Mashed Potatoes and Eggs?
Laylas grandma replied to craigmorganfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only did egg whites by themself and if I had yolk I add a little low fat mayo to moisten them up.sort of an egg salad. Instant mashed potatoes have come a long way also..I tried loaded mashed potatoes, garlic, and cheddar and chives they are very inexpensive and easy to make single portions. -
Feeling TOO good???
Laylas grandma replied to Luvtexas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Luvtexas that did work. I got the Jillian Michaels whey protein powder in chocolate and its really not that bad..My sweet husband baked a turkey breast then put the bird in the blender with some chicken broth...It was like thanksgiving dinner.. you know that feeling you get when you are just sick of chocolate and jello and cold stuff...man that soup was soo good and full of protein. -
First "real" meal post op
Laylas grandma replied to malinda1229's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will find when get the ok to eat that there will be some things you could eat in the past that you just cant tolerate now. So take it slow and I would suggest trying new foods at home before you try them in a resteraunt. Nothing like heaving up this foamy nasty stuff in the middle of a room full of people who are trying to enjoy their meal. So far I have found that I can not tolerate chicken, peaches, lemons or anything breaded and fried. I have also found that I can tolerate all baked or broiled seafood and tossed salad... go figure. This is definitely a journey but with great rewards in the end so have fun... -
I have a post op diet question...
Laylas grandma replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing is if you are not eating a protein based soup you need to add the protein powder....its hard enough to get enough protein liquids down but to have to get non protein liquids down too is hard...Not enough protein and You Will Crash!!! thats not a good thing to have happen..My husband had to come to my job and get and put me to bed. -
finally feeling good
Laylas grandma replied to azarellanos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ill never forget the morning I woke up and realized I had been sleeping on my stomach...Ive felt like myself ever since :rolleyes2: -
The morning I had surgery I weighed 261 pounds (NO PREOP DIET). On the same scales one week later I weighed 238 pounds. Thats 23 pounds in one week. I know this was mostly fluid but here I am nine days after that and Im only up a pound and thats mostly because I started eating food and am not on the liquid diet. Each person is different just like I had no pain with surgery some have lots, some have nausea and some don't. Some have four or five fills and then there is my friend Jimmy who had to have his second one removed because he lost 25 pounds too much. Now he cant gain the weight back. Pay close attention to your body and what you can and can not do...Do not compare yourself to others. THE WEIGHT WILL COME OFF THATS A GIVEN!! One of the women in my support group lost from a size 22 to a size 6 in 9 months. If I do that wonderful if it takes me two years thats wonderful too...It sure took me a heck of a lot longer than two years to put it on. Good Luck :rolleyes2:

Feeling TOO good???
Laylas grandma replied to Luvtexas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im on day 16 now and I never had any pain either. I have had other problems like crashing from not enough protein. I learned that lesson the hard way.. Constipation for 6 days straight wow Thank God for Milk Of Magnesia. Right now my biggest problem is the itching from the incisions...Anybody got a good remedy? -
OK guys I was banded July 14th. Today I went for my 1 week check up. I haven't had any real problems. Yesterday my husband had to pick me up at work early cause I was having cold sweats and feeling light headed. Found out I was not getting enough Protein. Some turkey broth cured that right up. Well Todays a different story. The doc says my port site is a little red and swollen and he put me on antibiotics come back in a week. He said its only been 8 days it could be alot of bruising but he wants to make sure..Im a nervous wreck I have heard horror stories..There is no pain in the area. Has anybody else seen redness and swelling in the port area 8 days out?

I am on my count down. 10 days til surgery. My problem is this Im excited nervous scared worried and any other emotion you can think of. Is this normal? Ive wanted this for so long that I thought I would just be excited and be done with it but the closer my surgery date gets here the more I find to worry about. Like what if I mess up and dont chew my food enough or if I drink something while im eating. God knows I dont wanna get food stuck. Ive heard some horror stories. What if I go through all of this and dont lose any weight.Every thing is just swarming in my head, so much that I cant concentrate on other things. Somebody please tell me this is normal.

Day 3 of Post Op
Laylas grandma replied to HoneyBrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nicci my doc told me to sip til im full of broth and sugar free clear drinks and Water. This stuffs gonna go right through you. The Protein in the broth will give you energy, fill you up and help you lose. As far as the gas pains Ive been fortune so far (knock on wood) but everybody that I have read post on it says to walk it out. -
I was told by my dietician that sugar free is for lifetime if I want to lose and keep it off. My surgeon and dietician said anything with splenda or equal was fine. I just faced the fact that I can NEVER EVER have any Gum, Sugar,Carbonated drinks, or fried foods AGAIN Doctors and Dieticians orders. Plus I have to limit small amounts of the white stuff (bread, pasta, potatos, and rice)

I'm a newbie! 3 day Post Op!
Laylas grandma replied to ValInMiami's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded yesterday and I can honestly say I haven't had any real pain..Im a little sore in my belly when I get up and down or turn over in the bed but other than that so far so good. Only taken pain meds before bed to help me sleep. Right after surgery I had a sore throat from the tubes but warm broth helped that. Please dont let this stop you its well worth it. If you do have pain your surgeon will give you something for it. Good Luck to you.. Sherri -

Let's Get This Party Started
Laylas grandma replied to DiValencia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my surgery about 10:30 yesterday and am doing great also. I too woke up this morning wanting to go walk around the block but decided to wait til tomorrow. Sore throat is finally gone thanks to warm broths. I had severe ankle and heel pain on my left foot before surgery that too is gone. Nice to be able to walk without pain. Im thinking it will probably be back after all the anesthetia is out but heres to hoping it stays gone. My sight is also off, has anybody experienced this? Im reading with my glasses and its like I dont have them on. I've not had any gas yet and fell asleep sitting up but woke up on my side, it helped taking pain meds right before sleep. Just got on the scales and I have lost 7 pounds since Monday...Woo hoo Sherri -

Laylas grandma replied to Espresso88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WooHoo!!!!! I'm getting banded in 5 and a half hours and I just realized all of the emotions, jitters and fears are gone now. Double WooHoo!!!!! I'm ready to get this over with and to start on my journey!!!! WISH ME LUCK!!!!!! -
Someone suggested to me that I cook my own protein, fruits and veggies in bulk and use the blender, then fill up ice cube trays to freeze them and then freezer bags to store them. Each cube is exactly 1 ounce. Just pop in the microwave. Hope this helps.

Laylas grandma replied to dreamingofbeingskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG I have secretly wanted to be a runner for years but never told anyone because of my size..I thought they would laugh at me.I know its probably just my low self esteem. Well my surgery is in six and a half hours so I think Ill wait a couple days. LOL -

Remember No Question Is A Dumb Question...Ask lots of them. Even if you think you already know the answer because your surgeons answer may be a bit different. Good Luck to you and trust me after its over you will say OMG that wasnt so bad. -

The dietitian
Laylas grandma replied to ToLoveMyself's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow my doctor only required me to have a 30 minute consult with his dietician yet she sat with my husband and I for an hour to make sure we understood everything and didnt have any more questions. She was wonderful and gave me her number if I ever wanted to talk. If you like this surgeon I wouldnt change but I would sure talk to him about it. If you are feeling uncomfortable then more than likely others are too. The team doesnt know that there is a problem with a member if its not reported. Good Luck to you,
