Ok, this question is really for my hubby. We've always slept with the a/c on 68, ceiling fan on, one blanket. I've always been a hot person all year long. Well since the surgery 3 weeks ago...I'm FREEEEEEEZING! I have to have an extra blanket, socks, flannel pjs, and sometimes a sweatshirt! We are fighting over the setting of the ceiling fan now. LOL!! He wants to know what in the world is wrong with me. I'm in Florida..it's always pretty mild, but this month has been pretty cold so far. Well..the lowest has been in the 20's, but I'm blaming it on the weather. What do you think?? Has anyone else experienced this?? Thanks!!

1st day of pre-surgery liquid diet... will I make it?
waitingtiljan replied to ChrissyB's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I also did the 2 weeks of liquids..Optifast 5 times a day. It was very hard in the beginning. After the 3rd/4th day..I was ok with it. Then at a week..I started having second thoughts. It didn't help that I had to go to a bday party with Spaghetti and Pizza. It didn't help that I had to cook for my family. And it really didn't help when my hubby ordered a pizza!! LOL I cried a few times...it was the hardest thing I've ever done besides the 2 week post op diet of broth. It's just that withdrawal from real food. I missed it. But I had a lot of heart to heart talks with my hubby because I kept wanting to just quit. He kept me going and talked me right back into sticking to that liquid diet. He even promised to not order anymore pizza until I was on real food. LOL!!! The best part is...time went by and now I'm off that phase of the diet. It's hard, but you can do it!! -
One Week to Go
waitingtiljan replied to heartsmile4_1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way. After the first week on the liquid diet..I was questioning the surgery like crazy. I'd sit and talk with my hubby and try to figure out a better solution rather than surgery. That liquid diet was making me crazy! LOL!! I was on it for 2 weeks...it was awful! I would tell him..nope..I can't do this! I'd be fine the next day. Now it's been almost 4 weeks since I was banded and I'm so glad I did it. Those first weeks preop and 2 weeks po-op were the hardest. It was only hard because I got so tired of broth. Now I'm a very happy girl on full liquids and more variety. I'm hoping it will only get better. I'm so happy I did this! Good luck to you! -
One more day...........
waitingtiljan replied to gretchens4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll be fine Gretchen!! My only advice is to get help with the kids. I was lucky enough to have my mom keep them for 5 days. I couldn't imagine having to take care of someone else after my surgery. It was a little rough the first 3 days..but it only got better. It was just the getting up and sitting down part. It was nice just to be able to sit around and not have to worry about anyone else for a change. Let us know how you are doing after surgery! -
Did anyone else go through the blah stage?? I'm almost 4 weeks post op and feeling so icky. I don't want to say depressed, because I don't think it's that. I'm not really missing food too much. I haven't lost a pound since my 2 week appt. I'm on full liquid now and I'm pretty happy with what I can eat. I'm yelling at my kids, have nothing to say to my hubby. Everything is just so BLAH! Does that make sense??? The doctor said I could just be retaining water..that's why I'm not losing now. I don't have a fill for 2 more weeks. Could it be that I'm just stuck..not losing now, so it's no fun?? How do I get out of the dulldrums!!??? UGHHHHH:notagree

Why am I SOOOO COLD??
waitingtiljan replied to waitingtiljan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well now it makes more sense to me!! Hubby was on me to call my doctor..thinking I must be sick!! LOL The "less calories in" makes a lot of sense to me. My body must be working less??? Now if I could just get my hubby to lose a little weight with me...think how cheap our electric bill would be!!! LOL!! Thanks for your input guys. -
Full liquids...should I gain weight?
waitingtiljan posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Jan 30th...I just got on full liquids this past Tuesday. So what I'm eating is 1/2 c grits and V8 for breakfast. 1/2 to 1 cup creamed soup for lunch. Yogurt for a snack. Then 1/2 to 1 cup creamed soup for dinner. I drink Crystal lite, V8 and water all day long. I lost 19 pounds the 2 weeks after surgery. 27 total 2 weeks before and after surgery. I've gained 8 pounds back. Is this normal? Is it water?? What is it?? On the paper the doctor gave me, it listed all these foods and then for calorie intake it says 1700 a day!! I'm no where near that! Why have I gained? I'm not stressing because I know this isn't the time to lose, but why so much gain??? Thanks! -
Just banded 2/15
waitingtiljan replied to shelley00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes..I was only able to get down 1 oz an hour at first. Very small amounts of any liquid. I wasn't hungry at all, but did try to get in the water. -
Full liquids...should I gain weight?
waitingtiljan replied to waitingtiljan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It just worries me. I'm not eating high calorie Soups or drinking anything with sugar. Ughh....I guess I can't expect anything until a fill! Thanks! I'm in Brooksville. I went to Dr. G in Zephyrhills. -
Four days until surgery no period, but four negative preggo test
waitingtiljan replied to ari's topic in The Gals' Room
Oh wow..how stressful! The did a pregnancy test for me right before I went into surgery..that morning. Hopefully you'll know before your surgery. I'm sure you are right...just thinking about the surgery was stressful for me too. I hope everything works out ok!!! Good luck -
I had surgery on Jan 30th and my port incision still hasn't healed. It's actuall more open now and has this yellowish stuff inside. My doctor put me on antibiotics 3 times a day. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm so worried about it. I've heard some horror stories where it hasn't healed for months!! Can someone please ease my mind? Were you on antibiotics and it healed right up?? I don't get it wet anymore and don't put bandaids on it because it just makes it wetter looking. I was just taking showers..no soaking. He said that was ok. I just need to know if anyone else had this happen and did it heal ok for you. Thanks!!!

