  1. My doctor recomends at least 4 days of exercise per week. Maybe if you add just 2 more days of exercise that would help. You have lost alot of weight so far without alot of exercise(I'm only going by your post). Maybe its time to kick your matabolism up. If you notice yourself eating alot more to stay satisfied, I would definately call your doctor to see about a fill. Good Luck.
  2. My family and I are big golfers. I play 3+ days a week from the beginning of the season to the end. I had no problem at all. The one thing that did change was my swing. It took half of the season to revise, but I'm back. Another was the cute outfits I can now wear. If I have a bad day on the course I still look fabulous! lol.
  3. Not to ask an odd question or anything, but are you sure she has the band? It's odd that anyone would go through a surgery to better their health and just decide to forget about it, and not use the tool. She doesn't have to go get a fill from her surgeon, she can go anywhere they do fills. Another thing, if she is going to the bathroom regularly to pb, she definately doesn't need a fill. Is she exercising regularly? The band alone doesn't do the job, anyone who has been succesful can tell you that. It's alot of hard work! Maybe show her some of the threads where people talk about what it takes to be succesful and she will be encouraged. If not accept her the way she is or not. Good Luck to you both.
  4. I like nessa, have a scale in the kitchen. I weigh myself just once a day. I think that has kept me on track. If I am up a couple of pounds I can get rid of it right away. I like to nip it in the bud, quick. I also can tell what foods agree with my weight loss and which ones hinder it. I have noticed for me too many veggies cause weight gain.(probably gas), without my scale, and daily checks, I wouldn't notice that. I love my scale.

    Help??

