Surgery Biggest Mistake Of Life!
mellifrits replied to Shelby21's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I felt like that too and it was over a month before I even tried to eat normal food that was softer. I was totally out of it from pain for the first week. It got better but very very slowly. I had the super sleeve so they didn't even remove half my stomach and I was still in pain. Give it until your 3 months post op before you hate your stomach all together. -
Need Help! Stomach Stretched While Pregnant
mellifrits posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
July 2010 I had my weight-loss surgery and a year later I hit my goal weight of 130 pounds and got into a size 4. Three weeks later I found out I was pregnant with my first child. My weight-loss surgery continued to work the first half of my pregnancy but the second half I became very hungry and started to over eat. Now my stomach has stretched out and it is no longer helping me to lose weight. The day before I gave birth to my son they weighed me and I was 191 pounds. 10 of those pounds i gained in two days because I had preeclampsia. I am 165 pounds now four months after my son's birth. I would like to get my stomach back to the way it was but I am not having very much luck. Does anyone have any advice? PS One thing that you should know is that I am 100% breast-feeding. With that said I can't go a few days on little to no food to get my stomach to go back down because I'm also feeding my son. La Leche League and other breastfeeding groups, books, and other references recommend that you do not go under 1800 calories a day while nursing an infant. Which I use to have a hard time getting a 1000 calories a day. -

I was super excited when I read the first post but was soon disappointed when I read the commits. I have Tricare and I have had the super sleeve aka (Gastric Plication) but now that I am two years post op the Gastric Plication is not helping. I am very much wanting to look into getting the VSG but I can't afford to pay for it out of pocket again. I live in Beaufort, SC right now. Does anyone know of a Military Dr that does VSG in my area? -
Review: Total Gastric Plication In Sleeve Aka Super Sleeve
mellifrits replied to mellifrits's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for all your kind words. I feel very sad that I had WLS and still can't lose weight right now. Im only 5'2" so 160 is far too much for my body. I'm eating healthy since I am breast feeding but I am still hungry all the time. My dr told me I was hungry from Breast Feeding since I am still feeding two people. My dr (primary) doesn't want me to limit my calorie intake more than I am due to the breast feeding but hopefully when I talk to the Weight Loss Dr next month he will have more answers for me. -
Review: Total Gastric Plication In Sleeve Aka Super Sleeve
mellifrits posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On 7-12-2010 I had the Total Gastric Plication in Sleeve AKA Super Sleeve in Mexico with Dr. Rodriguez. (Just to let you know BeLiteWeight was a wonderful company to work with and Dr. Rod was an amazing Dr. If having the WLS in the states is not a choice for you I would go there.) I wanted to write a review now that I have almost been post-op for two years. In the first year I loved my surgery since I got down to a SIZE 4 but in April of 2011 I found out I was pregnant and that is where my issues started. The Total Gastric Plication does not remove your hunger gene which might have been good for my son since I was hungry BUT it caused me to be very temped to over eat, my stomach has stretched out. Now that it has been four months since I gave birth to my son but stomach hasn't gone back. I do take reasonability for causing my stomach to stretch since I went off my no bread diet. I need the carbs since I was so tired all the time. But other people that have been pregnant with the VSG have not had the same issues and I have. I do need to be clear that I am NO WHERE close to where I was when I started looking into WLS three years ago (High of 216) but I am 160 lbs. I am sure after working out and dieting I should get back down but I just don’t feel my stomach is helping me anymore. If I could go back I would have just gotten the VSG due to the fact now I have to talk about having another surgery to just have the VSG now when I should have just gotten it in the first place. So in the end DON’T get the Super Sleeve just go with the VSG. If you have any questions feel free to email me at maetarr@yahoo.com- 7 replies