I am the happiest person today!! After 2 weeks of nothing but Clear liquids, I'm on to full liquids!!! I can have oatmeal, grits, any Soup pureed, yogurt and frozen yogurt! I know that's nothing exciting, but that broth was making me crazy mad:angry ! LOL!! I was so good on that liquid diet, but it was really awful. I lost 19 pounds since surgery 2 weeks ago. 27 since I started the 2 week liquid preop diet. I'm happy with the weight loss. But I'm even happier I can have something to eat with some texture! Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:clap2: . Hopefully I'll get some kind of energy back. My hubby says I've been walking around here like my puppy just died or something. LOL! Just wanted to scream it to ya'll...I feel like it's Christmas. hehehe!!

6 days of liquids and ready to snap
waitingtiljan replied to skinnyrebal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh girl..I know exactly what you are feeling! I just got off 2 weeks of nothing but clear..broth, popsicles, and crystal light. I did call my doc about 8 days into it and asked for some cream Soup. She told me that she couldn't tell me what to eat, but that I was on the clear for a reason...to heal. My stomach could spasm and cause a slip. That's all I needed to hear. I stuck to the clears for the full 2 weeks. I cried, I whined, I felt like the life had been sucked out of me!!!! I had no energy..I went to bed early, I took naps...anything to make the day go by faster. The 12th day I chewed up a piece of pizza and spit it out. LOL!! I made it though..I swear it was the worst thing I went through. Now I'm onto thick liquids..soups pureed, pudding, yogurt, grits, oatmeal, V8! I feel like a new person. Hang in there...it will pass and you will be so happy you stuck to it. I lost 19 pounds in those 2 weeks too!! You can do it!! -
Life is GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!
waitingtiljan replied to waitingtiljan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh..I'm telling you..blended up soup is like GOLD! It's my "pizza"! LOL!! I really thought I was just going to die if I had to have one more cup of broth. Not to mention, my energy level was a big nothing. I can't imagine how excited I'll be when I move to mushies. Woohooo!!! It's the little things I guess. Now..off to puree something! -
I have some really sharp pains in my shoulder and chest. Is that gas? I'm 13 days post op and really thought I was over the gas a week ago. I haven't had any gas pains for a week and now this. OUCH! Is it gas? Thanks for your help!

Please tell me how to find the strength to get through another week of clear liquids!! I was banded Jan 30th and I've been on a clear diet for a week now. I was on Optifast 2 weeks prior to surgery. I'm having ups and downs with hunger, but I'm just so weak and so tired. I have no energy to do anything. I'm probably getting at the most 200 cals a day and virtually no Protein. I'm losing a pound a day which is great. But I've got 3 kids to run after and all I want to do is sit. I just can't imagine another week of broth. I know I have to do it, but it's making me "not very nice" LOL!! How did you do it..for those who had to do 2 weeks of clears?? Sorry for the whine:faint:

I had my consult on Jan 17th..had my surgery on Jan 30th. It was pretty quick! Good luck!
-
My doctor has me on 1 oz an hour of clear liquids for 2 weeks. That's ok right? I had surgery on Jan 30 and I'm not hungry at all. Did anyone else have to do this? I'm not complaining..I don't want anymore, I just want to make sure I'm getting enough fluids. What do you think?

