I first hear about the Lap Band from a friend who traveled to Mexico to get it done.  She lost over 100lbs and her health improved greaty.  She recommended the surgery to me as she knew I had several health problems due to my weight.  High Blood pressure being one of them and saw me struggle.  One day I asked her about her jouney with the Lap Band and she explained that it saved her life!  She gave me the information to a Hospital in Mexico and I fill out the online questionnaire.  I also phoned the hospital and a patient coordinator emailed me a 12 page health and history form.  I filled it out and several days later she go back to me by email and explained that the doctor said that I qualified for the surgery as I have health related problems due to my weight and my BMI was 48 and that I was young 35 yrs old.  She explained that I would need to go on a liquid diet for 2 weeks before my surgery date and gave me this website to connect with and read all of the risks before making a desicion to get the lap band of gastric sleeve.  I am waiting for a date, travel arangements, and of course to paid for the procedure.  I will find out soon who my doctor will be, however my patient coordinator has been a hugh support, answering my questions, keeping in touch with me and explaining the process and changes I will need to make for the rest of my life.I guess I feel its time to start living my life as my current health stops me from doing things and I take a large amount of medication and feel that the cost of this surgery is nothing compared to 4 or 5 months of the cost of my medication.  I was also told that here in canada I can get my surgery and other cost related to the surgery covered by the provincial health care system and just need to submit it when doing my income tax next year.  I have read stories of people from the states having to go through tests, evaluations and wait 6 months to get a dision from there insurance.  Canada is different everyone gets health care and no one paids out of pocket here.  I have gotten tons of information from reading on this site and would love the support to help me with my success.
