January 2011 Bandsters - Where are you?
Carolyn1 replied to Vicki M's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So, how is it going? I seem to have hit a plateau for quite a while... Carolyn Hello, My name is Vicki. I just got the band 2 days ago. I checked this board right before my surgery but didn't see anyone sign up for January 2011. I'm guessing there are more out there than just me or perhaps you can guide me to the right place to get in touch with other "newbies". There are no support groups anywhere near where I live so am pretty dependant on the online stuff. Looking forward to hearing from others. Thanks, Vicki -
JANUARY BANDSTERS ~~ how is everyone?
Carolyn1 replied to Renee1003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what was going on with me- put on weight and hungry! This last fill helped a lot, so I'm hoping to lose this week (or at least lose what I had gained.) Carolyn -
JANUARY BANDSTERS ~~ how is everyone?
Carolyn1 replied to Renee1003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Renee, How are you doing? I gained almost 3 lbs before my fill last Monday! (Now up to 5 cc.) I KNOW how important it is to write down everything in my food journal, but I find myself running around without it. Ugh! -

I'm feeling good. I had my first fill 2/7/11 - 1 cc added (3 cc were already in it) for a total of 4 cc. Since I've added solid food my weight loss has really slowed down. My little girl said "Wow, you are getting curvy!" LOL. -
I'm in a suburb of Philadelphia and we got 12 inches of snow! It was very heavy to shovel.
In the 90's, my parents lived just a little over 2 years in Bethel Park.
Did you get much snow?

BAD NEWS: I'm Stinky!!! I'm 9 days post op and I have the stinkiest ketosis breath known to mankind. My urine stinks and I pass gas, which makes me stink. I'm grossing myself out. GOOD NEWS: I put on my favorite jeans and they are loose!!! I guess that I will have to put up with the BAD in order to enjoy the GOOD. -
First fill on Thursday!
Carolyn1 replied to amber2604's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Amber, good luck with the fill. How many cc's of fluid? -
"Hydration is hydration is hydration." I enjoy Crystal Light, it's on the list of acceptable drinks, so I get hydrated with Crystal Light. BTW, my nutritionist shared a yummy concoction (for my next phase-pureed.) Mix orange Crystal Light, vanilla Protein Powder and yogurt to make an old fashioned Orange Push Pop. I haven't had one in years! 4 days post!!

Best of luck to you! I was banded three days ago- January 18th. I have 3 children, married for 20 years and I think that I was 120 or 130 when I got married. I felt compelled to share the similarities. It's been an uneventful three days- I focus on my protein shakes and water. I have a little bit of pain at incision sites and a pain in my shoulder from possibly a gas bubble that hasn't been totally absorbed. After taking a Percocet, wait a few minutes, then BINGO! The pain is gone. (I then will do my deep breathing exercises with the little plastic machine from the hospital.) Keep us posted,

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
Carolyn1 replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded two days ago 1/18/11. While I was in the hospital I experienced some discomfort from the gas bubbles trapped in my shoulder. The nurse gave me a heating pad and a couple of blankets which helped. I started walking the halls and eating ice chips after surgery. Today I was driven to the mall, walked around for a bit, folded laundry, made some sewing repairs. I tracked all of my Muscle Milk, Instant Carnation and water intakes. I've been using the breathing tool to do my breathing exercises. All is good so far. I'm taking Percocet, stool softener, & Nexium. -

How's it staying hydrated? -
Best of luck to you! Keep us posted when you get home.

I started using Nioxin a couple of weeks ago to keep the scalp in prime real estate condition. I didn't want to worry about hair loss after surgery. It's been drying out my hair, so I've been applying a wee bit of Moroccan oil on the ends. I'm T-minus 10 days, BTW.

T-minus 10 days and counting!! I have the following: Breakfast is Fage 0% yogurt with Carnation Instant Breakfast Essentials No Sugar Added mixed in; and coffee with fat free 1/2 n 1/2 and 2 truvia packets. I have my 600 mg of Calcium with Vit D I drink Water with Sunrise Classic Orange Crystal Light all day long. lunch is a lean Cuisine- I especially like the chicken in Peanut Sauce...and the Salmon in Basil Sauce. I have my Multivitamins now. Depending on the time of lunch, I will have a Muscle Milk Light (either chocolate or Vanilla) in am or pm. After the second time of having this I started to enjoy them. I like to pour it over crushed ice since I'm too lazy to pull out the blender. dinner is another Lean Cuisine. I have my second 600 mg of Calcium with Vit D. Some days I eat a sugar free Popsicle. Now, with all of that said, on the first day of this diet, I had a HUGE headache in the afternoon and I thought that I would DIE after dinner. The second day, I had high energy in the morning, then I felt like DEATH was quickly approaching after dinner. This was such a shock to my body that I ended up going to bed early. Now, I have highs and lows throughout the day, have headaches on and off, but remain steadfast committed to this. I have not cheated nor been tempted. I'm focusing on this, my family and work. (In that order!!) Also, I've lost 6lbs since starting this. -

I'm scheduled for January 18th and am starting the 2 week Low Cal Diet. My surgeon has set daily goals of 1,000 cal, 60-80 gram protein, 64 oz fluid. I can use two prepackaged low cal meals and liquid protein supplements. I got some Muscle Milk Light in both chocolate and vanilla to help out. -
January 2011 Bandsters....??
Carolyn1 replied to blondeej's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sooo excited! I'm scheduled for January 18th!!! I've been thinking about it several times during the day. Oddly enough, I feel like I need to get my projects done. Do you know that feeling? For once in my life, the Christmas cards were out early, all of the gifts are purchased and those that have arrived are wrapped?!? Last night as I was lying in bed, I sucked in my belly and smiled at the thought of it being gone by next year!!! Can I share a secret? I bought a really cute size 8 SLEEVELESS shirt! It's the first 'small' thing that I've bought. I may not be able to wear it summer of 2011, maybe summer 2012. Off to do laundry... -

Congrats! I'm still waiting on clearance reports to sent to the surgeon. Hasn't been submitted to the insurance company yet. -
I had my initial meeting with the doctor and dietitian in June and went to my my first LapBand support group. Last month I read Weight Loss Surgery for dummies. I'm excited and think that there is light at the end of the tunne.
