    Band Bashers

I was banded about 15 months ago so I don't know if I am a veteran but I have to say that banding was one of my best decisions. Now I didn't research all the different options much, but I knew that bypass was DEF NOT for me. I did do research on lap-bands- not on boards & groups I wasn't looking for opinions. I have lost 98 lbs & I had my TT 2 weeks ago. I never gained, but I had an awful plateau earlier this year. The band WILL work if u work with it. You can't continue to eat the same way. You have to eat slower, chew better and have much less on your plate; but you will feel fuller faster
  2. Hmmm- I don't have a card either. But typically I bring left overs home.
  3. The weight can be very stubborn. I plateaued from like Feb til May this year - my dr wasn't concerned, but I was. Have to tried taking in extra Protein & Water? Good luck

How much have you taken off???

If I can give you some advice that really helped me.... from the time I went onto mushies I told myself that I had restriction. I didn't allow myself to eat over a cup of food at meals. There are times now that I do, depending on the meal - but for the most part mentally challenging myself to be restricted from the beginning has been a key to my success, but I rarely and barely exercise (very bad I know).

    Freshly Banded!

Sore is perfectly normal. Take the meds the doctor gave you - remember to take them on schedule and not wait for the pain to start - they are the most effective if you are taking them before you have pain (stupid, but true). I do meds, ice pack, pillow on the tummy - and as much walking as you can handle.

    Freshly Banded!

First congrats to you!! Next for incision pain I used ice packs and a pillow!! They were wonderfully helpful
  9. I think Dave says it best. Personally I don't know much about the sleeve (except that it's not reversible) and I know far too many people who have had bypass problems. Know that your band would ultimately be a tool. If you don't work with it, it won't work with you. I do think a lot of successes with banding have to do eith the mental as well as the physical. For example I told myself from the beginning that I had "restriction"- so that't how I have lived since I was banded. I stay away from carbs (bread in particular). I think bands are WONDERFUL
  10. YES!!! the only thing I would change is I would not have hesitates abd I would have been banded sooner. I was 262 at my heaviest, banded 6/9/10, had my TT 8/26/11 and I am now 164. I was a size 22 and prob a 44 F bra- not about a size 10 and a 36DD

How much have you taken off???

I was banded 6/9/10 and I was 262 on that morning- today I am 164!
  12. Wish I was closer to you- but I am in New Britain, but I would gladly exchange emails or fb

    Post banding diet

I did mushy for a week after a week of liquids- it's all about the healing
  14. I can add I was never in a yon of pain - on the 1-10 pain scale I was never higher than a 4.5. The worst was getting out of bed the next day. Was hunched for 2 days.
  15. I just had my TT 8/26 and yes I would do it again - I am a 42 yr old wife and mother of 3 - and even after losing 98 lbs I felt bad about me: tbh I felt I looked worse than before surgery Even now with done swelling and still wearing the binder I feel better

    Lap Band

Sore, but not in pain. No surgical "problems", but I had to go have fluid drained today and I have a spot that isn't healing (uncommon problem). My TT was 8/26

    Another Question :)

Up your protein & water. You have to consume calories to lose weight. Many on here lose www.myfitnesspal.com website or app for calorie counting and support. But I think u need more calories

Deciding if this is for me

No one can tell you what is or isn't right for you, but I can give you my opinion on banding. I think it is a fantastic TOOL to help weight loss. It's not a magic item that causes the weight to melt - you have to be aware of what you are eating- for example, ice cream goes through a band wonderfully! It takes some work, but if weight loss is your goal & you are committed, you can easily lose the weight That being said I can tell you that I started at nearly 263 pounds and I was banded June 8, 2010; since then I have lost 98 pounds and just had my tummy tuck on August 26 My band is the BEST thing I have done for ME I wish you all the best in your journey :-)
  19. I was just in the hospital a week and a half ago (8/26) and my blood pressure was very low. I mean real low- bottom number in 40's and 50's the CNA was taking it every hour. I did pass out when I was about 6 months post op- I attributed that to dehydration. My surgeon doesn't seem concerned about the low pressure. Maybe it's our body's way of relaxing after our weight comes off

    Help!! Addicted to shopping

I tried to only buy a pair or 2 of jeans at a time. Just had my TT and now I can't wait to SHOP!!!

    A question for the ladys

They say that the surgery can mess with your schedule, because of the invasiveness to your body. Unfortunately mine didn't mess me up at all!! I wouldn't stress- just relax
  22. You're definite at a sucky part of your journey, but congrats on being banded. I don't regret my banding one bit. It's all in your mind set. You did this for yourself & for a good reason keep that in your mind. You will feel awesome as soon as u get onto mushys!! That will come soon. Stay strong
  23. Had hanging skin also- just had my TT on the 26th of August- well worth it
  24. Well, my tummy tuck and port replacement is tentatively scheduled for July 13. My choice to wait a bit because of a vacation at the beach. I admit I am a little nervous. I know it is not an easy surgery/recovery. But I am looking forward to being rid of the rolls that are continuing to make me self-conscious regardless of my weight loss

    Tummy Tuck Scheduled

I went to the doc on Friday and he removed both drains; have to stay in binder for a month. Have a small spot above pubic bone that is not healing well- dr doesn't seem overly concerned. I am kind of freakin. Treating with bacitracin right now. Will have to wait and see if that area of skin makes it or not. Still worth it/ I do love my flat tummy- even with the scar
