For the first 8 months I did not eat them. Then my weight loss plateaued. After talking with people I started upping my calories until I was eating mostly all of them. I gained like a lb at first then stayed plateaued for 6 weeks then it started coming off again. I workout 6 days a week and burn 500-800 calories or more (per my bmf) per session and per my bmf burn over 3000 calories per day 1200 calories was just not sustaining me anymore.

Gaining Weight..had Lap Band for a year...help!!
Jess55 replied to malf's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did have a tiny fill, only 0.75cc at 5 months post op. But I've decided to do this with basically just diet and exercise. The band gave me the kick and the motivation to do something about my weight, but I'm doing this on my own (for the most part), yes I get hungry between meals, so I'm not in the green zone. But I've chosen this. Last time I went to the doc my weight loss had and still has slow down and he wanted to give me a fill, but I declined. I knew what I needed to do to change things up, and I'm still losing. Would I like to lose the weight all at once, sure, but I'm losing and that's all I care about. Personally IMO I feel if you lose it fast you are more likely to put it back on and you have not had time to thoroughly change your habits so when you go to maintenance down the road you're gonna start slipping back to your old ways. That's just my opinion though. -

Not Losing On Scale But Clothing Much Bigger....can I Be Losing?
Jess55 replied to lisa123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually muscle does not weigh more than fat. A pound equals a pound. It is just that more muscle will take up the same amount of space that fat will take up. Muscle is small in size, so if you lose one pound of fat and it gets taken up by one pound of muscle it will look smaller, but it will weigh the same. -
How Long Was Your Lap Band Surgery Hospital Stay?
Jess55 replied to Lanie M's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was there for about 7 hours. My doc said I'd only have to stay overnight if for some reason he had to convert to an open procedure. -
Getting Everything In Order To Have Lap Band Surgery..need Advice
Jess55 replied to littlerlou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call your surgeons office and ask if there is someone that they use. My doc had given me a list of requirements and under the psych and nutrition areas were a couple choices that they recommended. Since the psych had worked with the surgeon before he knew what was required. If they've never done a eval for a surgery before they probably are not sure what is needed -
Not Losing On Scale But Clothing Much Bigger....can I Be Losing?
Jess55 replied to lisa123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're working out, then most definitely you can be losing inches and not weight. I think I've lost more size than the scale says weight wise. I had two people at work say I look thinner even though the scale hasn't moved in three weeks. Also weight wise I feel I haven't lost enough to be down another size but my large scrubs are falling off me (waiting for my mediums to come in). I still have 45 lbs to get to a normal bmi but no one believes me because I'm much smaller size wise. I've lost 67 lb and gone from a 24 jeans to a 12. I workout 6 days a week so I know that my body is changing and doing weights once a week is helping inches even though the scale isn't moving. -
Has Anyone Else Experiened This?
Jess55 replied to sheila8459's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're having reflux and regurgitating. I think you should get a slight unfill. I would think you're to tight and risking damage to yourself and your band. -
I understand that, my weight loss has slowed way down too and it's getting kind of annoying. It's to the point I don't haven't been to my doc in 2-3 months, because last time he was there he wanted to give me a fill, which I do not want. My weight los now seems to come in spurts. I'll plateau (last one was 7 weeks!), then I'll lose for 2 weeks, (which equaled 4.2 lb), now I've been plateaued again for the past 2 weeks (TOM right now, hope it drops when it's over). But it's really annoying. I work out 6 days a week, burning anywhere from 500-almost 900 calories sometimes. I have a daily deficit of a minimum of 1000 calories. Which should equal 2 lb per week, but it doesn't. I know my exact deficits and burns thanks to my Bodymeda Fit. So it is really annoying. Last time I broke the plateau, I thought that was it, I'd finally figured it out, but nope, I guess this is just what my body is going to do now. Oh and I don't plateau at my lowest weight, I plateau a little above it. (ThoughI don't count that, I only count my lows) But it is really discouraging!

Chocolates going to go down easy whatever amount of fill you have. It's a slider food. So.woth that you just have to use good old fashioned will power!

In the past, I would have binged, but not anymore, so now, I will go to the gym or kickboxing and work my stress out. I feel so much better when I do. Unfortunately I still have A LOT of trouble controlling myself when there is junk food around at work. That is something I have to work on.

How Long Were You Off Work After Lap Band Surgery?
Jess55 replied to oliversmomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a physical job. On my feet 10 hour shifts. Bending, lifting (only let myself lift up to 20 lb til 3.5 weeks post op). I'm an LVT. I took one week off, but felt I could've gone back by day 5 -
I'd not set a goal, but just work on good habits. A lot of people don't lose weight during this time. I was up and down like 2 lbs weeks 2-4. Finally started losing week 5. So if you are like this, you'll only set yourself up for disappointment.

