Newly Banded --- 6/4/2010
HelenC32 replied to HelenC32's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks so much! I didn't know about the Gas-X strips. I will definitely add those to the list of things to pick up. I walked last night around our block. My b/f walked with me and we took it slow and easy. I am actually pretty amazed at how good I feel after reading some other people's blogs. I know I can't push myself too hard but I really had expected to be in a lot more pain than this so woohoo! lol I see that you have lost 94 lbs in just a little over 7 months. That is awesome!!! Congratulations! I can't wait to see that number drop for me but I also know I didn't get this size overnight and that the LapBand is not a miracle cure. I will definitely post my progress if for no other reason than to remind myself of where I have been. Thanks again for the kind words! Good luck to you too!!! -

To tell or not to tell, that is the question...
HelenC32 replied to LeighaMason's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had surgery today and no one knew but my b/f. We live together and since he is my SO it is only natural that he knows...he is taking care of me from my surgery. Other than that, the only other person that knows is his mom. I only shared it with her because I lost my mom in 1996 to cancer and my ex-MIL did NOT get along so I am hoping to the friendship I have with his mom continues. No one at work, my kids, my sister, my friends and family...none of them know and I am not sure I will ever tell them. I guess I just don't want to be judged, you know? So many people who DON'T struggle with their weight, don't understand. They think that if you just set your mind to dieting and exercising, then you should be able to lose the weight. I have even heard people I know make comments that having weight loss surgery is "the easy way out". They have NO IDEA what they are talking about! So for me...telling is not something I elected to do. -
Any June Bandsters???
HelenC32 replied to candy rain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone! I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. I was banded today and actually feel pretty good! I have pain in my left shoulder but the nurse at the Same Day Surgery Center where I had my surgery warned me of this. I have some "discomfort" in my ab area...mainly the area of the port...but overall, I feel pretty good. I have been drinking the 4 - 8 ounces every hour as instructed so I think staying hydrated has a lot to do with that. I am very excited about the new journey and feel that for the first time in my life, I am actually going to succeed at losing weight and keeping it off! I went from 220.2 at my first appt with my surgeon to 216 before surgery this morning. I just hope this really does control the hunger!!!
