    I told my husband

I always fibbed a little with my husband..I couldnt bare to tell him Id gotten up to 300lbs before surgery but he came to my first appt with me and I told him to stay in the room until I got weighed but after that I realized that if I was going to expect him to be with me all the way on this journey I had to be honest..plus if he thought I weight 240 and I was 300 I couldnt share in the accomplishments !! that sucked..so I told him...I was still embarrassed though, when I met him I was 220 so to think in 6 years I gained 80lbs while with me I thought he would be like WTF?? but he didnt say anything and is really supportive...
  2. i thought the same thing..no one called me either after my surgery...I thought they really should have. I didnt talk or see anyone until my first wee checkup...I think they should call at least the day after surgery to check in even if its just the office manager or nurse calling....
  3. Dont watch it!! before surgery my husband and I would watch the food network and the DIY network all weekend..and I know how hungry it would make me and it always made me want to eat..Im the same way with looking at cookbooks...so I do not allow foodnetwork on in my home anymore and even though I bought about 4 weight loss surgery cookbooks, I havnt opened them yet!! sounds kinda extreme but these are my triggers to want to eat and make myself hungry:) or think Im hungry...
  4. Oh man, I really feel bad for you and I am so sorry this is happening. I am selfpay too and paid out 15grand. I was banded just a few days after you on 7/30...and something happening was my worse fear...try to stay positive and at least you got it drained and hopefully you will heal and not lose your band..I will say a prayer for you!! Hang in there and try to just keep doing what your doing with your eating and habits and hopefully before you know it your healed and nothing bad...*hugs*

    Is this normal?

Yes!! all normal..I had it REALLY bad the first week....it will pass just keep taking gas x, walking and sipping slowly..my dr. told me to even take a couple minutes between sips..even though I thought that was crazy it worked. Hang in there.
  6. I am in my 7th week and I feel the same way...when I went for my first fill the dr told me to start only eating a half a cup per sitting but half a cup does NOTHING for me...I feel like I didnt eat anything..I get full usually after about a cup and half of food but I always try to eat lean protein and veggies. Im not losing quickly at all and averaging about a pound a week sometimes less so I am disappointed. I am hoping that my next fill in Oct. gives me more restriction!! Good luck!
  7. My husband was my life line at the hospital..he stayed the entire 32 hours with me and even stayed in the room, even though I had a flippen drama queen filled roommate!!! He helped me up all night, unplugged my lines and leg massagers..the nurses joked that they were going to put him on payroll because he did so much!! I would never of gotten through that experience without him!
  8. I did alot of research on here about that since after my first fill I didnt feel anymore restriction and I was getting worried. alot of people said they had a delayed reaction to the fill and it took a couple days to a week to feel the fill. I never really got anymore restriction and its been a week so I was disappointed. I had one day where I felt like I was more full faster but than i was back to being hungry and wanting more the next day. I am hoping my next fill will get me more restriction. Glad you have some though!
  9. Hi, I had surgery onJuly 30 so we are about the same. Iv had one fill and barly felt a difference. I still have a pretty big appetite. A typical day for me right now until I get more restriction is a weight watcher breakfast sandwich, usually lunch will be about a cup to cup and half of food..like today I had 5 shrimp and a cup of brown rice and broccoli, 5 pretzel crackers for snack and for dinner I made chicken chili and I had about 1 cup. I also drink about 40oz of water a day...I wouldnt survive off a half a cup of food at a sitting yet..I found that if I eat protein like straight chicken breast I get fuller faster and stay full longer so I try to do mostly protein, which is what your suppose to do anyway.I still have my hungry times during the day and I wish I was one of the lucky ones who had restriction right away or after the 1st fill!! some days I eat a little more and somedays a little less but on average I am at 3 meals a day at least a cup per meal and usually snack once or twice on something. Hang in there it is tough at times but hopefully our sweet spot will come soon!

    older?

Iv read that in several different places that you do end up looking older after losing weight..I see it in my friends that have had the surgery..it sucks though...I also saw a documentary on weight loss one day last year and they did this study on age and it talked about how larger people look younger than skinnier because of the fat cells....hey, I guess we cant have it all..I keep trying to get my husband to allow me to get botox after I lose weight but he isnt buying it!!

    2nd Fill - Too Tight???

I had my first fill last week and I didnt feel hardley any restriction they gave me 3cc's but today feeling a little for some reason..I have a feeling with my 2nd fill Im gonna feel something like you though...I know how you feel..the first week after surgery I could barley get down water but ended up finding out they left 2cc's of fluid in my band during surgery and wasnt suppose to so they took it out and instant relief but than got hungry as hell..I dont think I could go through that discomfort again but at least I know what it feels like..they say it will loosen up in a week or two...
  12. Yes, I had the same thing for the first week to 2 weeks...it will go away..just take it easy and if for some reason it doesnt call and see your doctor..I had a really tough first week and finally called the doctor because I wasnt starting to feel better and he ended up taking 2'ccs out of my band..fluid left in there during surgery that wasnt suppose to be there...