Jeremy: I too question where in the world you would get adderal from without having a disorder that it is prescribed for? If your getting it illegally, wow! I am on adderal and it has no effect on the band. I don't want to judge you, but I am curious, did you get the lap band for your health or for just a piece of a**? I don't mean to be rude but is it better to die of AIDS, Liver Failure, Psorosis of the Liver, Alchohol poisoning, perscription drug addiction, or combining alchohol and drugs together(if you stop taking these med's when you drink, this is dangerous, these med's are not designed to stop and restart as you feel, they are meant to be taken daily). I truly think that the majority of us are in it for health. And you are not healthy! Unfortunately you have convinced yourself otherwise. Remember the number 23 doesn't make you invinsible. Later in life the word "Healthy" is going to mean something totally different than is does now, and hopefully for you it won't be to late. Most people do not need drugs to function and get through their day or weekend. Just something to think about. I wish you the best, life is to precious to live so recklessly. But it is your life to have or not.
  6. Wow, that seems like a lot for such a short period of time. I would think that your doctor knows what he is doing. I personally have a 4cc band and I just got a fill today and now have 4.6cc in my band. They said that the band can hold a little more than recommended. I hope my doctor is right. I am at 2 1/2yrs. and I guess I have hit the limit. I am almost at goal so hopefully I will be able to maintain once I get there. I guess we will both have to wait and see. Good Luck
  7. Everyone wants alot of restriction, but we have to be careful because too much can be distructive to us and the band. When you are too tight you tend to eat foods your able to get down, which is usually bad food, or liquids that go through the band quickly and do not keep us full for long. During the first few months you should be very careful with PBing, your band is new and you could cause slippage. There is nothing good that will come out of being over restricted, so please call your doctor immediately and get some removed. By the way, alot of people do have problems eating in the morning, some think warm tea helps to open their band. Good Luck and please keep us informed at how your doing.
  8. To bad that people like that exsist! I would think if you can't say what you really mean in front of the camera, you must know that your an idiot. I guess that is one good thing that happened out of it. One more idiot in the world IDENTIFIED!
  9. I have been banded for 2 1/2 years. I have yet to hit my goal. Throughout the whole process I was a slow loser. I stopped coming to this site because I was so sick of seeing everyone lose like crazy while I just stayed the same or lost a few pounds. That was my first mistake! I should have looked for support from people who were like me to keep me on track. I applaud you all for looking for someone's help before giving up. It shows your commitment to yourselves. My story is I didn't use all the lap band rules I should have. When you feel no restriction you tend to forget and start to eat around the band. Do you stop drinking 1hr before a meal, no liquid during a meal, or no liquid 1hr after a meal? Do you eat slow? I mean real slow. Do you chose foods that will stay in your band the longest? Soups are great but they do not stay in your band, they are extra calories that go straight threw the band. No substance. Protiens are suggested. I call them the heavy foods. Protien shakes will not keep you full for long. Again, straight threw! Exercise is so, so, so, important for sucess! Just 4 times a week with make a major difference. If you work out by yourself make sure you challenge yourself. Sometimes I can get pretty soft on myself. All you need is a treadmill and a set of 5-10 lb free weights and you can work every muscle in your body. If anyone has any questions about that, I would be glad to offer you suggestions. Be 110% honest with your doctor(share everything, even things we would rather not admit to ourselves). This is the only way he can adjust you and help you reach your goals. I am only 10lbs from goal right now, so remember, it doesn't matter how fast you get there it's that you finally reach your destination. Well, that's what I have learned on my journey and I hope it helps all of you realize that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I will leave you with a quote I have refeard to many times in the last 2 1/2yrs. "Remember a single defeat is not a final defeat". Good Luck to all of you. God Bless
  10. I guess that everyone's doctor is different in their recommendations for their patients after a fill. My doctor told me to just do liquids right after the fill. Mushies the 2nd day and by the evening try giving solids a try if everything is going down alright. If not go back to mushies. Actually I have never experienced not being able to eat solids by that time. Whatever way, it's well worth the sacrifices. Even though it can get rough sometimes. Are you sure your doctor wanted you to start from the beginning again? Maybe it was a misunderstanding.
  11. Be assured you did not make a mistake. It's only been 5 weeks. Once you receive your first fill things will start to go more of the way you expect it to go. Always be aware of your lap band rules. No drinking 1hr before, during, or 1hr after meal. Eat SLOWLY, Chew, Chew, Chew. Eat things that will stay in your band the longest! Soup or liquids are bad choices because you get the calories but they don't stay in your band long. Proteins are important. Work close with your doctor and let him know everything(even the things we are not so proud of) be honest with him and yourself so he is best able to adjust and inform you of the things needed to be done to be sucessful. Please like I said to the others, please keep us informed on your progress. Good Luck!
  12. The shoulder pain is the worst of the worst! I feel horrible for you. I went through it for along time. It got alot worse after I would eat. Finally, even though I felt hungry, they took out some of the fluid instead of putting more in. I was like a miracle! No Pain. After leaving some out for a month I went back and when they put it back to the same initial amount miraculously there was no pain. I know we all get afraid of removing fluid, exspecially when we are hungry but I just couldn't function with all that pain. And that pain has never returned and I have had several fills since then. Good Luck to you!
  13. I think unfortunately there is no real recipe for sucess with the band. The only key that I repeatedly see is exercise. It has taken me over 2 years to figure out what works and what doensn't for me. I do eat sugar(not as much) and have a diet soda a day. These are things that I feel if I give up it is just another diet like all the others that I can't stick with. The thing I did change was regular exercise. I have to move, move, move. When I didn't I didn't lose. My band tends to feel tighter(no clue why) when I exercise. So I guess I kill 2 birds with one stone. Track your exercise and food like the others have suggested and you should see where things could be improved upon. Trust me when you write it down it takes on a new dimension. YOU CAN DO IT! DON'T GIVE UP, JUST TAKE A DIFFERENT ROUTE! My favorite quote is "Don't confuse a single defeat with a final defeat". Good Luck and please let us know how things go for you ladies. Don't disappear on us!

Leslie: Congratulations on your run. Just think how easy the next 5K will seem when you only run 5K. It's going to seem like a breeze! CONGRATS!
  15. BJean: Do you think that the black flag has something to do with the football player that was going to show a black clothe I think(don't quote me) during a football game after getting a touchdown(honoring our black president) I guess with both of them why the black clothe or flag to represent someone or something? I hope I will see a world that doesn't notice the color only notices the man! I did not vote for president elect Obama, but I am a person that promotes country. So the majority has spoken and I will not negatively demean, degrade, or disrespect the decisions or man while he is in office. This will only cause a division in country. So GO PRESIDENT OBAMA, HELP FIX OUR COUNTRY! I'M 110% BEHIND HIM!

    Advice

I have not had to give up any of the foods that I ate before. I do eat less of them. Wise food choices are important when you don't eat as much. Exercise is a key. If it is something people avoid and are hoping that just eating less is going to get them to goal it will be a long journey. If you follow a few simple rules you will have success. Exercise, no drinking before, during, or 1 hr after a meal, eating slowly, and chewing well you will do fine! Good Luck!

    Emotional eating..