Do Not Get The Plication
mellifrits replied to mellifrits's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Yes I did great the first year. I got down to 130 lbs but in the past year the sleeve has stopped helping me. I stop eating because I know I should not because I'm full. I am no where near my highest weight but I am 30 lbs heavier than last year. My surgery leaves the stomach just folded over but that does not remove the hunger hormon like the VSG. I am talking with doctors now to see if my stomach has stretched and see what we can do. If we can't fix it with diet I'm going to try for the VSG. I wish I had just gotten it in the first place even if there is a higher risk for leaks. Dr Rob is amazing I'm sure he would have done a beautiful job with the VSG. -
Failed gastric plication to gastric sleeve
mellifrits replied to Sarah Elsekhawy's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
How are you doing now with your surgery? I had the super sleeve two years ago in July. I just wonderful with it. I was 130 lbs and a size 4 BUT then I got pregnant with my wonderful son and now my stomach doesn't seem to be helping. I think since I went off my diet while I was pregnant I stretch my stomach. When I was on the diet for the first year I didn't eat bread or pasta so I'm starting to wonder if my stomach couldn't handle the bread/pasta expanding. Did the doctors talk about extra risks when going from the PLICATION to the VSG? Like the stomach being thin or part of the stomach being dead? Is your hunger better with the VSG? My email is maetarr@yahoo.com -
So we all got our surgeries in July 2010. Now almost two years later (March 2012) how is everyone doing? What is life like two years post op? I got married last year and had my first child in Dec 2011 (I didn't think I could have children). I am 30 lbs heavier than my lowest weight before my pregnancy but I am seeing a specialist the beganning of May to see what we can do to help me since my stomach got larger in my pregnancy. I'm sure I'll have the weight back off in no time. At least I'm no where close to my highest weight. I still am glad I had the WLS. If I could go back I would have gotten the VSG instead of the Super Sleeve but WLS was the best thing I ever could have done for myself.

Review: Total Gastric Plication In Sleeve Aka Super Sleeve
mellifrits replied to mellifrits's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Total Gastric Vertical Plication (TGVP or Plication) Total Gastric Vertical Plication (TGVP or Plication) is a fairly new restrictive, laparoscopic technique that reduces the size of the stomach and limits food intake. The Plication involves sewing one or more large folds in your stomach, in which the stomach volume is reduced about 70%, making your stomach the shape of a tube. The sutures used are non-absorptive and there is no cutting, stapling, removal of the stomach or intestines, or uses any foreign implants. This creates less risk for complications and also allows for full absorption of vital nutrients (no malabsorption created). Although this is a newer procedure, the current statistics show a loss for most patients of approximately 62-67% of excess body weight. You may hear other surgeons explain that this procedure is reversible, but it has been shown that when the sutures are removed, scar tissue may have formed around the folds of the stomach, preventing it from returning to its original shape (think of it as the sides of a balloon sticking together). Due to this fact, this procedure should be considered as a permanent weight loss surgery. http://www.beliteweight.com/gastric_plication.php -
Review: Total Gastric Plication In Sleeve Aka Super Sleeve
mellifrits replied to mellifrits's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Total Gastric Plication aka Super Sleeve is where instead of removing the 70% of your stomach the VSG does, you fold it and staple it so there is no access but the stomach is still there. The only problem is you still have the hunger hormone. It was just thought to be safer BUT since I was their poster child who has done the best, I don’t want to recommend it. -
i was single but one year post op I got married to the love of my life Oh how life has changed

Found out today that I'm 5 weeks Pregnant
mellifrits posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Yesterday I found out that I’m Pregnant and to be honest I am scared to death! Scared that I will gain back all the weight I’ve worked so hard to get off and I’m scared I won’t be able to eat enough food to be healthy for the baby and I’m scared I'll make my stomach big again trying! There are so many worries going through my head. What do I need to try to eat more of? What vitamins do I need to take since I already take some for my stomach? What should I tell my dr? Do I need to see a special dr? I’m so confused!!! I was not planning for this baby in anyway nor am I ready for it but he or she is coming so I better get ready fast!! Any Advice would be such a blessing! -

Found out today that I'm 5 weeks Pregnant
mellifrits replied to mellifrits's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Okay so I have had a couple days now to let it set in and Im starting to get happy about it. Yesterday I read that most miscarriages happen in the first tri of pregnancy and that scared me. That was the first time that I was sad of the thought of loosing the baby. As much as I didn't plan this and as much as this scares me, I want this baby now. The babies father is a Marine and wants to get married. He is a great guy and I do love him but it is scary since we dont know each other well BUT I guess I should have thought about it before I slept with him. I guess it had just been so long since anyone had ever thought me as pretty and it felt good. There is not excuse for it but those are the facts. He is only an e-4 so if we want to move in together and get the housing pay we need to get married. Also I do not have insurance with my job so this is going to cost a pretty penny. So I guess right now we are talking about getting married and me moving there with him. We are starting to look at places now. It is just crazy how fast things can change. I have a few questions. If I dont have insurance is there a cheaper place I can go until I am covered? Right now I am between 5-6 weeks so do I need to go to the dr. now or when I am at 8 weeks? Because of my WLS do I need to go to the high risk dr.? Would you get married if you were in my place? -
