  1. Insulin needles are so short, I doubt there is anyway for you to accidentally hit the port. If you do somehow manage to get your insulin in your port, your glucose won't go down, but you may have a very tiny bit more amount of restriction..LOL
  2. I'm with Floridays, I'm only buying clothes as I need them. I'm not about to waste my money on so many clothes that are only going fit for a short time. And since I live in t shirts I wear the larger ones to bed. Though I'll need to go get sweatshirts soon, since I have none that fit me fo the fall/winter. Oh and jeans, since I had taken my only pair that fit and made them into cutoff shorts for the summer. Lol

    A question for the ladys

I wish mine hot thrown off from surgery! I got mine right on time 3 days post op . It was the only reason I had to take a dose of pain meds that day. A few months ago I started taking b complex and b 6 vitamins because my mom told me it would help with the severe nausea I'd been getting the day I got my period and it did but it threw off my cycle, instead of getting it every 4 weeks like clockwork like I'd been, it's now like every 5, well thus time it was like 4.5, but what sucks about that I seem to have Pms symptoms longer. Not sure which one is worse. Kind of afraid to stop taking them though because the nausea was so bad I was afraid I was going to throw up and that wouldn't be good for my band, and of course it happens when I had to work and I felt like garbage at work.

    first meal

You are supposed to be eating 3-4 oz protein, 1/2 cup veggies and if needed 1/4 cup starch. So i just put that on my plate (usually I don't do the starch though) and just it that and walk away. Nothing else. Then you will be sure youre not pushing your limit
  5. I was on clear liquids only (no protein drinks or anything) for one week post op. I wasn't hungry though, so I was fine. I was on full liquids for the second week post op.
  6. Well, like I said I've only had one tiny fill 0.75 cc. And no it wasn't a bad experience. In fact it didn't do much of anything post the first week and a half I maybe felt something. I've never had any band related issues no pb, no stuck, no slime. I don't care too. I've just decided I'd rather do this on my own. I've developed a different mindset than pre op. Do I still have some issues if there's junk like chips orchocolate out at work, yes, but the band won't help with that anyways. I kind of wish I'd gotten this mindset pre band. Alsoone reason I declined is that I already can't eat breakfast anymore which I am kind ofannoyed about. Had a protein drink this am. Also I'm trying this new thing where I'm eating a bit more to lose weight and as of right now I'm having trouble with that, so if I got a fill it'd be even harder.
  7. December 20, 2010. I had a very poor loss in the last 6 weeks. Only 4 lb. My doc wanted to give me a fill but I declined. That was the first time he ever wanted to give me a fill. The one fill I had, I asked for it.

    Calcium supplement

I take the calcium chews as well. Not viactiv, but the store brand. I take 3 a day and I do not add them to my calories. It hasn't hurt me yet.

    Calorie deficit

So first week of Bodymedia fit and increasing calories. Ate 1400 calories daily this week. Lost 1 lb. Better than nothing. I think I actually lost more, as the scale was lower for a couple of days, then I ate Chinese food and I went up, so I think it is Water weight. Also my sodium intake has been high the last few days. Also I'm PMSing. So I hope I'm actually down more. We'll see. This week I'm going to try to eat 1500 calories daily and see how that goes. My daily deficit, including exercise was usually 1400-1700, one day I had a over 1900 calorie deficit and one day I did not exercise I was almost on track at a 1064 calorie deficit. So we'll see what next week brings. I have an appointment with my doc today and I'm dreading it because I've lost a little over 4 lb in 6 weeks. I'm so disappointed in myself. I guess I will tell him, I hit a plateau but I'm overcoming it. I'm sure he'll understand. Edit: After my appointment So, my doc said he was happy with my weight loss. But I don't think he was, he wanted to give me an adjustment. I declined saying that I already feel crappy if I eat Breakfast. (I am totally not sure how he would react if I said I was purposefully eating more, so I don't want to tell him) He said well eat something tiny for breakfast like an hardboiled egg white or something, then have a small amount of fruit a few hours later. It's weird because he said I should be eating 3 meals and 2 small Snacks. This is the first time, he has EVER said anything about eating a snack. Every other time he's said 3 meals only, no snacking! Weird. But oh well, I declined the fill, because I am already having trouble getting my calories up, a fill would make that worse. I'll see next month.
  10. I just got a bodymedia fit. I've been plateaued for about 4 weeks and I'm trying to figure out why. I'm wondering what is a good deficit to aim for? And how much is to much? I'm trying to see if maybe I need to eat more or less. Today was my first day wearing it, but I don't have the complete picture yet since I apparently didn't fully charge it and it died halfway through the day. (apparently it won't charge with my laptop closed, to bad I found this out the annoying way...lol). I workout anywhere from 5-7 days a week burning a minimum of 450 calories, well see what it truly is tomorrow. I'd love to hear opinions. I'll update with my calorie deficit after a full day.

is frozen yogurt a good idea?

I've had fat free frozen yogurt as a treat every so often. Where I get it, it is like 27 calories and ounce and the small is 5 ounces. That is not bad. The great thing is, where as pre band, I'd get a large, now a small satisfies me. I also get Ralphs Italian Ices every so often too (haven't had it in a while though), that is delicious.

