  1. Don't worry Laurie, you are not the only one who hasn't shopped. I figure I will need something to do these next couple of weeks while I'm not eating or thinking about eating...
  2. Thanks for all the supplement information, I'm sure I will reference it again once I figure out what my needs are going to be post surgery.

So, speaking of Post Surgery, what does your Doc reccomend for diet...

I will be on clear liquids the rest of surgery day, full liquids for 4 additional days and mushies until the day of my post op visit which will be day 10, at which time they will assess my ability to move on from there.

  3. At this point I have mostly stayed away from the various supplements only because I have no idea what I might ever need post surgery. I did get a chewable multi vitamin off the unJury website, haven't tried it yet because I am trying to take all my big horsepill vitamins that I currently have. And then of course, there is the protein powder, currently I have been using the Whole Foods Whey Protein...not as high in protein as some out there but it is pretty reasonable in price so using two scoops still doesn't seem too expensive.

The other thing that I worry about is what I will drink post surgery...I am a big Diet Coke addict (which started back in the day when I worked for them.) This will be my last day drinking Diet Coke...cold turkey from here on out. I'm not a coffee drinker and not a fan of Crystal Light or other 'Kool Aid' type drinks. What to do oh, what to do...

  4. tripletmomma2000, just saw your post the August Bandiversary thread and I just wanted to say congrats on your journey, your recorded weightloss on your ticker is AWESOME!!! Any tips for a newbie who hopes to be in your position this time next year would be soooo appreciated.

  5. Hey All!! My magic date is the 17th....it was supposed to be the 5th, but the Doc decided to take some last minute vacation (should that even be allowed?) This is my last weekend before the pre-op and so far it has been happening just like I would have expected, food is meeting mouth on a regular basis. I will be taking off 6 days post-op, not sure if I will need that much time but since things are pretty stressfull at work right now, it sure won't hurt anything. Everybody stay strong.
  6. dm5201 who is your doctor? I will be banded just the week before you and I am also in KC. My doctor is Malley.

Best of luck to you on your journey.

  7. I just wish we had a good way of knowing in advance how this whole thing was going to work for us...there are several people that everything seems to go sooo smoothly for and then others who just have the worst of times making it through the process and working the band. One thing I am struggling with is that in the past I have always lost 40 pounds and then just stalled out...i would stay at that weight for over a year and then once I totally threw in the towel, it would be all back on in the matter of 4 months...so completely frustrating. With the band as my new best friend I am hoping it will be easier to break through that 40 pound mark.

Have a bit of trouble with the head this weekend since it is the last weekend before the pre-op diet...before I was even overly conscience of it last night, I had baked and frosted a cake...WTF was I thinking!! Hope you are doing better with the pre pre-op diet than I am.

  8. The CPAP machines are able to know when you do or do not utilize them. One month after having my CPAP machine I was required to send in the memory chip from the machine which was storing my usage on the machine and monitoring if the air pressure that was being used was enough to keep me breathing during the night...so please just know that there is not a way to fake out the machine. Having said all of that, I did find it much easier to use the mask when I am at home as opposed to using it at the sleep center...without all that other junk hooked up to me. I also find that when I use it: I feel less tired during the day, I feel more mentally sharp than I was before and I am never as stuffy headed during the day than I am when I don't use it. Does that mean that I hope I never have to give it up...heck no, but I do know that for now it makes me feel better.
  9. Wow, no I can't imagine that. I would love to be over 100 pounds down in a year...I really hope that is possible. How much down is your goal weight? Do you have an ideal time in which you would like to lose that much weight?

Also curious what you thought of the supplements that they brought in and which you might have liked?

  10. That sounds like a pretty doable meal plan. I think two shakes might leave me feeling a little hungry if that is what I strictly following. I was thinking about moving my one meal to lunch, since that is when I will probably most miss eating a meal.

As for exercise, I have a fitness room in the community I live in so that will be a large part of getting back on track with exercise. For two years until Nov 2009, I had worked out with a personal trainer 3 times a week, so I am hoping that it will be easy to get back on track with cardio and weight training. I ended up stopping at that time due to complete exhaustion, which turned out to be the effects of sleep apnea...if I had only known then what I know now, I may not have ever stopped.

  11. It is something they will check for when you have your surgery. If there is one there, they should/will repair it at the same time as placing your band. From my understanding this became the norm a couple of years ago.

    August 2010 anyone?

I have found a ton of blogs on blogspace.com. Many people on this site have their blog listed in their signature line. One you find one, there is a whole lap band network that they seem to be connected to.
  13. Lena,

Yes, I would very much like to have a buddy who is going through the same transformation as I am.

I have to say that I am really not that nervous, but then again there is still just over 3 weeks to go until the magic date.

What does your pre-op diet look like? I just found out on Friday that my Doc has three different diets depending on your body shape and how much you have to lose. Since I am an evenly distributed person, I will 'only' have to do a two week diet with 2 shakes and a small meal. I guess some 'apple' shapes have to do 4 weeks of liquid only....YIKES.

    Thanks for the message,

    Kelly

    August 2010 anyone?

Lena, welcome to the August Bandsters. Our stats could not be much closer....age, weight, height and I will be banded on the 17th. I looks forward to sharing our experiences.
  15. Did you see a Dr at all during that three years where they would have documented your weight?
  16. kelking

    I got Approved!

Congratulations on your speedy approval. We have the same date, and I also feel that it cannot get here soon enough....

    August 2010 anyone?

I am sooooo irratated!!! I had a date of August 5th, had everything all lined up so that I had someone who could be with me on the day of surgery (they changed some of their plans, by the way) and then the surgeons office calls today and say that the Dr. just decided that he is going to be on vacation that week. WTF!!!! So now I have to push surgery out two weeks to accomodate his schedule and go through the process of making other arrangements for sugery day. How freakin' inconsiderate can a person be, should they get their vacation scheduled before they start booking surgery.:mad::mad::mad:
  18. You will probably have to pay on the date of your surgery or at your last pre-op appointment, since this is an elective surgery and they know where you are at in your deductible.

    A heartfelt revelation

Thanks for sharing Marissa. Pretty cool perspective!!
  20. kelking

    Woo Hoo!!!!!

That is AWESOME...maybe you will be a August bandster with a bunch of us.

    92 pounds gone

Congratulations Claudean!!! As a soon to be bandster, that makes me even more excited about this journey. Keep up the GREAT work!!
  22. I was approved on the first try. I have BCBS of TN as my insurer. Since I participate in a High Deductible Health plan my out of pocket expenses will be $4500...most of which I paid with the things I needed to do pre-surgery.

    Max Out of Pocket Question

As emjay said you will want to either look at your SPD or talk with someone at the insurance company. I have been assigned a Case Worker within my insurance plan and she has been most helpful is managing the obstacle course that is insurance. In my particular case, my deductible is $1500 and my max out of pocket is $4500. So I paid everything to my deductible 100% and then I paid 20% of all additional claims until I paid the additional $3000. From that point on, I will not pay another cent. One other thing you might want to understand is what effect out of network expenses have on all this. I know that I have an in network and out of network deductible. My sleep study ended up being out of network (I could kick myself for that one) so they applied 20% of the allowable amount towards my max out of pocket....even though my expense was much more than that. I can all be so confusing, good luck in figuring it all out. If you have HR person or department you can go to, they might be of some help. You wouldn't even have to tell them what you were having done, just speak in general terms.