Lapband With Plication 6 Weeks Post Op Cant Get Enough Calories
Jess55 replied to steelerfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand the inches but no pounds. I'm 11 months post op and for the past 3 months or so weight loss has been really slow. I plateau for a number of weeks, drop a like 4 or 5 pounds in 2 weeks, then plateau again. I work out 6 days a week and I'm still losing inches. So I know I'm still doing right, but it's annoying. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jess55 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Starting fresh today. I let myself indulge for thanksgiving. I didn't have a problem doing that after all it's just one day, and as I tell my mom, I'm not considering myself on a diet, I'm on a lifestyle change. So I really can't relate to those who tried to stay within their calories on thanksgiving. Problem is leftover desserts at work and stuff. I'm off today, so hopefully Monday they'll be gone and I can go back to my normal routine, I gave into them to much. So back to my normal self today. My weight loss has kind of become annoying, I seem to stay the same for a few weeks, then drop for 2 weeks, then plateau again. But inches are still coming off, so my body's changing still so I'm good with that. It's just kind of frustrating with the scale. My goal though is at least for a 70lb loss by Dec 13th, (The day I started my pre op diet). That will mean, I lose 3 times faster than I did with Jenny Craig. I lose 70 lb in 3 years with them. So I'll be happy. Would it have been cool to have a 100 lb loss? Sure, but I'm happy with my progress and I can't go comparing to others. Looks like we're all doing well. You jump back on the wagon Heather, I know you can do it. Start fresh with liquids if you have to. Go to a support group if there's one by you. -
Ibruprofen Or Other Anti-inflammatories After Lap Band Surgery?
Jess55 replied to Annfargo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doc told me that the no Ibuprofen rule was mainly for bypass patients, and has not problem with me taking it. At the time I asked him, I was so glad because I'd hurt my shoulder and it was going on weeks with no resolve, so I was so grateful to be able to take an antiinflammatory. Only took a few days after that to resolve. -
176 Pound Loss Possible?? Oh How I Pray It Is!
Jess55 replied to Joel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There are many who have done it. Also you have being a male in your favor. They lose quicker and possibly easier than females. I know you can do it. Good Luck! -
I would let yourself heal for a bit before you play, if it is kind of with contact and stuff, but I see absolutely no reason not to play. If my having surgery ever kept me from doing something I'd be like, take this out please. Not sure when but I plan to join a martial arts some time and if I'm sparring or something and I get kicked in the abdomen, I'm sure the lap band won't care, but my port is easily felt and it might end up twinging a bit, but I'm not gonna care because I'm happy now.
-
First off, one week of not weight loss is not a plateau. Secondly, I saw you had surgery 11/11. The first six weeks are not about weight loss, but about healing. It is quite normal not to lose weight during that time. I lost and gained the same 2 pounds over weeks 2-5 post op. Your body is trying to heal itself from the surgery. And I assume your caloric intake is minimal right now. I cannot lose weight on a very low calorie diet. Week 6 I had finally got my intake up to 1100-1200 and that's when I started losing again. Have patience and the scale will move.

Not Taking In Enough Calories.
Jess55 replied to angbutler0712's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first week post op, I had maybe 200-300 calories per day, with maybe 25 grams protein, second week, was better maybe 600-700 calories with maybe 50-60 grams protein. So each week got better. It took me 5 weeks to get back up to 1200 calories and once I did the weight started coming off again. I can't seem to lose at to low of calories. So just give it time. -
I started dieting back in 2005. After losing like 40 lb, I started going to they gym. I liked it a teeny bit if I tried hard enough, but never really loved it. This time since I've started losing well, I've found kickboxing which I love (though at some point I may switch to some form of karate or some martial arts), I also like the elliptical. I now feel like crap if I don't have my morning workout. (Which I think is why I get so tired on Tuesdays, when I work mornings and take the day off from working out). You do not gain muscle from cardio, but you may see your weight go up a little, from retaining Water in your muscles. I know in the past if I've taken some time off from the gym, I'll see a larger drop in the scale. Though I now enjoy my workouts to much to care, and I know with my workouts, hopefully I'm just going to be losing fat and not a lot of muscle. If you don't workout you run the risk of losing muscle mass as well. So you may see a larger drop in the scale, but odds are that is not all fat. You say when you've worked out in the past you haven't lost weight. It is possible you may have been putting yourself in to large of a calorie deficit and (shock) you may need to eat more. But you won't gain weight in actual muscle unless you don't eat at a deficit and lift heavy weights. You are NOT going to gain muscle on the treadmill or elliptical.

Hernia Same Time As Lap Band Surgery ?
Jess55 replied to acenangel11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm guessing you're talking about a hiatal hernia? I had a hiatal hernia too. By day 3 I felt pretty good. I went out shopping, though after being out for like 2 hours I started to feel a bit nauseas, but nothing crazy. Make sure to get a scopolamine patch, they put one on me prior to surgery and I had no issues with nauseas while I had it on (I've heard other people have gotten real nauseas post op). Though I did have trouble focusing my eyes while it was on. I went back to work as an LVT 7 days post op and I felt pretty good except for when I was bending down, I was sore. As for knowing if the recovery was harder, I doubt it, but since I never had a lap band surgery before I wouldn't know. And anyone who says it's harder is just stating their opinion, since they hadn't had lap band surgery before either.
