    Pain from Sleeping

I was banded on May 28, 2010. It is very difficult for me to lay on my stomach. I can only sleep on my back or my right side. I can not lay on my left side at all as it causes some pain and then the port pokes out... really weird feeling! I think this is normal but plan to ask my doc at my next fill on July 23. Hope this helps. :grouphug:

    swimming....???

My doctor told me 4 weeks. I would not submerge in water until your doc says your incisions are healed. I think the biggest concern is infection.
  4. Congrats MsFab... you look AWESOME! You were beautiful before your weightloss. But now... you are confident in your beauty. Way to go GIRL... keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to us that are new to the journey. Again... Congratulations!

    Backseat of small car?

I was banded on a Friday morning and the doc said I should be able to go back to work on Monday. Thank GOD that the Monday following my surgery was a holiday! I did not go back to work until Tuesday and was only able to do half days the remainder of the week. By the following Monday (10th day post op) I felt like a new person and was back to full time days as usual. If there is one thing I would tell someone about to be banded it is... give yourself a week (7 days) to heal... you need it. Hope this helps... Good Luck!
  8. I found out that my surgeon used a REALIZE C BAND on me. I asked for the AP Lap Band. I have read great things about both bands and am just thrilled to be banded. I am doing well... lost 27 pounds so far... had my first fill yesterday... life is good. I am just disappointed that my surgeon didn't do what I asked him to do. Will I have the same results regardless of the kind of band he used? Looking for answers and advice.:bored:

    Soup

I love beans... black beans especially. Do they not give you terrible gas? Since my lap band surgery... I have an abundance and hate to add fuel to the fire. LOL Sounds like a great recipe and look forward to trying it.

    Tummy Ache advise please

Have you called your doctor? I bet they can give you advice and that will give you comfort. The worst part for me is the not knowing. If I feel a little discomfort or a strange sensation... I am OK as long as I know it is normal. I have not had any tummy aches but the gas has been terrible. Even now... 4 weeks post op... it can hit like a ton of bricks with no warning. Gas X helps a ton but my stomach is really noisy since surgery. How about you? Sometimes I think it is so loud that surely other people hear it. Hope you feel better soon...

    Port Incision

I was banded on May 28, 2010 and I had a bruise at the port site incision too. It wasn't a purple/blue bruise... it was a yellowish bruise... kind of like the blood didn't come all the way up to the surface. It was tender for a few weeks but got better every day. I am 4 weeks postop today and prior to my fill yesterday... it did not hurt at all. Today... morning after my first fill... it is a little sore... nothing major though. Have you tried icing your port area? I put one of those freezer pacs on mine when it is puffy. Hope this helps! :bored:

    Swollen port area

I was banded 5/28/10 and just had my first fill yesterday. I am a little puffy at my port site too... especially after I exercise or at the end of the day. As it seems pretty flat and normal in the morning. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the port is attached to a muscle and we use those muscles all day. I know folks who have had lapband surgery years ago and they do not still have a puffy port area. I guess we just need to be patient and let it heal but patience is not my strongsuit. LOL

    I am shocked...

Which band did your surgeon choose for you? I forgot to mention... the reason we were going to use the AP Lap band standard was so the surgeon could do a small fill at surgery. When he came in to check on me the night of my surgery... He told me he put 2 CC's in my band. That led me to believe he used the AP lap band as the Realize does not allow a fill at surgery. Then... I got a copy of my operative report and it stated he used the Realize C Band. Confused! Did he lie about the 2 CC's at surgery or what? Anyway... I am just happy to be banded and doing so well. Thanks for your advice.
  14. Wow... I know I said that before but the tranformation is AMAZING! I hope I melt as well as you did. Congrats!

    Random Nausea

Hi ERica, I experienced nausea the first week or so after surgery. I assumed it was a part of the healing process. It did get much better the second week after surgery and I no longer had to take the meds my doc gave me for nausea. However, today was my first bought of nausea since. I went to the beach for the first time since surgery and it was really hot. I havent been cleared to get in the Water yet so it was difficult to cool off. Although I was drinking lots of water and keeping myself hydrated I was dizzy and nauseated. Once I got in the car with the A/C blasting I felt much better. Hope your nausea goes away soon. Can you get some meds from your doc? Keep us posted...
  18. Ladies... Lane Bryant is having their semi-annual "Buy 2 Get 2" Sale. I just bought $208.00 worth of great bras for $86 (including tax and shipping). Can't beat that with a stick! Hurry the good styles, sizes and colors sell out fast.
  19. Hey Sam... hang in there the soreness around the port site will get better each day. When I started back walking (at one week post op), I had some slight swelling and soreness around the port site. I called the nurse at my doctors office and she said that was normal. Are you sure you are drinking enough fluids? Sometimes we think we are feeling hunger pains when our bodies are really crying out for fluids. Hope this helps ease your concerns... hang in there. It gets better every day! Rhea

    New here...

I am not an expert since I am so newly banded. When I was doing just liquids... I drank all the time and even on full liquids. However, when I started mushy foods... I started to observe the drinking rule. The drinking rule is too keep you from washing your food out of the small pouch. Liquids and creamies go right through anyway. Right? So excited I get to add some baked or grilled fish and some soft veggies on Satruday. When do you get to move to mushy foods? Has the gas hit you yet? Don't forget to walk it out. Also, when I got the really bad shoulder pain... I got a really hot shower and left it beat down on my shoulder. It really helped. Have you had any nausea?

    New here...

My doctor is not as strict as some. He had me do clear liquids for 2 days, full liquids for 5 days, mushies for 7 days and on Saturday I get to move to soft foods... adding some soft cheese, baked or grilled fish, refried beans and soft cooked veggies. I am so excited about chewing... I can hardly wait. I don't care for the mushy foods so I have stuck mostly to the creamy soups. I like to make tomoto soup using milk... it is very good and helps get your protien in for the day. I have not been hungry but my doc gave me 2 CC's in surgery. I have a follow up appt. on June 24 and hope to get another small fill. I don't measure what I drink... I just sip all day long. I am unable to do the milky protien... it makes me nauseated. I eat about a cup of soup now but I started out at 1/2 cup after surgery. Have you tried Greek yogurt? It is really good and creamy and has lots of protien. Keep me posted on your progress. It is nice to have weight loss buddies that understand what you are going through. TTYS...

    New here...

I hate to be a bummer Ashly but the gas comes 3 or 4 days out. The shoulder pain came a week after surgery for me. I was very blessed though, it only lasted for an afternoon. Thank you Lord cause it was more painful than the surgery. I am 12 days post op and doing very well... down 22 pounds (including pre op diet). I don't crush my pills yet but the doc said I may have to after a fill. Take it easy and walk as much as you can... it really helps when the gas hits.

    Employer's plan specifically excludes WLS!

Nope! My employer does not pay for WLS either. I waited for years and finally gave in an paid for it myself. Go on... it will be the best thing you ever do for yourself!
  24. I am only 11 days post op and began walking a couple of days ago. I am walking at a steady pace for 30 minutes... about 1.5 miles. I walk in my neighborhood and we have hills and inclines. I have noticed that my port area is very sensative and sore ... even a bit of swelling. My doctor wants me to walk... I am just wondering if this is normal. I have been icing the port area and taking some liquid tylenol. Should I stop walking for a while or is this ok?:tongue2:
