Pain Level From Surgery
angyl2314 replied to 1bunni4me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Those people who suffered a lot of pain after their lap band surgery obviously had bad surgeons. I had asolutely no pain and the most minimal amount of gas, and that was actually like a week later. I had no pain meds, aside from the morphiene in the hospital, which I was just using to use, I think lol. It was not bad at all. -
Did your program give you a meal plan? Mine did. Right now, in the pureed stage, my meals are as follows: Breakfast: 1 tbsp protein, 1 tbsp starch, Lunch: 1.5 tbsp protein, 2 tbsp fruit, 2 tbsp vegetables, Dinner: 1.5 tbsp protein, 2 tbsp fruit, 2 tbsp vegetables. In between meals I am supposed to have 6 oz milk (carnation) and 4 oz fruit juice mixed with 4 oz water.

Sunshine: whenever u make the master list this week, I wilk repost it at the beginning of the thread.

Going into this I had a plan to lose the weight, maintain it for about a year while undergoing some behavior modfication (weight watchers, nutritionist, etc), and then having the band removed. My biggest concern is the limited amount of long term data avail on the effects of silicone/titanium on the body, and the idea of eventual erosion. It is pretty premature to have these thoughts, but am I the only person who has thought about this?

I haven't been journaling yet, but plan to when I return to NY tomorrow night. I tried beef baby food today. BLAND. I decided to strain a can of vegetable soup and puree the veggies. That was pretty good and conventional. I also pureed a piece of grilled chicken with homemade carrot soup. Very tasty. I bought tofu grillers (bbq flavor), which I am going to try later. I like tofu so it should be okay. I spoke to my nutritionist who does not want me to take any protein supplements. She wants me to get all my protein through food because supplements have the tendency to add bulk. I am stuck on the carnation drink, special k water, crystal light and plain water. I am taking the centrum chewables. Tasty!!! lol And exercise has just been walking so far. I haven't weighed myself in a few days. I don't trust the scale here and would rather rely on mine at home. So Monday, I guess. Last I had checked, though, it was 10 lbs. I would love to be 15 down by the time I get back to work on Tuesday. I put my jeans on, and man, what a difference 10 lbs makes. Feels great!

My mom has all my before pics, I have to get them from her. I haven't taken any scar pics yet bc I still have steri strips on. Yawn.
-
My dietician said that soy milk is fine but the flavored has sugar. I guess I'll try the beano. I am glad you liked the frozen drink. yum...I am drinking some right now!!!
-
lol omg you're so smart for not having weighed in. As opposed to me and my obssessive self weighing in all the time. Now that the scale has stopped moving, I just attribute it to the fact that it's broken lol. Did you try the frozen carnation thing? I love it, but it gives me horrible gas every day. Gotta figure out how to prevent that from happening. Maybe Beano? Gas-x is for after the fact, I need something preemptive. Suggestions?

I was banded on Jan 3rd and no fills yet. I feel pretty good. Waiting for all these dumb steri strips to come off. (I had staples at first, which I asked to be removed 5 days later and replaced with the strips). Lost 10 lbs quickly, and am at a plateau now. They told me this would happen when my body realized it was "starving". Still makes me sad when I get on the scale. Uh, maybe I should hide the scale for a week, huh?

Just wanted to see how everyone was doing? I was banded on the 3rd. I have had no problems at all. I moved onto pureed foods today. That liquid diet was slowly killing me I think. I hope everyone is doing well... Good luck

I haven't even really had any protein drinks. I get my protein through my regular diet. I have Spiru-tein, by Nature's Plus, at home. I have tried the chocolate peanut butter and love it.

Hey Sunshine. I joined that group. The actual address is: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/BandsterRecipes/ The carnation drink is just made with the no sugar added powder....in the BLUE box, not the yellow.

Hi all. We have a thread for all people being banded in January if you want to check it out. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/january-bandsters-t25717.html -Jen -
I'm actually pretty restricted tonight. This is the first time I have felt it. Feels weird. Usually I am just full, but I guess I overdid it. Oh well, each day we learn more. So, as I was going threw other threads I came across some recipes I am going to steal and use. I figure I will post them here. Anyone else have any good puree recipes or ideas to get us through the next few weeks?
-
I just stick in the freezer for a while. It does totally freeze but eventually thaws but has pieces of ice in it.
-
I make it in a water bottle, milk and powder, and then freeze it. It tastes like it was made in the blender with ice. Try it. You'll love it. And no, I drink it like a milkshake.
-
The few days before my surgery I felt like I was wired. I could not sit still. Everytime I sat, I got up immediately to do something. It's natural. You'll be fine.
-
I have fallen in love with frozen carnation instant breakfast. I make 3 bottles at night and stick them in the freezer to have for the following day. They are so good and creamy. Better than making it in the blender with ice bc nothing is being added. Yum....
-
Starting the beginning of next week we should have a weekly weigh in date and update our list...like maybe on Fridays.
-
I added it to the first post.
-
Hey Sunshine, you're doing a great job. Thanks. While peeking in on one of the other threads, I saw that they are also tracking each other's weight loss with the surgery dates. If you like, when I return to work next week, I can help you make a list like this and update it.

I finally got the gas I have heard so much about. It was awful for about 3 hours or so. I now have this uncomfortable pain on the lower right side of my belly, kind of above my pelvic bone, I guess. I originally thought it was gas, too, but it hasn't passed. I'm praying something happens with it tonight while I'm sleeping. Being away from home and feeling weird pain makes me nervous. Otherwise, I am doing great. Drank all my fluids today like a good girl. Ordered a small cup of TCBY and threw away 4/5ths of it before eating it. Not bad. Good luck to all those going for surgery today. We'll see you tomorrow!
-
I don't smoke any longer, I quit nearly 5 years ago this upcoming March. You'll be thankful you quit before the surgery though. Coughing afterwards is tough for a few reasons. I had been coughing shallowly up until about yesterday. Wait til you have to sneeze lol. I was one of the lucky ones who did not have a pre op diet. I spoke to my nutritionist beforehand who told me that reasons for the diet vary from shriking liver size, additional weight loss and getting people used to eating smaller portions of food or the liquid diet. You should speak to your doctor if you choose to deviate from his diet plan, he may have reasoning behind it...or just stock in Optifast lol

Welcome! We appreciate new comers. I still go onto the December thread to follow up and get some information to see how they are all doing but there were some nasty posts back and forth about keeping certain people out of the thread. That was weird to me.
