I am not familiar with bcbs but I understand your wanting the band to be healthy for your child...I also have a 2 1/2 year old and since losing 53 lbs we are able to do so much more together. I know that with most insurances you have to be on a medically supervised diet for at least 6 months before you can be considered for this type of surgery, have you been going to him for weight related issues for a while? If so I know my ins company just wanted to know what type of medications/diet i was doing for 6 months and my recorded weights for that period of time. Maybe you could find a surgeon that will let you finance in house. Post a thread and ask members on this board maybe someone can steer you in the right directions. You are in my thoughts I hope this will all work out for you!!

No I do not think you will "hurt" your band by 3 weeks you are pretty much into the healing process you will notice that you can resume somewhat normal eating until you get your fill so I would be very careful though if you want to lose weight during this period of time until your first fill.

CONGRATS!!! Way to go! Exercise is crucial at this point for sure!!! The more you do the faster you will lose for sure!!

I too enjoy the "taste" of food rather than the full feeling...I explained this to my nutritionist and she said and I quote "maybe you should chew the food and then spit it out" eww gross right NOT I have done that before (of course when no one was looking LOL) just for the taste of something. I know it sounds extremely gross that's what i said but just to get the taste of it is enough for me.

Being unaware of how I look compared to others.

I agree with the virtual model thing it's so accurate!! Again being that we are similar in stats and I (as I have been told) are big boned...I remember being 200 lbs and in a size 10 jeans so when we are tall and large framed we tend to carry our weight better than someone with that weight and shorter. The funniest thing for me was when I went into do my presurgical upper GI and the technician said wow you look great how much weight have you lost so far and I told them I havn't even had the surgery yet and they had to go check the paperwork LOL. If you are like me I am very muscular as well so I tend to weigh more because of that but look like I weigh less. My best advice i could give you is not to compare yourself because as you lose weight your body looks much different. I just had a "guy" friend of mine who hasn't seen me since my surgery tell me I looked Fantastic and I am thinking in my head I weight 233 lbs how can I look fantastic LOL but you know what I am a size 14 now so that's much better than a 22-24 so I must look better right? Keep doing what you are doing...stick to the band rules and one day you are going to be like OMG look at me !!!! -
Do thighs stop rubbing together when you walk after you lose a certain amount?
alicat3924 replied to kyethra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
HI!!! Well it looks to me like we started out pretty much the same I am 5'8" and 3/4 lol and I was 286 on my first weigh in with my surgeon and 270 the day of... and I can tell you I have no rubbing anymore!! I am down 53 lbs since the middle of October and I finally have "space" between my thighs!! So YES this will end!! Good Luck!! -
I too smoked up until the day I had my surgery no problem for me.

I am so sorry for your loss...my thoughts and prayers are with you. I too had a MC last year although it was before my band, I quit smoking, exercised lightly ate right took my vitamins but NO ONE and I MEAN NO ONE knows why this happens except for the big man upstairs. My partner too blamed me, that if I quit smoking before I got pregnant I wouldn't have lost it etc...but that is not the reason, I know this now because we sought counseling because we were both grieving badly. I know you hate him right now but trust me I am sure this is just his way of grieving sometimes they NEED someone to blame it on even though it is no ones fault. This happens to so many women, but I now truly believe that everything happens for a reason. I could only suggest maybe seing a grief counselor...they helped us a lot. Hang in there! -
Well I wondered the same before my surgery...and for me I have not been able to tolerate any meat, bread, doughy stuff absolutely no cake, donuts lol. But hey the bright side of almost choking to death if I consume those CARBS makes me want to stay away from them even more!!! I think the answer you are looking for varies greatly. I have a friend who had the surgery done the same week as me and she CAN eat steak, chicken etc. I think it's all how your body tolerates it! GOOD LUCK

Has anyone noticed large amounts of hairloss post op? If so what has helped stop the hair fall out so much?

WOW...My surgery was a little less than 5 months ago and I am officially down 50 pounds!!!! It was so exciting to step on that scale this morning and finally be at the 50 pound mark. I still have about 57 to go...but I am exercising about 1 hour and 45 min a day mixing strength training and walking. I am also following Weight Watchers points. So I AM working the system, I know this band is only a tool and I HAVE TO do all the work. YEAH!!! Finally down 50 pounds!!

How much weight do you have to lose to change a size?
alicat3924 replied to annieM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am down 50 pounds and went from a 22 to a 16 so about every 20 pounds -
Ok so we finally have everything in place...I have my dress and everything...only problem is I ordered my dress in a smaller size (anticipating more weight loss w/ 5 months to go, I have lost almost 50 lbs in almost 5 months). My only problem is I don't like how my arms/back look in my dress...can anyone suggest some good exercises to do to shape up my top half in 5 months? I am doing resistance training 5 days a week and walking 20 miles a week what more can I do?

Ok i have heard a lot about this stuff...I decided to read up on it online...not much useful info. Does anyone use this (any ladies especially) what does it do and when do you drink it?
-
Ok this is so strange....I had been at a plateau for a while and was talking to a dear girlfriend of mine who had the band the same time i did (we started at nearly the same weight 4 lbs difference and we are the same height) anyway I was telling her I am eating about 1000-1200 cal a day but I am burning about that many calories a day doing exercise. She told me she eats a lot more than I do and she's losing weight quicker than me and she's not exercising much. So I tried eating more and I lost 4 lbs WEIRD Huh...could it be that they tell us to restrict our calories too low now our bodies think we are starving ourselves? But when we actually give our bodies food it likes us again? Has this happened to anyone else?
-
My last attempt to lose weight on my own was prescribed by my physician. I began taken Meridia and OMG...my blood pressure went through the roof and I was on the brink of a heart attack (at age 24). I have tried every effort known to man to lose weight...Weight Watchers...atkins...slim fast...hydroxycut...LA Weight Loss...personal trainer etc. I would lose a few pounds only to regain them and then some. I am very happy with my band I am down 46 lbs in 18 weeks. I now eat the right things and exercise ALOT. I wouldn't have it any other way! Good luck I hope everything works out for you.

Does anyone know of a good protein drink that actually don't taste like chalk? I would like to add them back into my diet because I think I am not getting enough protein but I can not stand the taste of most of them...anyone actually like the taste of their protein shakes? If so what kind do you use?