I hate to be a downer but for me I am still an emotional eater. Alot of the time I can eat as much as I use to. I don't do it as often as before though. I plan on going to my doctor and getting his recommendation on who I should go see. For me the band was a great help in weight loss. I just want to figure out the food demons before they sabotage me again. Good Luck to you
  18. I think alot of people have a misconception that you can no longer eat certain foods. Alot of us have no trouble eating everything we could before the band. With the band you are going to still be able to "eat around the band" if you want to. You really need to work now on your emotional eating, that did not go away for me with the band. The band is only a tool, and only works if you let it. You can still make bad food choices. And the band definately doesn't do anything to help you get your exercise that it takes to keep the weight off. Yes if used properly it definately works, but it doesn't kill the food demons, at least not for me. Concentrate the last 2 months on your relationship with food and exercise and don't worry about the pounds on the scale right now.
  19. I'm from WI and paid $17,500. This is with 1 year of fills and follow-ups. We also have a support group that meets once a month.
  20. I was very active prior to surgery, I just ate too much. I had my surgery on Friday at 5:00p.m. and Sunday afternoon I went outside a push mowed my lawn. I was so pumped up about my new life I just wanted to keep moving. I don't like to take pain medication so I used advil instead. Which for me worked. I think pain meds can make you tired and nauseous, so I stay away from them. Everyone heals differently and your going to have to listen to your body, it will let you know. Good Luck
  21. The magic question, could I have done it without the band? I can honestly say that my answer is no. I had tried for 12 years and always regained every pound I lost and then some. It controled my eating and with exercise the weight has continued to come off. Was it fast? No, not for me. Have I had times that I have regained a few pounds? sure. But never to the extent I had in the past. Right now I am 10lbs from goal and I attribute it to my band, exercise, and my willingness to follow the band rules. Good Luck in your weight loss. Being ready for the band is going to determine your success, so if you are not 100% maybe it's just not quite your time.

I have hit a platue!! HELP!

When I hit plateaus I would change up my exercise routine. When I would walk on the treadmill I would increase the incline. I would walk 2 min normal than increase the incline and walk 2 min and continue doing that for my 45min walk. If you walk outside maybe walk in an area with hills. Also, never get yourself in a rut with food. Always mix it up. Don't eat the same kind of food every day. Your body gets use to that. Well good luck and let me know if any of this works for you.

For those of you with a 4cc band only!

JKpenny, Congratulations on your weight loss! The band thing is great isn't it. There is life beyond food. When your mind isn't thinking about your next meal all the time it is amazing what great things your mind can do and create. Again, Congratulations

  25. Melolo: Actually as I was writting that post I was trying to edit it and erased most of what I had written. Unfortunately I hit the wrong button and none of the edited info came up. So I will repeat some of what I wrote: I apologize to The Watcher that I made assumptions to his character or age. Wisdom comes from all. I am not against Barack at all. I would love the U.S to get back on track and really don't care who does it. I am only pointing out 1 concern I have that hits me personally. My husband and I own 2 car dealerships, Wholesale Co., land and investments(with employees), etc. We employ alot of people in small communities. We treat everyone with respect and in return get respect. Our motto is "YOU DON'T WORK FOR US, YOU WORK WITH US". My husband works side-by-side with everyone. At our car dealerships we give everyone that works their a car to drive, pay their car insurance, pay half of their health insurance, and match their 401K, we also offer the top salesman at the end of the year a 1st class family vacation, almost anywhere. We have people that can't make it on their social security, young families just starting out, single parents, a little of everything. These people are our family. We have just recently had GM, and a large canning co. pull out of our area. 1,000's of people are looking for jobs. If we are taxed any more we will not be able to keep the doors open. What will happen to our family? To save money we could take their benifits away but it would only cause hardship to the families. Where will they go to get treated they way they deserve to be treated? My husband & I will be able to get by, we made wise investments and new when to get out, Walgreens wants to buy the 1 property our dealership sits on, and my husband is a prof. poker player(yeh it exsists), but what about the rest of the family? Remember, every senator is in the top 10%, they will be taken care of for the rest of their lives. They will never have to worry about their families, if they have a home, healthcare. Obama raised over 450 million in contributions for his campaign, which is impressive. He definately knows the right people. But I just don't think we should be fooled to think they know what business owners or the average person feels. To me the difference of 250,000 and millions are a big difference. To tax those over 500,000 or million to me is more suitable. Cuz eventually 250,000 has already came down to 100,000 according to Biden. Scarey. I would do anything for my family and It kills me to think we may have to look them in the eyes and tell them we can't make it. We already live in a state that business and property taxes are some of the highest in the nation. So that's my story, I hope that puts an understanding to my concerns. I am just trying to protect my family!
