Methadone And Lap Band
andrea0121 replied to Justin B.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Justin, I just want to say congrats on weaning off of the methadone. My boyfriend had to do the same thing 2 years ago (he was on an ungodly amount). He went on suboxone therapy after the methadone and is weaning off that now too. He'll be sober on June 30th for 2 years. I have the utmost respect for people who know their addictions and address them. I lost my brother to addiction and have so much sympathy for people going through the struggle. Keep up the FANTASTIC work, God bless and keep us posted on your journey please. -
I was told no pre-op diet?
andrea0121 replied to dlucia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Samsies. I left the hospital on full liquids too. Everyone is different, and yes; I would consider myself lucky! -
Does everyone Throw up?
andrea0121 replied to Wheeler5051's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been banded almost 5 months and have yet to throw up or PB. She's either too tight or her band slipped. Something isn't right... -
Headache when eating
andrea0121 replied to LynNBlueSprings's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get this too. Except mine seem to go up to the left side of my head. Doctor thought that it was a nerve, and it's definitely my full sign. I avoid it like the plague. -
Having Surgery while having your "Monthly"?
andrea0121 replied to SDTeaGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you have to wear a pad, its embarrassing because there is blood.....I'm well aware of where a catherer goes and where my flow comes from........... -

Having Surgery while having your "Monthly"?
andrea0121 replied to SDTeaGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on mine too for my last 2 surgeries. The first one I was mortified and actually crying pre-op because I had to have a catheter put in. The LapBand surgery I didn't need a catheter so they just give a monstrosity of a pad and these funky underwear to put on. They've seen worse. -
disappointed... did I make wrong choice?
andrea0121 replied to nipper75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! We had surgery the same day!! I'm not at my sweet spot yet either, I only go about 2 to 3 hours after eating and start feeling hunger pains. I have found however that eating straight up Protein keeps me full way longer. Scrambled eggs and turkey sausage. Or, tuna/chicken salad on a wheat pita. Things of that nature for breakfast or lunch really really keep me full. Oatmeal doesn't keep me full at all. In fact, even after an hour or so of eating it I'm no longer satiated. Maybe if you step up the protein consumption it will help until you get more restriction. We are in bandster hell my dear until we get some restriction. I'm right there with ya at times. Good luck! -
What Does Burping Mean For You?
andrea0121 replied to cantdecide's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I seriously don't/can't burp anymore either, lol. Weirdddddddddd. I'm not complaining or anything, it's just weird. -
I can feel mine. It's off to the left side, just under my breast (killed after surgery with my wire bras). It's funny because it's placed on the "skinniest" part of me right at the top of my waist. I'm hoping it won't be popping out when I get skinnier. As of right now it isn't a visible issue.

Should I be concerned?
andrea0121 replied to erink58's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon belongs to a center of excellence as well. I had no waiting period, no pre-op diet, I left the hospital on full liquids, I was on normal foods 2 weeks post-op. I met the surgeon 1 time to discuss whether I wanted a Realize band or the LapBand, then saw him again before I went into the OR. All our experiences are different, please don't start out by comparing yourself to others on the board here. You'll be fine! -
I'm 5'9 and set a goal of 165. Four to 5 years ago I lost a ton of weight, got down to 178 and was wearing a size 12. Like most of you, I would love to cut up the LB card and never look back. Whatever weight puts me in a comfy size 12 (now that I'm older) I'll be happy.

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
andrea0121 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's a thread on here somewhere about hair loss and I remember reading that some people--no matter how much protein--still have thinning. Some suggested it was the 'shock' from surgery and anesthesia (which doesn't make sense to me because I had 3 surgeries in 2 years time before the lapband and didn't notice) and I think another suggestion was iron? I'm not very helpful because I don't have the link to the thread, but I know I've read a couple about it. You're lucky you have thick hair, mines fine and curly and I'm starting to see more come out in teh shower. -

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
andrea0121 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the reply! I'm scheduled for April 4th. Luckily I just have a $25 copay or else this last little bit of tweaking would be brutal on the pocket book! I will definitely post the outcome. -
My doctor/nut. never said anything about not having coffee. I have a regular cup every morning at work. FF French vanilla creamer.

Jenn, I had 3cc's in my band straight out of surgery. I get the lump in my throat thing now when I've ate too fast or too much. It's a big red flag (for me) to stop. I also get a bad (feels like surgery gas) pain in my left shoulder that radiates up to my head. So, as soon as I feel that lump...I stop. I'm going to guess that you have some Fluid in your band, or the band itself is restriction for you and that's what you're feeling by the lump. YMMV

Good luck with your port revision! Let us know how you're doing afterwards.

hamburgers, I want one bad!
andrea0121 replied to dramastarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can eat a burger too, we put it on those sandwich thins. My boyfriend likes the sandwich this too so it works. I can't finish the whole burger but it is an option for me. -

andrea0121 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Joan, what size band do you have? I'm at 6.25 in a 9cc band. I go next week for a small fill, I'm hoping this will be the one that does it. I'm still feeling hunger pains 2 or so hours after eating a reasonable portion... -
Salem. Just over the Illinois border on Lake Michigan. My surgeon was Dr. Chua at Sinai in Milwaukee.
