this with only 0.75ml in my band, but I'm losing weight, like I said maybe slower than others, but that's ok. AT this moment I seem to be plateaued a little bit, but using things that I have read, I'm not here complaining, I'm using the knowledge to try to break out of it. First I am trying to switch up the exercise, I joined a gym, instead of just doing the kickboxing that I normally do, I'm going to throw that into a mix and try to break out. If that doesn't work I'm going to try to switch up my calories, either up or down. I'm also trying to get a body media fit, to accurately monitor my calories, since I have no trust in my polar HR monitor anymore, to old and is giving me problems. So yes, people complain, but that's the nature of forums like this. If you go online and look up, let's say a restaurant, odds are a lot of the reviews will be negative. A lot of people only post a review if they've had a bad experience , not a good one. I agree a lot of the posts I see here are people complaining, and I feel like writing, well you should have done more research, but I don't want people to think I;m an ass.

Well, crap. I have a hernia.
Jess55 replied to AlanSimmons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He's not talking about a hiatal hernia, he's talking about a body wall hernia. The latter has nothing to do with a scope. Also I had a scope, but they didn't see (or they did not tell me) a hiatal hernia in me, but they found it during surgery. To the OP, I would call your surgeon. When were you banded? It could be your feeling your port, but definitely get it checked out. A woman I work with has the band and after her surgery for her slip she got a hernia and the PA did not believe it was one and it took her demanding to see the surgeon for them to finally fix it. -
I'm actually going to restart the elliptical. I used to always do it at the gym, but then I joined kickboxing and just did that instead. Now I feel like I'm needing to switch things up, so I'm rejoining the gym this morning and going to be doing elliptical first. Hopefully I can still go like I used to for 40 minutes or so at level 7. Though I'm probably gonna put the level higher today. I still remember, like others that when I first tried it initially I could barely do 5 minutes.

You have to go until your heart rate reaches a certain point. I assume if you're not used to exercising that should not be very fast for you. I was doing elliptical for years so it takes more to get my HR high, so mine was almost at a run somewhat and at a big incline. The moment my HR reached the point the girl asked if I wanted to stop and I was like YES.

Woo hoo! I now weigh less than I have in 5 years
Jess55 replied to theodoru's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Feels great doesn't it? The weight I lost pre band (not a lot, but even throughout the years), and my pre op diet, by the time I got my band every pound was a new low for me. So I am thrilled with every one. Good luck with your losses and keep working it! -
I'm 5'2", my goal right now is a normal BMI, albeit the high end. So it is 135 right now. As I get closer that may be higher or lower, not sure. I don't like the look of people who are extremely thin. Ive been fat for a long time, so I have no idea what I will look like at that weight. Only time will tell.

I would highly recommend a psychologist too, and to research the band more. The band helps with hunger. If youre eating and you're not hungry, the band really is not going to help you. The band is really not going to stop you from eating. From what I understand even at restriction you can still over eat, or just keep grazing. (I say from what I understand because I have basically no restriction, but I've changed my ways so honestly I probably could've done this without the band, had I been in the right mindset, I do have some though, because I do feel crappy if I eat to much at once). So you may want to research before jumping into this. I am not trying to talk you out of it, but I'm speaking honestly that if you think you'll just go back to eating only when you're hungry you're mistaken.

