I had my surgery on Thursday and went back to work on Monday. It's so different for everyone!

how am i supposed to consume 1500 calories a day?
laurigee replied to angieband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My philosophy is, I don't care about a persons title, not everyone is good or capable of the profession they have chosen! People with degrees should have to put their college GPA next to their name on their name tag so we can make a better decision on whether we are going to put our lives in their hands! LOL -
4th fill and suddenly no restriction
laurigee replied to busymama3's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you felt you had good restriction is there a reason you received another fill? -
Have you ever been given a cracker at a fill???
laurigee replied to hely88's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I guess that's kind of my point, that everyone is different! If I can't eat a cracker and drink Water at the same time without it coming back up with no fill, would that surgeon refuse to ever give me a fill based on his philosophy? I've had the band for over 6 years and have never been able to eat then drink something! If you have a philosophy or theory there should be more criteria to base it on than the cracker and water test! I guess I just find that kind of funny! I'm Not disagreeing with him, I would just have to understand his reasoning if I were to continue to see him. -
Are these feelings normal?

Make sure you continue to take deep breaths even though it hurts, you need to keep your lungs clear! I wish you a speedy recovery! -
There is a common problem I have been seeing on this site! I am guilty of the same offense! We stop going to our appointments for many different reasons! The people that seem to be successful are very diligent in following EVERY rule, which includes regular doctor visits! I think if we all start by making appointments and keeping them we will be just as successful as those we admire for their accomplishments! I have started by making an appointment in March! Good Luck to everyone, and let's get this back on track!

Starting over, 5 years after surgery
laurigee replied to TheCurvyMermaid's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's so hard to hear things we don't want to hear! I guess we need to put our faith in the surgeons we chose and hope for the best! I remember when I was having a hard time with getting fills. Even .5 was too much! I was so disappointed to know that there was nothing that could be done to correct it. It was putting to much pressure on my vagus nerve and it was just to hard on me! It caused severe pain in my back, neck, shoulder and gave me horrible headaches. I trusted my surgeon and trusted the process and was able to lose over 100 pounds. I recently gained some back and am working to get that off. I guess my point is, sometimes everything doesn't go exactly like we want it, but if you stay positive and focused it will work out! I wish you ladies the best! -
Thanks for the info, I just ordered it! No matter how much we think we know there is always something we can learn! Can't wait to get it!

I personally do cardio one day then weights the next. My use of weights is to strengthen my body and tone. If I can do 3 sets of 12 easily it's not enough weight. By your 3rd set I feel I need to push to get in the last few reps. I leave very little time between sets and very little time getting to the next exercise! This is giving me cardio affects also! There have been new studies that show weight resistance exercise burns calories and fat faster than cardio alone. I personally could never lift weights at the level it would take to add weight! Good muscle tone and Strength is just as important as working on your heart rate and endurance. It makes for a healthy total package. Remember, you may need to experiment, everyone's bodies are different and respond differently! This is a lifelong commitment, so don't be afraid to take time to see what works best for you!

Glad that everything is going so well for you! Keep your positive attitude and you'll do great!

I'm not sure if I read one correct thing in that article! Don't panic about your surgery. The band is awesome if you use it properly! The crap about constantly vomitting and not being able to eat certain foods is ridiculous! You can control that! If you like your band on the tighter side, there probably will be foods you can't eat, however, a lot of us keep it at a level that is keeping us satisfied longer on less food rather than no allowing us to eat certain foods! Don't let the haters scare you!
-
Well, I wish I didn't read her article before getting ready for bed! Now I'm really irritated and worked up! Why did I come on here one last time before bed? Lol

What a great achievement! Congratulations! Welcome to this site, there are a lot of great people here with awesome advise and support!

Have you ever been given a cracker at a fill???
laurigee replied to hely88's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have no fluid in my band and if I eat and then try to drink right away things tend to come up! Don't get the reasoning! -

If they're going to feed you crackers they could at least give you a nice glass of wine to wash it down instead of water! -
I'm sorry for your losses! Last year my dad passed away from cancer and then 6 months later my 24 year old niece died unexpectedly from a lung problems. It can really mess with your emotions and consume your days with other thoughts than taking care of yourself! During this time I also stopped going to my appointments! I really think that is where we goofed up! The accountability and getting your band to a place where fills are working for you. I have made an appointment with my surgeon next month and plan on getting back on track. I haven't been able to get fills in the past because of problems and I'm going to give it another try! I think you have taken the right first step by making an appointment! Good luck

I have certain things that start a binge...for me it's potatoes or anything made from them. If I eat just one bite it's downhill from there. Maybe keep track of what you ate and what your mood was before the binge. This is how I figured out that I wasn't bindging because of emotions but because my brain goes haywire when I eat certain foods! My emotional binges are very different, I don't eat as many different items, just a lot of 1. Don't beat yourself up over it, try to figure it out! Good luck!

Get this band out of me... AGAIN!
laurigee replied to Kristina J.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So sorry to hear about all your problems with the band! It had to be very frustrating! Thank goodness that there is other alternatives that will help you achieve your goals. Good luck on your success in the future! -
Sleeve Forum is wrong about the band
laurigee replied to Creekwood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are right! You could spend your whole life throwing up if you eat to fast, don't chew your food, or your band is to tight! To bad they don't share the reasons why this could happen. -
I was not heavy my whole life, I started having problems after my second son was born. After that I never had a problem losing the weight, however, I had the problem maintaining it! I would lose 40, then gain back 60. Lose that 60, gain back 80. And so on, until I was almost 300 pounds! I was self pay so I had guilt about spending the money. I can tell you for certain that if I didn't get the band when I did I would have broke the 300 pound mark by now! I can also tell you for certain that the money I saved for the procedure wouldn't be sitting in the bank, we would have spent it somewhere else. I was questioning whether I could do it, and do it without the band. It was my husband that explained to me that if there is something out there that can help when you need it, take the help! So I was banded and very happy that I made that choice!

Don't dwell on the past, you can't change it, it's over! Learn from it, move on and don't make the same mistake a day longer! Don't waste the present and future by dwelling on the past! Think of it as a learning period that will help you to achieve your dreams for your future! We all have regrets, that's life! It's never to late to grab the brass ring, you just have to go fo it! Good luck, and stop being ashamed of yourself, it only holds you down!
