Lapband placed in October, 2002. Port was placed in abdomen, not sub-sternally. Had port-site pain (severe) for 3 months; could not sleep on back, side, etc...couldn't sleep in my bed - had to sleep in recliner. Could work, could eat, but could not exercise. February 2003, port-revision...port removed and placed sub-sternally. However, even after having the band removed in 2005, I have permanent damage in the area where the port was originally placed. I get very painful abdominal muscle spasms, very much like a sudden charlie horse, if I bend over too many times. I've had to wear a boot on my leg (for a different health matter, obviously), and if I have to take it on and off repeatedly (to drive), I will get these spasms, and it can hurt for days just like if you have a charlie horse that is especially fierce. I do NOT have a hernia.I went from 320 pounds to 260, and now (2010) I am back at 320. Highest weight was 345 in 2008. I searched for a site like this to find out if anyone else has permanent muscle damage from their port.
