I've only done that once so far. There was a pair of workout pants with the Yankees logo on it that I really liked andd they were a decent price. I got them at Marshalls so I know I wouldn't find them again. I was wearing an XL at the time, so I got them in a XL and a L. I'm happy I did because when I shrunk out of the XL, I was able to still wear them, just in the next size down. I say go for it. especially on things you can get cheaply.

your pain after surgery
Jess55 replied to Thundarump's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me the first day, I wanted to crawl in a hole and die. I was so uncomfortable. Tokk the pain meds probably every 5-6 hours. Day 2 post op, felt so much better, still painful, but took pain meds probably 3 times or so. Day 3 I was uncomfortable, but not crazy painful, I took th pain meds once, and that was because I got TOM and I got bad cramps, but that one dose knocked them out for good. After that dose, I may have taken liquid tyelonol a couple times within the next couple days, but I had minimal pain. Getting up was sore and getting out of bed, but no pain meds needed. -
Houston I have a problem!!!!!!!
Jess55 replied to RosyG72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't see why they would want to do an endoscopy if your port area is red and inflamed it's more than likely an infection and there would be no need for an endoscopy. I guess unless they're worried about a deeper infection, but without the doc even seeing you there would be no reason to think that. -
Carbonated Drinks
Jess55 replied to FinallyFree0812's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I/ quit drinking soda (Diet Coke) a couple months before surgery. I kept not drinking it for a while after, now I've begun having it a couple times a week again. Though I now dislike the taste of canned/bottled diet coke and the only time I'll drink it is when it is a fountain drink. -
7 days and I have a physical job

Anybody else with a really active job?
Jess55 replied to Alli in StL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm a LVT (a nurse for animals), I'm on my feet 10 hour shifts, bending into cages, lifting animals, etc. I went back after 7 days, I felt I could've gone back sooner. I even dug my car out of under a foot of snow to get there. Though I avoided lifting animals over 25# for the next 2.5 weeks. Also the way my schedule is, I worked one day then was off for 2 more. I could've continued to work if my schedule worked that way though. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry to hear that Joan, hope your surgery goes well. As for me, I'm still having some issues. Scale is not moving. So time to change things up a bit. I had a talk with one of the trainers at my kickboxing place (she does not know about my band, but I have a very tiny fill, so I really have no restrictions) she recommended eating some carbs, rule is they have to have 3 grams of fiber or more. mulit grain and whole grains. WHich I have very rarely eaten since banding. WHat I'm doing right now is not working, so mine as well. She also went over this program that they do called "train for failure" which is 5 machines and you lift heavy until your muscles give out it is only one time per week, and she says it really reduces body fat. So as of right now I'm not going to concentrate on the scale, only on body fat. Which may not be good for when I go back to my doc, but if it works for me, whatever. She said not to count calories, just eat 6 meals a day, no carbs 3 hours before bed, or before a workout. She also recommended drinking 2 ice cold glasses of water right when waking up. And Apple Cider Vinegar, I'm going to use it in tablet form since I don't think I'd be able to drink it and she was fine with that. As for the weights, I'm going to try it myself, but if I find I can't push myself enough, I'll probably sign up for their 10 week program, but it's $175 which I don't really have right now. So that's how I'm doing. I'm going to avoid the scale for a little bit. I think it might be stressing me out. Actually she told me to get it out of the house, but I'm not ready for that. Though I have not weighed in like 5 days, so that's a start. -
A friend of mine turned me on to it, and I got it at Target actually. I haven't really looked in the grocery store, but it's probably there I would think. Also just started eating Fiber one Cereal mixed into fat free yogurt too.
-
I just started snacking on edamame. High protein and high fiber. Very good for you. Otherwise I've been doing nuts and low fat sting cheese.

The first 6 weeks are about healing, not weight lost. Going back to shakes and stuff is not really going to help. You should continue moving forward (unless you're having problems and can't handle mushies), You're not going to stay on shakes forever. After my initial post op check up, I had a visit 4 weeks after, and I had only lost 2 lb, and that was in the last week. As for the exercise, the sooner you start the better. I started 2 weeks post op, but I'd been going to the gym for many years already so I wasn't just starting.

Good idea! I didn't even think of that. I'll definitely look into it.

Personally, my doc says the no ibuprofen rule is really for bypass patients and he has no problem with me taking it.

Congrats Shirley! I'm with you, I have NO winter clothes that fit, since I was banded in December this is my first winter that I'm smaller. My sister got me this beautiful coat last year for my birthday (she didn't know about me getting surgery then) and it was snug on me. I tried it on and it is to big . Kind of sad about it in a way because it's a beautiful coat and I would've loved to wear it and I got so little use out of it because it was a bit snug and I didn't like the way it looked when I zipped it. Oh well, I'll have to find one like it

I agree, I was going to start a liquid diet today to try to jump start my loss, but I had a holiday dinner last night and ate way more than I should've and I stepped on the scale this morning so I'd know how bad that effected me and where I was starting with the liquid diet and the scale was 0.8 lb down from where it was yesterday (though that is still up from my low weight), but I said ok, I'm giving it one more day of eating higher calories. And if I'm down tomorrow, or the same, I may stick with it before I do liquids.

