Pregnant with my band
MelissaGreen replied to Pittsburgher's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
For Yvonne74, I had gallbladder issues with both my pregnancies, both were band babies. I just got my gallbladder removed a month ago, my 2nd child is now 5 months old. If you don't have gallstones you can wait to get your gallbladder removed. It won't harm your baby, you just need to watch your diet no fatty or fried foods because that's what triggers a gallbladder attach. Unfortunately one of the side affects of having a lap band is gallbladder problems it stops functioning for some of us. Look up gallbladder disease diets it will help you to know what foods to avoid. Gallbladder attacks are no fun, and painful I was in the hospital with every one. Good luck -

Pregnant with my band

I too took nausea pills while pregnant, it was fine with my band Dr., but the nausea pills really didn't work for me so I stopped taking them, and lived off of ginger chews. You can find them in any health food store, they also have ginger suckers. -

Pregnant with my band
MelissaGreen replied to Pittsburgher's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I have had two babies since I was banded in 2010, and with each of them I had half my fill removed. The reason for my partial fill removal was that I had such bad morning sickness, but I was to stubborn to get it all taken out. The more my belly grew the tighter my band got on its own, so it was like I had just gotten a fill. Now I didn't lose any weight while I was pregnant but I didn't gain any either. I breastfeed both my girls, and I am currently breastfeeding. I just have to make sure I am drinking LOTS of Fluid or I have hardly any milk, and I have to snack constantly throughout the day or I get super lightheaded. But if your Dr. wants to remove all or some of the fill I would recommend it, you can always get back on track after having your baby, it's better to be safe than sorry you don't want to loose your band due to a slip. -

Morning Sickness and the Band
MelissaGreen replied to MelissaGreen's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks for the reply, I didn't think you could take any kind of meds when you were pregnant I guess I need to go see a doctor . I have contacted my doc but he hasn't returned my call yet. Thank again to both of you. Melissa -
Hello everyone, I am writing this post because I need support from women going through the same thing as me right now. This is my story, I was banded in June of 2010, so just 6 months ago. I am down 60lbs and still have 80lbs to go WOOT WOOT!!! 4 months ago I had to have my Mirena (birth control) taken out do to it embedding into my cervics and causing sever infections. My doctor advised me not to go back onto birth control right away, he wanted my system to be able to calm down and in 3 months I would start a new birth control. My husband and I have been using condoms, and guess what I got pregnant we must have fallen into that 1% catagory. This will be our first child, and I am scared espescially since I only had surgery 6 months ago, and I was told by my doctor that you are to wait for over a YEAR. Children were not in my future anytime soon I wanted to get down to my goal wait, I wanted my husband to finish college, my carrer has just started for me I was just made a partner in our office things were moving forward for us. Now dont get me wrong I am getting excited about a baby on the way, but I am also feeling very selfish, I just started my weight loss journey and now I have to basically put it on hold for 9 months. I am still going to be eating healthy, watching my weight so I dont gain to much, but hey everyone knows you dont loose weight when your pregnant. I found out I was pregnant on Thanksgiving day, I haven't been to a doctor yet but from what we have calculated I am around 8 weeks pregnant. So this puts my due date around the first of August, which is not going to be fun I live in Arizona and we are up in the 100+ during August. Now with pregnancy symptoms I think I have been doing ok, I have had nausea but not bad vommiting I am averaging on once or twice a day, it makes me nervous because of band slippage but what can you do to stop yourself from having morning sickness? Now another thing is I AM HUNGRY ALL THE TIME, and I mean all the time, and if I dont eat when my body is telling me I am hungry I get very sick. This is a weird feeling for me because I was at my sweet spot on my band, I have an 11cc band and I am at a 6cc fill and I would eat Breakfast at 10, lunch at 1, dinner at 7 and be fine in between meals not even feel a hunger pain. But now 9am hits and if I dont eat I get nauseous, by 12pm if I dont eat I get nauseous, 5pm hits its the same thing, then I have to do a snack at 7 or 8. I am getting sick of my body being controlled by hunger, people tell me to eat healthy Snacks througout the day, but my nutritionist 6 months ago told me not to snack at all and I am out of the habbit, I know I know I am pregnant but the little fat girl in me is telling me your just gonna make yourself fatter if you snack throughout the day. I dont plan on getting an unfill throughout this pregnancy unless I absolutly have to but as of right now I still feel good with my fill its not to tight, and I am still eating smaller portions, and feeling full right after eating. Now for the past 2 weeks I have had some tenderness at my port, it comes and goes throughout the day is this normal? I haven't had my first OBGYN visit yet, I have schedualed it for Jan 10th. I live in a very small town where we only have 2 OBGYN's and neither one of them know anything about the lap band so I am going to be the one informing them about the band. My only problem is, I have no idea what happens with the band during pregnancy. I have called my band surgeon but have not received a call back yet, and I have a million questions floating around in my mind for him, I am getting inpatient for his call back I want answers now to helo calm my nerves. Can you have a normal child birth with the band? Is it safe to push with such force? Is it safer to just go through the process of a C section? I would love for you women to join me in this discussion so we can bounce stories, ideas, experiences off of each other. I know I am not the only one out there going through this and I thought we could band (funny little pun) together, to tell our journey and experience with pregnancy with the band. So if you are going through pregnancy with the band, or have already had a band baby and have some advice for us expecting mothers, or even women who are still in the process of getting pregnant with the band come talk to me so I dont feel sooo lost. So I am not planning on getting my band unfilled if I dont have to, but I have been having morning sickness. Should I be worried about my band slipping?

Hey I have a question for everyone out there. I was banded June 4th and had my first fill on July 24th I feel the restriction and I eat a lot less; but I feel like I should be eating less than what I can put down. How much do you guys generally eat in a meal? Thanks. :smile2:

I was banded on the 4th and it does get easier!!! Hang in there the soreness will start going away and the gas will to, WALK WALK WALK and that gas will go away real fast. I am still sore at the port sight but a muscle sore like I just did 50 sit ups with a 50 pound weight, the only time I can complain is when I am laying flat on my back and sit up OUCH my muscle burns where my port is and I have to take a couple of breaths to calm myself down. I am still on a liquid diet of cream soups, smoothies, and vitamin waters I will be happy when I can eat real food again. For the diarrhea I was getting it but it was my fault I was drinking fruit juices straight without diluting it with some water, so if your drinking juice especially apple juice make sure to put some water in it.

Thanks guys, its nice knowing when I can expect it to go away I am feeling really good today.

wisdom you wish you knew prior to surgery

This is for Kristy29 that diet you are on is the pre-op diet the diet you go on before you get your band; to help you loose weight so you can loose the 10% of your body weight to have a safe surgery. But once you have your band and your off your 21 day liquid diet and you can start eating again your not suppose to drink Protein shakes, or protein waters they want you to eat it not drink. If you drink it you will stop loosing weight because your not really satisfying your hunger because liquid goes right through the band where food will stay there for a couple of hours making you feel full; if you drink your protein after your liquid faze you will have a difficult time getting the weight off. -
I was just banded on 06/04/2010 so I am still in my 21 days of liquid only. I was curious about when I am able to start eating solid food again will I get sick? Have any of you had any problems with starting solid foods again?
