If given the choice younger
mellifrits replied to mellifrits's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 23 and i'm glad I did it! I feel like I have a second chance at life. My only worry is I'm down 27 lbs in 30 days. I'm very happy about hitting goal; just a little worried losing weight this fast means Ill have issues having enough weight. Wow, I honestly never thought I would worry about losing too much weight! -
the scale is not moving AGAIN
mellifrits replied to Mommyof4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you are having to deal with this! As far as I have read it is normal to hit that point. But one this I have seen a lot is people start lowering their carb in take and it gets the ball rolling again. Good luck! Keep us updated. -

mellifrits posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I plan to go to Dr. Jose Rodriguez at Star Medica Hospital in Juarez Mexico and I was wanting to talk to people that have been there or plan to go there. Any info would be very helpful! Also I plan to go there the first of Sept so if you are going that same time let me know. -

When I'm bored I eat... Oh wait I can't..
mellifrits posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I, like a lot of people, when I get bored I want to eat something. Now that I can't do that I find myself less and less bored. Instead of eating I seem to be changing my habit to simply get busy. LoL why didn't I think of "if you eat when your bored, then dint let yourself get bored" before? I'm finding myself being more active, happy, and even social! Has anyone else started to see positive changes in some habits that you can't do anymore? -

mellifrits replied to mellifrits's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do understand that feeling of why am I looking for something to eat? But it is so empowering to me that Im able to say, "Why am I looking for food?" and then walk away to do something else. I never seemed have that full feeling before.. -

This is not me or the dr I went to or even the hospital I went to BUT I was amazed on just how much a like my trip to Mexico was with this video. Honestly if I had video taped my trip; 95% would have matched this youtube clip! I wish I had seen this before I went since it would have answered a lot for me and calmed my fears. SO I'm sharing it with all of you!! -
All pre op should watch this video

I was freaking out about the drain and kept talking to him while he was looking at it. I was so busy freaking out that he was done before I even knew he started lol.. I work at the hospital with total knees and total hips that always have a drain. Most people always tell me it wasn't as bad as they thought it would be. -

When I'm bored I eat... Oh wait I can't..
mellifrits replied to mellifrits's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I let myself get too full one time (from four chicken nuggets mind you) and that is all it took for me to never want to do it again. So now that negitive feeling of pain goes hand-in-hand with over eating. So now when I think about eating more my flash back changes my mind real fast and I do something else to get away from being bored. Happy dance for pre op diet getting you one step closer to your new life. I know it is hard now but when you look back it is all going to be worth it!! Keep us updated!! -
6 weeks out..popcorn??
mellifrits replied to greeneyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How did eating popcorn at the movies go for you? I'm a month post op and I'm going to the movies tomorrow. -
I had the hiccups a little at first BUT now I get them when I'm full. It is my sign to stop eating.

how soon did you try alcohol?
mellifrits replied to disp4so's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm a month out and I tried it a few days ago. Now I'm wondering if I should have waited but I didn't so here is my two cents. I felt it a lot faster than before wls and couldn't drink much anyways since I can only hold 3 oz at a time. My drink was warm by the time my stomach let me get more than that few oz. I honestly wouldn't do shots if I were you and I would take it slow. -
If you stick to anything at all in your pre op diet stick with the low carbs. They don't want your liver to be fatty since it puts you at risk of them bumping it. From what I read if they even bump your liver it can bleed making your recovery much slower. I promise they have their reasons be hind it. I'm one month post op and I still do low carbs. I don't eat bread or pasta and I'm down 27 lbs in 30 days.

OMG!!! 5 days before I'm "sleeved"!!!
mellifrits replied to MKK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you read the forum in the post op forum that is always on the top that talks about depression after wls. Sometimes when we have if onlys and we get those if onlys we just come up with new ones. I'm not saying you are depressed or that you will be but just make sure to read up on it. On the note of getting sick I did have alot of dry heaving but as weird this sounds I was dry heaving gas. Make sure to take gas-x strips with you. They are how I got the dry heaving continuously to stop. As soon as I felt the pain coming back I would take one. Also make sure to take a heating pad with you. You will have gas pains and the heating pad really helps with them. When it comes to going back to work it is really up to you on how fast you will be ready. The more you walk the faster you will feel better. You won't feel like walking BUT DO IT ANYWAYS!! The more you walk the faster the gas will move out of you. Most of your pain will come from the gas they put in you. On eating post op, I know right now this sounds crazy but you will have to force yourself to drink something let alone worry about food. The only reason I drank something finally after two days is only due to them saying they would not let me go home until I did. After a few days I tried brooth but that was only due to the fact I was told something warm helps with the morning pain which is very very true!!! And finally about your pre diet. You can do this! If you don't with it and don't make your liver smaller then you can run into the problem of them bumping your liver while in surgery. If that happens then that means more pain and it slows down your healing time. I know you don't want that! I don't mean to scare you too much but fear is what kept me on track with my pre-diet. PS I'm writting you on my Iphone so if there is a mistype Im very sorry! -
With Dr. Rod there was no worries on gown sizes. I think since we were all getting wls it would be silky of them to not have large gowns on hand. And after surgery I honestly didn't care what I looked like. That was the last thing on my mind lol.. I just made myself take my walks so I could go back to sleep. The only reason I even put shorts on was so could look at my stomach easier. If you buy a gown it will be a waste of money. I'm one month post op and I'm already down 27lbs. I brought a robe with me and never even used it. If you are going to take anything with you make it gas-x strips and a heating pad.

carb limit on your plan and your weight loss
mellifrits replied to mommytoethan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't really been watching my carb intake since I made the choice to not eat bread or pasta of any kind. Tomorrow I will be one month post op and I am down 27 lbs. My avg loss per day is some where between 0.5 and 1.0 per day. -
When will my incisions heal!
mellifrits replied to jenn20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont think it will be as great as you think to sleep on your stomach. It took me two weeks before I even tried it BUT I sleep on my side. What I did was I sat on the bed and then lay down on my side. I wasn't able to lay on my back and then turn to my side since it hurt to much. BUT I agree with Kymmi12: I am only a month post op and already Im starting to forget the pain. It is so worth it!! If you dont believe me just check out my tracker!! -

I got the TGVP with Dr. Rod in Juarez and it was wonderful! Just make sure to take your gas-x strips n' your heating pad and you'll be good to go! -

Hey all you 20 something’s! I am wondering are you guys talking about having WLS or just keeping it to yourself. I have only told a hand full of people and those that I told weren't always supportive of the idea of someone having WLS at such a young age.. So now I’m not talking.. What about you? How are people reacting when you do tell them? Do you tell everyone? Do you just tell close friends? Do you tell people you start dating after the weight loss?
-
Oh wow that does sound fun at all! If they put an NG tube in me it was gone by the time I woke up. I'm sorry you had to deal with that!

One Month in Heaven!
mellifrits replied to mellifrits's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The VSG cuts and removes the unwanted part of the stomach and the TGVP just takes that section that is unwanted and folds it over. If you look up super sleeve in the search it should bring up where me and others have posted the info about it.