What is your favorite workout routine &/or DVD
Jess55 replied to Martha78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like kickboxing. I go to that 4-5 times per week. I do the gym 1-2 and do the elliptical there and then do weights, and occasionally I'll do a short stint on the recumbant bike. I did google turbo jam last week and it loos pretty fun, I've been debating getting it. -
Thee-o, I'm in agreement with you, I'm going with the behavior modification route. I did get one fill, but it was so tiny 0.75cc, that I consider my band to be empty anyways. I've been struggling the last 2 months and am at a plateau, my doc wanted to give me a fill, but I'm still eating the right way, so what the heck is a fill going to do?? I declined it. I don't want to go back now, since I'm still at my plateau and I don't want him to want to give me a fill again. I'm actually thinking of finding a dietitian and see if a few sessions with them can direct me what to do different. As for why I had the surgery, I was very depressed and needed to do something and I feel the surgery gave me the kick in the # to do something. I realized I do not want to never eat bread again, I want to be able to eat everything in moderation. The band does give me restriction if I eat to much, makes me feel bad. I've actually regretted getting the surgery lately. I want to do this with just a lifestyle change and exercise (which I've come to look forward to). I do need to figure out how to break this plateau though, it is making me so depressed, even more so that now there is no chance of hitting my goal for my sisters wedding. I do think staying at 1200 calories only for the past 8 months killed my metabolism and I'm pissed that I did that. I work out 6 days a week, burning 450-500 or more calories per session.

Well, scale is up today (I had stayed off for 2 days), I am so depressed, though I did eat a little bit I shouldn't the last 2 days. But I'm gonna start a liquid diet tomorrow. I usually just do the shakes because, I hate pudding, and I dislike jello. Maybe I'll eat some egg drop Soup though, and perhaps get a little yogurt. Gonna start tomorrow, since I'm going to Rosh Hashanna dinner tonight. I'm gonna try for 3 days at least. TMI-maybe it will relieve my constipation for now.
-
Just curious, doing a liquid diet, I had just gone with like 4 shakes a day. But I've found to little calories and I don't lose. Well, on the liquid I do, but then once I eat real food, it comes right back. should I do my full calorie allotment in liquids?
-
Fayfay, I too was banded in December and am struggling right now. I'm still doing all the right things, but fighting with the scale. I bumped my calories up the scale went down, but now struggling again. Last appointment my dic wanted to give me a fill. I don't want one. I've been debating doing liquids for a few days, but last time I did I felt it was harder than pre and post op. I may just suck it up after weigh in tomorrow though
-
I believe in it. How the heck can your body function on no calories. Which is what your body is getting if you're eating only 300-600 calories and working out. I was a skeptic at first, I was only eating 1200 and working out 6 days a week. I hit a plateau and I bumped my calories up and started losing again. But now I'm having issues again.
-
I'm 9 months out and the scale and I have been at war lately and i'm getting so depressed. SO I was like WTH, let me try a cheat day (i actually don't really limit myself to what I can and can't eat, I just count calories and keep my Protein up), but on Thursday I have been craving chicken tenders and waffle fries for ages, but kept myself away, but I had them on Thursday and had a really high calorie day 2500 calories. According to my body media fit, I still had a 720 calorie deficit for the day. Made surer I went to both the gym and kickboxing. I was hoping it would kick my metabolism into high gear. But nope, the scale still hates me and I'm getting more and more depressed.

I've had a Body Media Fit for a month now. I love it, and it showed me I wasn't eating nearly enough and I was killing my metabolism.

What about your bras?
Jess55 replied to Tired of being Tired's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had to buy a few sets of new bras already. And I just got new sports bras and I got a D cup!!! I'm so happy I hated having DD's!! May sound silly to some. I still need to get smaller everyday bras, but I can still get away with the ones I have for a little longer. But maybe I will check out Fashion Bug on my next day off. -
First fill/starting to exercise?
Jess55 replied to K1SM3T's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure about the fill, I didn't get one til 5 months. For exercise, at my post op at 9 days, I was given the ok for cardio, but to wait 3 more weeks for weights. -
just had gallbladder removed had complications...WOULD YOU STILL GET BANDED???
Jess55 replied to LessyAudra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, complications do arise. I work at an specialty/emergency veterinary hospital and I know of at least 2 cases where the surgeons have had to go back in on a cholycystectomy (gall bladder removal) because of a leak. So it is a complication that can happen. So it sucks that you were one that had it happen, but it can happen. As for your liver, well if you do a pre op diet to shrink your liver, hopefully that won't happen. The decision to go forward is up to you, but if you are truly ready to change your life, go for it.
