Are We ready for a Black President?
laurigee replied to TheWatcher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Melolo: I do hope that I am talking to future millionaires. I hope at that point you look back at alot of these things written that pigenhole the wealthy as non-given greedy people. There are many that are very generous and giving people. The Watcher: How come you and Melolo complain about me calling you sour, where is your think skin? seriously Man UP! This is my last post to this site I think it may be getting a little off track for me and a little to negative. I think maybe democrates need only apply. I have been called unchristian, uncaring, and received more personal attacks on this site. I too, just like everyone thought you wanted peoples opinions. Mine -
Help! I feel discouraged after 4 fills I still have very little restriction!
laurigee replied to coolchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It just holds less fluid. I'm not sure why but my doctor said that he would decide which band he would use once he got in there. No clue. -
I'm so depressed, I think this was the worst mistake ever.
laurigee replied to blackcherry2002's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
blackcherry: I know how you feel, I too was a slow loser. It has taken me over 2 years and I still have 11 pounds to go. 1-2 pounds a week is all you are suppose to lose. I did the same as you, no weight loss one week then a couple pounds the next. If it makes you feel better, most of the people who had surgery the same time as I did, but reached their goal within a year have had to have plastic surgery. My skin has shrank along with my body. At 41 I didn't think that was going to happen. Maybe you could think of the positives that go along with slow weight loss. Good Luck to you and it sounds like many people have given you great advise. -
This was one of the warning signs that my doctor told me about when you are too tight. He also said that if I experience this I should call immediately. He said that you could be aspirating fluids and they could get into your lungs and cause pnemonia or other serious problems. Be honest with your doctor to avoid any problems in the future. He won't remove anything if you tell him what your experiencing and he thinks it isn't jeopordizing you or the band. Good Luck to you and let us know how it goes.

Help! I feel discouraged after 4 fills I still have very little restriction!
laurigee replied to coolchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have the same story as both of you. I never really felt like I had alot of restriction. I am at 3.9cc in my 4cc band, and tommorrow I am calling for another fill. I would tell you both to be patient(just like everyone else). It has taken me over 2 years but it eventually starts to work(then stops, then works, then stops) For me it has been a real mind game, but well worth the wait. I am now only 11 pounds til goal. Staying persistant is the key. coolchick, I do think that you may need another fill. Good Luck to both of you. -
For those of you with a 4cc band only!
laurigee replied to coolchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been banded since 2006 and I have had 8 fills. I really have never had great restriction. I am at 3.9cc in my 4cc band and I am going to call for an appointment tommorrow for another fill. I hope this helps me get to goal but who knows. I have always been able to eat whatever I want, and that includes bread. But the band obviously is helping because I have lost weight over the last few years, which I wasn't able to do on my own. -
ASHLEYRENEE: I think we all fall of the wagon. I'm impressed that you recognized it and corrected it so fast. Last winter it happened to me and I gained about 15 pounds before I could shake myself out of it. With your attitude I have no doubt that you are going to be successful with your weight loss and maintenance.

Renewedhope: I just seen that you ran a 5K, that's AWESOME. I was hoping to do that yet this year but I think my chances are limited now. I live in WI and am not fond of going outside in the cold weather. I run on the treadmill but for some reason when I run outside it seems harder. I think it may be that you have the treadmill moving you where outside its all you. Also my knees bother me more outside. Any suggestions I would appreciate it. Again, Congratulations!

I guess some are bamboozaled by the right and some bamboozaled by the left. I guess it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. The world is what it is and all we can do is our best to have a clear consience when we put our head on the pillow at night. God bless -

What is a fair share? Do the middle class not care about taking care of the sick and poor that are dying? No matter what your income you should be christian. I would love to be nieve enough to think that all the money goes to those who are deserving and needy. But the truth of it is as many loopholes that the rich find the poor find as many to receive money dishonestly. Not very christian. Trust me you do not pay the majority of taxes. There are those of us that are honest and work hard for 12+ hours a day and deserve what we have. It seems that you may have some contempt for people who have worked hard and earned their success. I give to local schools, police, cancer society(am a cancer survivor), hopital, ect. And also volunteer my time(what little is left) and am insulted that you would say that is mainly for a tax write off. How christian of you! -

Are We ready for a Black President?
laurigee replied to TheWatcher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I can honestly say that I could care less what race Obama is. I truly do care that he is instilling the wrong message to our young children. If you succeed in this world it is your job to take care of others that may choose not to work at all. And if you have never paid into taxes a day in your life, we will reward you by giving you more money. If to succeed you work 12 hours a day you should give your money to those who choose to work 8 or less hours a day or not at all. No matter what I make it should be mine to choose what I do with it. Does the government have a right to give it to someone else? What have those of you who believe in REDISTRIBUTING THE WEALTH done to earn a portion of my paycheck? I realize that free money sounds good to everyone, but those of us that have sacrafised many things to get to where we are today may be a little upset or synical. Remember, without big business having an incentive to stay in the United State (highest tax) , that no one has jobs. We need to give big businesses tax breaks. Why should they stay here and not go to China. They don't owe you a living. But in Todays America to many people think they do. -
It seems like your habits have to change in order to be successful. I have issues with commiting to anything for very long myself. It sucks! One thing that is true about the band is that it makes you eat less. But unfortunately it doesn't give you the desire to exercies. So, if we really want to be healthier, and not just thinner, it's something we have to do. I like to join weight loss challenges on this site. I also like to do weight loss and exercise tickers. Just remember, no one is perfect all the time. Don't beat yourself up. Every day is a new day. Notice the things that set you up for failure and try to avoid them. Good Luck and keep me posted on your progress.