Banded yesterday..lots of questions
waitingtiljan posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! Well I was banded yesterday (Jan 30) and SOOO happy it's finally done. I have some questions for you guys and was hoping you could tell me what you think. I was soo prepared to have tons of gas and pain from the gas, but so far..it hasn't been bad at all as far as gas. My gut is the worst...very very sore and it's hard to get up and down. I feel like I have to hold on to it or it will somehow fall off..LOL!! I have a sore throat and it's like I want to cough something up, but it's too hard to cough. Is this all normal after surgery? I just want to make sure everything SOUNDS normal to most people. I'm supposed to drink 1 oz every hour. Does that mean broth too? I forgot to ask, but will call the office today to make sure. I'm not really hungry at all, but I just don't want to get weak. What about popsicles...is it too soon for those? My throat would love one! Oh, and yesterday I took my tylenol and drank 1 oz water with it, then 10 minutes later my hubby said I should try some gatorade and I drank 1 oz of that. I think that was TOO much because I got this pain right underneath my breastbone that took about 20 min to go away. Was it just too much? Sorry for all the questions...I just want to do this right and would love your experiences after surgery. Thanks!! Stacy -
Recovery Time??
waitingtiljan replied to SeeMeBeMe2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery Tuesday (1/30) and today I'm just feeling up to doing things around the house. My worst day was the day after..lots of soreness and my neck and back were hurting. Today I had a shower, did lots of walking around the house and it's much easier for me to get up and down. I wasn't really prepared for the "gut" pain I would have. I was so focused on the gas pain, but only had a day of that. The worst part for me has been trying to get out of bed and sitting up and down. By tomorrow I think I'll be up to pretty much anything which will be 3 full days of recovery! I'd say it's a breeze after day 2!! Good luck to you with your surgery. Stacy -
Banded yesterday..lots of questions
waitingtiljan replied to waitingtiljan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys!! I appreciate your replies. I'm much better this morning..just a lot of neck stiffness and gut pain. Not much gas at all. Well none really. I was happy about that!! I'm going to try a popsicle for my throat..it's pretty sore. I will really watch how much I drink and when. I know I'll feel better next week! Thanks for your help! I so appreciate it! Stacy -
OMG...I'm on day 2 of Optifast! Oh boy..the things that are running through my head. I want spaghetti and pizza like NOW! I start talking myself out of this surgery because I feel like I'll never get to eat again. I will won't I???? I want this surgery so bad. My date is Jan 30th, but wow...11 more days of Optifast is going to drive me nuts!! Did anyone else have feelings like this before surgery??? How did you get through the liquid prediet?? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! I hope I don't get too grumpy! :phanvan

Hard Time With Pre Op Diet
waitingtiljan replied to JVONHANDORF's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also finding this 2 week liquid diet so hard!!! And what's worse..my husband would kill me if I even tried to cheat. I'm mad, I'm grumpy and this face hasn't smiled at all since!! I'm not hungry, I'm not full, but I just want food. I know it's just boredom, but I still want it. I can't stop thinking about it. I keep having the urges to call the doctor and postponing just one more week. I wish I could have had a week of all my favorite meals. I went to my consult on the 17th..he put me on optifast starting that afternoon. I know one last meal wouldn't have made me THAT happy, but I really wish I would have had it. I know I don't need it..I've enjoyed food for way too long and it's time to change. My mind thinks differently of course. I'm hoping this withdrawl and mourning stage will end soon. I feel like everyday I go back and forth ..should I or shouldn't I have this surgery? I even cried today while I was heating my broth and cooking the rest of the family a yummy dinner. And talk about creative?? I always hated cooking!! NOW I'm making up the yummiest recipes and everyone is loving me! UGHHHH Things just seem really boring now..no meals to look forward to, nothing to snack on at night..I've got to find something to fill my time I guess. I refuse to let ME talk ME out of having this surgery. I need the help!! The best thing for me is to look at the before and after pics when I feel like I'm starving to death. It helps sooo much! It's just really tough going through with a liquid diet for 2 weeks when I've never done it before. I will do it...I'll just be a little crazy while I'm doing it. teehee!! Sorry for the whine. -
This is SOOOO hard!!
waitingtiljan replied to waitingtiljan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for helping me see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This liquid diet makes you a little goofy if you ask me!! LOL Lots of headaches today..I really hope by day 3 or 4 I'm over that. And PLEASE someone tell Directv to take the food network off of my tvs!! It's so fun to watch, but jeez..not on Optifast!! I can do it!!!