    Hit a setback :(

Hi Kelly. sorry to hear you went through that but at least it wasnt anything too serious and you got it taken care of.. hopefully once you go back for your fill all will be ok and you can start losing again..great job on the working out.
  14. plenty of pillows!! I friggin surrounded myself with pillows at night under by belly, behind my back, between my legs and 2 under my head! it kept me so comfortable at night and oh yea my handy dandy Magic Bullet..Im in week 6 so I dont use it much anymore but the first couple weeks I used it all the time.

    Fill er up Doc!

Wish mine did too!! I just had my first fill and 5 days later no restriction....he even put in 3'cc's...cant wait for my next fill...
  16. I often have wondered the same thing...I used to take phentermines but they made me too damn uptight and spazzy but I have several left that i could take and actually thought about it because Im in big time bandster hell but I decided against it..I wondered if they would upset my stomach more easily. I think the main reason I dont want to take them is because they never worked in the past for me and I spent alot of money on this surgery and trying to just suck it up and stick to it until I get restriction..but I wouldnt be against taking the pills but not sure what the doctors say about it.
  17. Hey there! I am 6weeks out post surgery. The first thing you need to do is research, research, research. On this site, at support groups and meeting with your doctor and online. If you havn't done diets before like Weight Watchers you should do that as well to ensure that you have covered your basis and tried everything. I feel this surgery should be a last resort after years of weight struggles and failed diets or lifestyle changes. I am early on and I have struggles with the band but I never once wished I didnt get it. It just takes alot more patience thn I expected but I went into it knowing and honestly saying I tried everything! Good luck in your journey, this site is great and helped me through every step!!
  18. Wow, im jealous!! that is super fast but if it works it works! lucky you guys! Congrats.

    Halloween Challenge

Just keyed mine in...wasnt sure what would be a good goal for me. I just had my first fill and very little restriction so I am hoping I can lose at least another 10lbs.
  20. Thanks Betsy, I did ask my doctor when I got my fill if I didnt feel anything and was still hungry a week later and doing what I should if I could come back in for a fill sooner..he said no at the time and said that I would have to wait for 6 weeks because it can sometime take some time to really feel the fill and it gives my stomach more time to adjust. I am going to at least give it a week but I think it cant hurt to try to call them If I am still feeling this way.
  21. Ok, so I was banded on July 30th, had my first fill on Tuesday (2 days ago). I am really bummed because its been a struggle for me for the past few weeks to eat smaller portions and eat healthy and start walking but I just kept thinking the fill was only a few weeks away and that I will have to have at least some more restriction but NO, got my fill and dont feel any different at least as of day two, Im so frustrated. I know that it doesnt happen for alot of people after their 1st fill but I was just really hoping it would. I feel like I paid 15grand to just be on yet another strict diet. I cannot believe that I got 3'cc's and can still eat more than a cup of food without any issues. i had steak and veggies for lunch today with no problems and even though I couldnt finish my meal..an hour later Im hungry again! Iv lost 25lbs so far but havnt lost any in 2 weeks. I have to wait another 6 weeks now for my next fill..at this rate it will take me forever to lose weight. Sorry, but Im just frustrated today and tired of being hungry. I thought I got myself out of this attitude last night but it creeped back in again and looking for my fellow bandsters to help me see the light at the end of the tunnel...how did you all continue to lose weight when the fills didnt yet work for you???
  22. I am jealous too... but congrats!!!! keep up the great work.
  23. Thanks everyone...it does help to hear that other people went through or are going through the same thing...I really am trying to be more positive and your right Carosel, even though I can eat a cup I need to just measure out the half and be done. I just want to be succesful and you know you can read and study on all this before surgery but nothing really prepares you till you live it yourself....I just wasnt prepared to not have more restriction with my first fill!!

    Is Food Still Your Enemy...

Your not alone!!! I was banded about a month after you...food is a never ending battle! I had my first fill yesterday and still can eat as much as I could before the fill..so frustrating. I have lost some weight but its been 80% me and 20% the band. the doctor even put in 3cc's yesterday for a total of 4 and still not good restriction. I havnt lost any weight in 2 weeks. I did find that if I eat carbs I dont lose at all..but if I cut out on the carbs and eat more protein and some veggies I start losing a little again. Carbs make me feel bloated and I honestly think that for some people carbs just dont work. Good luck in your journey..its definitly a process and not one that goes fast, at least for most people.
  25. Im 6 weeks out and just had my first fill..so far nothing has bothered me but maybe that will change as I get my fills...I can eat bread, meat veggies, skin of meat..whatever..