How much fill in a 14cc band

Everyone differs on how much they have/need in their band. So asking people isn't going to change if YOU feel if you need more. Read the thread in the post op forum about the green zone to decide if you need a fill. I personally have 0.75 ml (probably more like one with the teeny bit that was in there that the band came with.). Am I hungry between meals, yep, but I've decided to do it my own way and see what works for me. In fact I plateaued and had to start eating mor to lose, something Iay not have been able to do if my band was tight. So figure out what works for you and if you feel like you need a fill get one and don't let you're doc tell you know (unless you're pbing or vomitting or getting stuck, then please do not get one)
  13. It's probably your sternum or xyphoid process. There is no way you should be able to feel your band. Your stomach is somewhat under your ribs, so you shouldn't be able to feel it..

    Breaking the dreaded plateau

I had a three week plateau as well. I work out 5 or 6 days a week. I recently got a bdymedia fit and realized that my calorie deficit was nearing 2000 on some days. 1000 is the high end of recommended. Like I said I work out 5 or 6 days a week and I burn 500 or more calories each time. I recently learned you're supposed to eat these calories if your already at a 1000 calorie deficit, so I've bumped my calories to 1400, from 1200. I started losing immediately. I'll probably continue to increase my calories another few hundred, but slowly. BTW, I used to use a polar HRM, and now I have a body media fit, so these rent estimated burns they are real. Websites estimate to high, so be careful if you use that. So to answer, I broke through my plateau by increasing calories. I figure after 8 months at a deficit that high, my body finally decided, I'm holding onto the weight now, feed me more..LOL
  15. I know there are a few bariatric surgeons on LI. Mine is in West Islip, theres one in Syosset and one in Hewlitt. Those are the ones I know of. Not sure if any of them just take on fill patients. Also not sure where you live.

    Goal weight

I think my doc set a goal weight, but I'm not sure what it is. He always tells me I've lost whatever percent of my excess weight. So I assume he has a goal written down, but has never said as much to me. My goal right now would put me at the top of a normal BMI. I'll have to see how I feel as I get closer, since I've been overweight for my whole adult life and started gaining in my teenage years, I do not ever remember being that weight, so I have no idea what I will look like.
  17. I've been working out for many years, while trying to lose weight. But for a long time I've always felt, blah I guess I'll go to the gym. I mean I enjoyed listening to music and stuff while on the elliptical and stuff, but didn't love it. I've now gotten to the point, that I enjoy working out and find that if I don't work out I feel crappy and tired all day. I just feel lazy. On Friday, I took the day off, I usually take off Tuesday because I work in the morning and I get exhausted after work, though this past Tuesday I went to the gym, since I recently joined one that is open later. And on Friday since I didn't go, I slept in, and felt so lazy, and at work I just felt so tired and stuff. Today the gym and kickboxing were closed due to hurricane Irene so I couldn't go, and I've been feeling kind of lazy, and even took a short nap, so even though it was still drizzling and quite windy I went for an about hour long walk and just looked around to see if there was any damage and stuff. It made me much more awake. So for those of you who just feel obligated to work out, keep at it eventually you may do it just to feel better and you'll enjoy it!
  18. I think my doc does fills based on hunger, not loss. The only time a fill was discussed at any of my post op appointments was the one time I said I was hungrier often. So he gave me a tiny fill, only 0.75ml. And that didn't really do anything for my hunger. But Ive come to realize I do not want a fill. I am losing weight again (after a plateau), and I don't want to be limited in what I can or cannot eat. So unless I'm having major cravings I will not get another fill. So all I have is 0.75ml, so I consider it to be basically empty since it's not doing anything anyways

    Alcohol

Considering I hate the taste of alcohol, I'm 8 months out and haven't had a drink. But I guess that doesn't help you much...lol

    Hey Wii Zumba Users!

I may have to get the Wii Zumba. I've never done Zumba and was always felt like I'd look like an idiot and now I belong to a gym that doesn't offer any classes. Maybe I'll try it.
  21. I have to be at work at 2 until midnight, I'm packing a bag and bringing my dogs with me (work at an animal hospital, so this isn;t a problem) in case I can't get home. I think it isn't supposed to be bad at that time, so hoping I'll be able to get home and weather the storm in the comfort of my home. As for food, I got Protein shakes, I have some bread (flat-out) and Peanut Butter, not much else besides some nuts. Though I do have cooked chicken and turkey in my fridge, so I can try to thaw it somehow and eat it cold if I have to. Good luck everyone! I'm on the south shore of Long Island and if I lived about a block more south, I would have been under a mandatory evacuation. Luckily I'm not under one.

Feel free to add me. I recently switched from livestrong. I found MFP is much easier to look at. My name there is jess5825.
  23. Where do you live Tracie? I'm in Islip. If the power goes out, I'm not sure what I'll eat because most things I eat I cook. I just went to costco and got 2 cases of Protein shakes, so I guess I'll just drink those. Guess I should put them in the fridge just in case. Though if it hits saturday night, I'll be at work.
  24. I thought that the barium would taste nasty, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. Not soothing I'd drink daily, but it didn't make me want to vomit...LOL
  25. It took a week or more for my doctors office to submit it, but once they did I got approval the next day.
