Is this infected? (warning, pic of incision)
JMinDallas replied to weso631's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry about the MRSA outbreak. It is a little scary at first, but it seems once you finally get rid of it it's gone for a while at least. My daughter had it a couple of years ago. She was only 2 yrs old. We don't know where or how. She had 3 separate outbreaks over a year, the last one requiring her to be hospitalized. She was there for 5 days while she had IV antiobiotics, and had to be cut open and the sore drained. It was horrible. We did daily bleach baths. Small amount of bleach to a tub of Water. It's been 2 yrs since then, and she hasn't had an outbreak. If you're able to, I'd ask your doc if you can take baths. I forget the ratio, but I want to say 1 cup of bleach to a tub of water. We did this for a few months. Just a suggestion. Hope you get better soon! -
SF popsicles really help me. I too am not hungry, but I'm craving something. I'll start hunting in the kitchen (thankfully no junk food around), and then remember my popsicles which I keep on supply. Those really help!

Other OTC pain meds besides Tylenol?
JMinDallas posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does anyone take any other OTC pain meds besides Tylenol? I found it doesn't work well at all. I've always used advil/motrin which works the best in my opinion. I have a bad ear infection and tylenol isn't doing the job. Any meds by prescription are just too strong for me. Anyone who uses something else that works, pls let me know. Thank you! -
Other OTC pain meds besides Tylenol?
JMinDallas replied to JMinDallas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks you! I think I will take one at night until the pain is gone. I actually took an advil the night before last (just one) and I slept so good until about 2 am when the pain woke me. Last night I didn't take one, and I was tossing and turning all night in pain. Thanks also for the suggestion of tylenol w/codeine. You girls are the best! -
Other OTC pain meds besides Tylenol?
JMinDallas replied to JMinDallas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the suggestion. I just called dr and they said no, only Tylenol. Oh well, guess I will suffer longer. It's been a week...my eardrum ruptured infection was bad. I'm hoping a few more days and pain will lessen. And yes, on antibiotics and ear drops. -
Sorry but I had to laugh! As I was reading this, I was thinking crazyinlove was typing too fast. Then when you said word for word what they wrote I had to LOL! Spell checker anyone?

The Scales of Justice...
JMinDallas replied to peprmentpati's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is exactly me! I only get weighed when I go to the dr. As I reach closer to goal I'll buy one just to make sure I'm staying on track. But right now, I don't need the obsession of weighing myself constantly and getting more discouraged if I don't see a loss. -
What's up with the hernia repair?
JMinDallas posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So why do so many of us have hernias that need to be repaired during surgery? Is it because we're overweight? If I'm self pay will my insurance pick up the fee for this? Just had surgery yesterday and if I wouldn't have asked nurse I wouldn't have known they repaired it. Never saw dr. -
No Advil or similar?
JMinDallas replied to jamelyn1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We were told we could never take Advil/Motrin/Aleve or anything similar ever again with the band. I too don't feel tylenol works well at all. -
Funny you asked this, I was ready to post the same question. Can we have sugar post-op? Do we still have to do SF stuff? I understand to not overdo, but wondering if having a regular popsicle vs SF is a problem post-op?

on liquid diet and STARVING!!!!!!! HEEELLLPPP!
JMinDallas replied to feelfat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SF popsicles saved my day. I would eat 2-3 at night. It really helped me keep the brain juice! -
I dont have any great words of wisdom, but you have to get it out. You could end up killing yourself.

I had this pain too. Nowhere near an incision. I really think it was gas. I'm 8 days post-op and don't feel it as regularly as I did, but occasionally it does. I know you had surgery before me, but it's really possible it's still gas pains. Do you have a post-op dr visit soon?

I can't afford a new wardrobe every month
JMinDallas replied to iwannabealoser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hit the thrift store, or resale shops. You can find really good quality clothing for cheap. Name brand stuff that you wouldn't expect to find. Also, places like TJ Maxx are a good place to find good stuff. Just go for clearance items. Even big dept stores when they have clearance and coupons. -
Yes, I'm the same. I like what someone else stated a while ago...squarts! It's the yuckiest thing, but glad the gas is getting out somehow. I'm just glad I'm not constipated.

As others mention, walk and heating pad. It's built up gas. Sometimes the pain is so tough, if I move a certain way it feels a little better. I notice if I sit up straighter rather than slouched it feels better. Or laying on my side.

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
JMinDallas replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too was banded 6/29/10. My surgery was scheduled at 10...I was finally being wheeled into OR around 1:30! Nurse said dr is always running late, and if you're not one of the earliest scheduled, you get pushed later and later. I wasn't scared at all. IV took 2 nurses to try and put it in. I was so cold, finally told them to wrap my arm in a warm blanket (learned this trick for another surgery). Worked like magic, and was able to get the IV in. Anesthesiologist came in an gave me my happy meds. I remember being wheeled into the OR, the had some good music on and I was dancing to it, laying down on the gurney. Kind of funny! The worst part is the nurses in post-op. They're so mean! Don't touch your eyes, don't rub ur face, no you can't have any water, wake up!!! I was ready to smack someone! I must have been awake for just a little while, and already getting me into a wheelchair and taking the bed away. I felt ok. I finally went to Radiology and drank that nasty barium. At that point I was so happy to have something in my mouth I didn't care that it was so gross! Went back to the post-op area. Waited for ok on the xrays and then given my 5 med cup fulls of water spaced out over 10 mins. I drank them all fine. Then I had to pee before they'd release me. Sat for a while on the toilet, and tried to force myself to go. I'd say after 20 mins or so I finally did. Then I was wheeled out. If you remember, ask them for a cup of ice or water for the way home. My mouth was soooo dry. My hubby finally stopped at a fast food place and got me a cup of ice. It was the worst feeling. Got home and slept off and on. Laying on my side with a pillow propped against my stomach was the best way to sleep. Felt better on day after, but still sore. I feel a lot better today, but still funny feelings in the chest area. Walking has really helped, and sipping water constantly throughout the day. So glad this part is done, and now I can begin my journey! -
What's up with the hernia repair?
JMinDallas replied to JMinDallas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just wait and see. Funny thing, my consult with dr was supposedly 'free'. Well my insurance showed the dr's office billed them for the consult, but showed I payed my co-pay, which I didn't. So I'm sure they'll try to bill my insurance for the hernia. Hope they take whatever the insurance pays as covered in full. -

Banded Yesterday!
JMinDallas replied to Thunder629's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I beat you by one day! I was banded the 29th. I too don't feel too bad. A little shoulder pain, but heating pad helped a lot. Have some stomach gurglings. Trying to keep drinking and keep the fluids going. Nice you'll have some band buddies in your family. Take care. -
