    hiatal hernia

Oh dear. I had my endoscopy last week and I too, have hiatal hernia. From the sounds of everything hear, I guess I have some shoulder pain ahead of me!
  2. Ok, you totally have me laughing! When they hooked my up, I had them take a picture of me with my phone and sent it to my husband for a good laugh. You definitely have to have a sense of humor with the head strap and mask over the face. Not sure what is more of a turn on for my husband....the mask or the previous snoring and snorting that could be heard three blocks away.

    2 years after banding

You look beautiful. I am so very happy for you and I look forward to getting banded. What a journey you have had. Stay strong and God bless.
  4. I had to go through two sleep studies and was actually glad that my surgeon made me do it. I was mortified at first to go through with the study and be hooked to everything, but I took a xanax and didn't have a problem falling asleep. They discovered that I woke up an average of 40 times per hour. No wonder I was always sleepy during the day and would fall asleep all the time. I had no energy to do anything other than survive the day taking care of my two toddlers. I know have the CPAP and as much as I find it annoying, the benefits outweight the drawbacks. In addition, I know once I lose the weight, I probably won't need it anymore. It is nice to have energy again. I can exercise! I can play more with my children and I don't have to nap during the day. It has made a big difference. I do, however, have trouble falling asleep with it on if I don't take a xanax or some tylenol PM. I hate to have to take something, but again, I am actually getting some sleep. The number of times I stop breathing during the night has been reduced by more than half. It's not the most flattering aparatus, but it's tempory. I am glad that I have it.

    What will you miss???

    I will miss pizza!
  6. That's awesome. You don't hear of those stories often. Good for you. So are you waiting for your surgery or did you have it already? I started a program in January, lost my required weight but really did not like the local bariatric program. Something just did not feel right to me. So I followed my instinct and found a program about an hour away that was a much better fit for me. Unfortunately, I had to lose an additional 10 pounds, but it was worth it. I am happy with the program and am awaiting approval.
  7. Obviously, my husband knows and he has been my biggest supporter and biggest fan. I told my two closest friends, and decided I would tell my immediate family, but the responses haven't always been supportive or positive. I agree with not telling anyone and I wish that I didn't tell a few people. This is a huge decision and anyone who hasn't been through what we have does think it is the easy way out. I am sick of people's opinions quite honestly. I should have done this only with my husband, but it is too late now. I started thinking about this one year ago and decided to start the process in January. I initially had doubts but as the year progessed and the worse my health was getting I know I made the best decision of my life. I am moving forward and not looking back. I am 100 % ready and am totally positive and do not want negativity in my life. It is harmful and unhealthy on so many levles. I am happy for you and wish you all the best in the world. Thank you for responding.
  8. That is why I am worried....my BMI wasn't 40, but I have a list of comomorbidities a mile long, which are documented. I don't see why my insurance company wouldn't approve since I meet the requirements, but I guess you never know with insurance companies. I eagerly awai the newst!
  9. Thank you so much. That makes me feel better! I have all sollid documentation so i hope i get my approval soon! I can't wait!
  10. It is a very long process! I started the process in January and my doctor is sending his letter to the insurance company for approval today! Hang in there...there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am actually grateful for the time it takes because it is a BIG decision and commitment. It provides time to reflect on so many things. I had my GI work done yesterday (endoscopy) and my surgeon discovered I had hiatal hernia, which explains my heartburn and chest pain. Hang in there and I wish you the best.
  11. If you have a lot of family and friends around, it will be ok. I had major surgery when my children were 1 and 2. I was so worried about not being able to lift and hold them, however, we were able to have a lot of snuggle time on the couch. They knew mommy wasn't feeling good and they were wonderful. In fact, your child is what will keep you plugging away and remaining positive and motivated. Your child will be fine. It's more important to your child that you are healthy mentally and physically. The few weeks you can't lift her is minimal to the significant benefits you will experience in the future.

    Need Advice

First of all...I love your the festivus! You must be a fellow Seinfeld fan. Thanks for the advice. I started a really low fat, low carb, high Protein diet last Thursday and I am down 6 pounds...4 more to go! I have been staying away from the corn, peas, potatoes as you said. It really does work. I also have been working out like a mad woman. PS...my family does a festivus celebration every year so we can have airing of grievances.
  13. I did not get my surgery yet, however, my doctor is ready to send his letter to the insurance company for approval. Unfortunately, my insurace requires that I lose six more pounds so my doctor is waiting until I can lose the weight prior to submitting. HELP! I have six more pounds to go and I am struggling. I am eating very low carb, low fat, and high protein. I am also exercising two times a day. Any suggestions on how I can get these resistant pounds off so I can get a date scheduled?!?!?
  14. Has anyone had lap band surgery and NOT had it done laparoscopically? I have had surgery in the past that required removing and replacing my belly button so my surgeon may have to perform the surgery with an incision on the side of my abdomin. Any one have this done?
  15. Yes, I was happy to see that there. I appreciate that you took the time to welcome me. That means a lot! I have all clearances except for the pulmonologist. I had my sleep apnea study last night and apparently I have sleep apnea. I meet with my doctor again in July (he is on vacation for much of June) and then I submit to insurance. I hope they will approve it because I don't have a BMI of 40. I had a BMI of 39 with comorbidities, so I am worried that they will deny it. I will pray about it and leave my anxieties in God's hands.

Are you feeling really good? Out of curiosity, did you go through the depression that they say often happens about a months after surgery?

    Talk to you soon

  16. Well hello there. Thank you so much....I would love to become lapband friends. This is my first invite and I need support too.

How are you feeling after your surgery? I see you already lost 25 pounds. Amazing! I will look forward to your advice and tips as I begin my journey.

I just got home from my sleep apnea sleep study...what a treat that was.

Talk to you soon. Stay positive and focused!

    Pre op to post op

I am so happy for both of you! Can you believe it is only a couple of days away? It has been a long journey to get to this point and the next part of the journey shall bring so many rewards to your mental and physical health. Please keep me posted on how everything goes for you because my surgery is coming up and I would love to have your feedback and encouragement. I don't have my date yet, however, I have all my clearances and have my final meeting with the doctor in July. (he's on vacation in June!!!) so we can send in the insurance requirements and hope for an approval! There are so many emotions involved in this process and I am just happy that we have the ability to speak with eachother. It's amazing the bond you can have with people you don't even know. I will include you in my prayers this evening. Stay brave and strong and know that we are all here for eachother.

Is this normal after a tummy tuck?

I had a tummy tuck and lipo in 2008 after having two very large babies. I had two drains for at least one week and was on pain medication for quite some time. I had a required band around my belly, which I wore for six weeks and then I had to wear Spanx for several months afterward. Now, the doctor had to do more work than anticipated, but I can't imagine not having the band and spanx for support. It helped sp much. This procedure was the most painful experience of my life. It made my two c-sections seem like a day at the park. You will be swollen for a long time and will actually look better 1-2 years after the procedure, which is what I was told was normal and it is exactly what I experienced. My belly is still numb, but in retrospect, it was worth what I went through. Hang in there. It truly is a long healing process.
  19. I too have PCOS, prediabetes, and am hyperinsulinemic. I was able to conceive after I started taking the metformin which is often used for the conditions I mentioned. s Has your doctor discussed this medication with you?