Momof2: Why did they take all of it out? Why do you have to do the pre-surgery diet again? When you are overfilled they just usually take a little out at a time. Sometimes that's all it takes. Have you contacted your doctor and told him that your having a hard time? Don't mean to be so nosey, just curious.

I am SO SORRY for your loss, and my best friend is also a breast cancer survivor. You are obviously a very strong determined woman, I seen what she went through and I know you have to be. I do agree, sometimes I do get caught up with the numbers. Truthfully, I have had to realize that I will never get to the magic number the doctors feel I should be. I have chosen a number where I know I will be healthy and strong. I actually just upped my goal weight to 10 more pounds heavier than I origanally had in my head. I have been going by 10 pound steps and seeing how I feel. If I stay my current weight I will be happy. I do have overeating issues, so I have to regulate myself with the scale. Good Luck to you and I hope that I in no way offended you, and thanks for sharing a part of your story, it really put life into perspective. THANKS!

I love the "LAST WEIGHT OF 08". To me that sounds like it is the end of something old and the beginning of something new. Leave all them old pounds in 08 and never see them again! WHEN DO WE START, IM READY!

Cleo's Mom: In my case the band does help me eat smaller portions. There is no way that for the 2 1/2 yrs I have had the band that I can say that I haven't been hungry. I think if you look at alot of the people that have been sucessful with the band they have commited to changing their lives drastically. Most of us when we hit maintanance level, are on some type of program like weight watchers or protein rich diets. Which we now consider a way of life. You are still new to the band and for alot of us it does get tougher as time goes on if you are a slow losers. Everyone eventually finds their own path and way to deal with the weight loss demon. But as far as saying pre-band routes may not work for you, remember, never say never. The same things you may have failed at before may work well with the help of the band. I LOVE weight watcher now, I wasn't a big fan prior to banding. How much weight have you lost? You should use a ticker, it really is inspirational for yourself and others during your journey. I hope you continue to love your band as much as I do. Congratulations on your journey to a new healthier you!

how many fills does it take...one,two,three..?
laurigee replied to justicenyce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before I would get another fill I would go back to basics. I would make sure that I am not drinking 1hour before meals, with meals, and not at least 1 hour after a meal. Am I eating slowly, am I eating the foods that will stay the longest in my stomach (protiens, definately not soup). Am I head hungry or really hungry. It is okay to feel hungry. It's not the enemy, we just have to change our habits of what we do about it. Use a scale of 1-10, if you get to a 7 between meals it is okay to grab a healthy snack(apple, banana, nuts, grapes). These only nurish your body and help your body perform better. I would do this first and see if a fill is what you need. Good Luck, I hope this helps. -
Congratulations to everyone! Double to the ones who made goal! It's just wonderful to see the scale went in the right direction for all of us! Can't wait for the next challenge. It really keeps me going. Thanks to all of you for your support and inspiration!

What is your caloric intake? Do you exercise? If so, how much and what do you do? I was a very slow loser also. It has taken me over 2 yrs to finally get to a bmi of 24.9(just under the 25 mark for being overweight), so I do know the struggle. Maybe if you give me more info we can see if there is something that is hampering your weight loss. I know that sometimes medications can affect weight loss. I think we can figure this out! LET'S GET YOU LOSING AGAIN!
-
Don't get discouraged. I think that Jack had a great point about keeping a journal on your food and exercise. Remember, no matter who you are 3,500 calories equal 1lb. You have to burn more calories than you take in. Exercise is very important. Also, change the exercise up every once in a while. If you walk on the treadmill at a certain speed, increase it, or walk at an incline. Don't let your body get use to the same thing every day. Thank includes with food also. So if you just stick with it, it will pay off. I was a very slow loser but after 2 years I am under a 25 bmi. One good thing is that like alot of the others my skin had time to go back slowly and I need no plastic surgery to correct any hanging skin. So maybe that can be your incentive. Keep chugging along, I know you can do it. It is hard but well worht it.

Why are so many not telling friends and family about being banded
laurigee replied to jackiemhornig's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought telling everyone was okay. But I am kind of sick of hearing people say that "If they had the money, they could be thin to". Or "it's the easy way out". No one is there watching me exercise for over an hour every day. Call me petty but I would like some of the credit. Very few people have said anything about the way I have transformed my body because to alot of people I'm considered a "Cheater". My immediate family is very supportive and I would definately tell them, but I would probably not tell anyone else. Again, it's a very personal choice. -
My insurance didn't cover my surgery either. Luckily we had the cash to pay for the surgery which was 17,500. I can honestly say that I would do it again. One thing that is important is to read, read, read, everything you can about the band before hand. Alot of people seem kind of ignorant (not to be rude) about the of the band. The more you know, the better you will do, and not be disappointed. Good Luck and I hope everything goes well for you.
