an offshoot of "Are you attracted to overweight people" thread..

I used to be thin(120) in high school and after meeting my husband. I started gaining weight after HS because I didn't excercise like I used to. I was in Poms in school and always busy doing things. Then once I met my DH we started eatin out at McDonald's all the time and I sat around alot more. We still did stuff but not like in HS. When we got married I weighed 160. My DH got a job on the railroad and with no kids I would eat when he got home no matter what time. By the time I got pregnant @ 26 I weighed 230. In 2004 I quit my job at a law firm and my husband and I started losing weight in Jan I lost 20lbs. On Feb. 13 my aunt who pretty much raised me found out she had lung cancer. At that point I didn't give a shit about nothin. My weight loss goals were out the window. She passed away in June of 06. I've been trying off and on this year to lose weight to no avail. I stepped on the scale in Aug. and was at 277lbs. my heaviest ever. I sat down and cried. I couldn't believe how I let myself go and the example I was setting for my son. I never did make fun of overweight people because I always had a prob. with my weight when I was growing up. My mom was always skinny and would put me on diets. It sucked. The best part was she had to have a hysterectomy 3 yrs ago and gained weight. I told her it's not so easy to take it off is it? Well that's my skinny to overweight story. I hope to be banned in the beginning of next year. I enjoy reading everyones success and complications with the band. There is no miracle cure for being overweight, it is something that we will have to deal with until we are called home. -
congrats. Hope all goes well.

I also have UHC thru my hubby who works for BNSF Railway. I called them and asked questions also. As always am never impressed when I talk to their representatives. The guy said it was covered we just had to talk to a Care coordinator. My bmi is 46 so I hope they don't give me too much grief.

Welcome. Please let us all know your experiences with being banded. -
Hi Piper, I'm new here also. I'm 5'4" and weigh 277. I've been thinkin about this for almost a year now. You have too make sure this is what you want don't let anyone "talk" u into it. I do my 1st seminar on the 6th of Dec. I hope everything moves smoothly for all of us waiting. Good luck

Way to go. Stories like yours make me want to have the surgery even more. Keep up the good work.

I made my decision to go to the first Seminar in Dec and decided to talk to my aunt (who had gastric bypass) and see what she thought. Of course the first thing out of her mouth was its not as good as what I had. I told her that it's what I chose and just thought she could help me. Now that she's a nurse she knows it all. Then she proceeds to tell me that she works with a guy who had it done 2 months ago and has only lost 27lbs. My thought was at least he's losing. You can't expect to be at your desired weight immediately. The only good thing is my sister is very supportive. She went to the same place for na seminar earlier this year but was told ins. didn't cover. Oh well at least I have her and my hubby.

When I told my hubby he was like so your suppose to lose it fast and not learn anything. when we saw her at a pizza place I seriously could not believe what she was eating. We know several people who have had bypass and are big again. I knew I had to do something my son is almost 8 and weighs 110 lbs. I need to learn to make better choices so he doesn't grow up to be like me. Thanx so much for the support everyone. It helps alot.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I just decided after many discussions with my husband to have the lapband surgery. I go to my seminar on Dec. 6. I probably won't have the actual surgery until the beginning of April because I drive a school bus and need to have some time off. I live in Central Illinois. If anyone has any experience with central Il please let me know. Thanks.