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WTG on the P90X Beergut! Not sure about the fill. I went on vacation last weekend and I seem to be up a pound and I've been kind of stuck since I got back though. I need to give myself a nudge so I'm going to do protein drinks only for the next 2 days. I'm having a problem though, since I got back basically every meal I get nauseaus after. I'm getting concerned. I have had this happen a number of years ago and a few weeks of a perscription antacid cured it. I'm going to try to go on either famotidine or omeprazole til my next doctors appointment and see if it clears up. Otherwise I'll have to talk to my doc. I'm not having heartburn or reflux, just nausea. -
Question about self image after weight loss
Jess55 replied to Damander's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's hard, but I think you'll adjust. I hated what I used to see in the mirror. Now, even though I am only halfway to my goal, I like what I see. I should say, when dressed, I still hate myself naked. I find myself dancing around the living room and looking at myself in the mirror. I feel SO much better about the way I look. -
Getting restarted (complicated story) Sorry so long!
Jess55 replied to GAJessica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say start over too. I'm not supposed to drink my calories, but. I went away for the weekend and since I've been back I've been struggling. Staying within my calories and exercising but the scale is not budging. Tomorrow and saturday I'm going back to liquids. I'm gonna have 4 protein drinks a day and that's about it. I feel this helps when I'm struggling. It's not good to do for too long. I usually lose a number of lbs but gain a little back when I eat again. I feel it just gives my body a nudge in the right direction and the scale starts moving again. -
Gossip @ work about my Lap Band surgery
Jess55 replied to crash878905's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I had my surgery I had a 2nd part time job I only worked at on Sunday's, when very few people were there. I told my manager I'd be out because I was having surgery. I did not say what kind because it's none of her business (I did tell my manager at my full time job). So when I came back my friend had td me they were speculating on wether I'd had weight loss surgery. Really! None of there business! I mean yeah, there were 2 other people there that had had it, 1 bypass, and 1 band, but still obviously if I didn't tell them it was my business. So people will talk. It sucks to deal with, but I guess since you see those people you might want to set them straight. -
decent weight loss?
Jess55 replied to Dreamalways07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't see it right away either. I had my surgery in December and I did a week pre op lost 9.8#, a week post op lost 9.2, so a total of 19#. A few days after I came back someone said to me I look like I lost weight. It felt weird. That person had no idea I had surgery (I mean any surgery). I didn't see it. Weird thing is when I started at my current job 1.5 years prior to that I weighed about, 285 or so, when I started my pre op diet I weighed 247 and no one had said anything previous about any weight loss. Maybe it's where you lose it idk. But 30# is a great accomplishment, be proud! -
The only thing that is going to be accurate is a HRM, weather it be a body bugg, body media (I want one...lol) or a polar HRM (have that). I go by that and it gives me completely different data than myfitnesspal and the machines.

It's normal. You're going from liquids to solids. It happens to most everyone. -
Green Zone Success Before First Lap Band Fill?
Jess55 replied to AlanSimmons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2.5 weeks is kind of early to tell. But if at your appointment you're still satisfied with what you're eating and still losing there is abaolutely no reason to get a fill. I went 5 months before my first fill and probably should not have even go that one. Do not let you're doc push a fill if u don't need one. You have plenty of time for fills. -
Review on Dr. Geiss Syosset NY
Jess55 replied to venisflytrap's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you don't go with him. My surgeon is Dr. Edward Cussati. Excellent surgeon and bedside manner. I'd highly reccomend him. He's in West Islip and Good Samaritan Hospital -
Food Intake Questions 101
Jess55 replied to crash878905's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You really have to think long term. I limit my carbs but in no way do I not eat them. If I want a slice of pizza I'll have it, bread I'll have it. I usually stay around 100grams or less per day. I know for me cutting them out completely is not realistic long term, and since thus is a lifestyle change for me, I look at the long term. Could I lose faster if I cut them out? Possibly, but like I said not what I want to do. And honestly I've come to beleuve slower is better in some ways. Faster weight loss can leave no room for your skin to catch up and gall bladder issues. I'm happy with how I'm doing. -
Anyone's port area hurt after sitting for long periods
Jess55 replied to hopetolose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think mine does if I sit a different way. Every so often i get a pain near it when I sit. The other day I was at the apple store getting a new computer and while I was sitting there waiting for the new OS to be installed I started having pains in my abdomen/muscle area. I was thinking I pulled something at kickboxing that morning, but basically after I got up it felt fine again. So I guess it was the way I was sitting. Also happened once at the movies. Maybe it is the way my bra was sitting on it or something, because it it a few inches below my bra line
