Any April surgeries.
jkppt replied to Tiffaneyhoover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kim- My surgeon does not require a prep diet but I am copying what some are doing. Two Protein shakes and dinner of a protein and veggies. It makes sense to me to start prior to the surgery so the transition after surgery is not so abrupt. How is is going for you? My surgery is on Thursday and I am very anxious because it will not know until after I wake from it if they were able to do the bypass. I will have the band out for sure but if the tissue does not look good the bypass will not be done. My insurance has very limited life time coverage for bariatric surgery so if the bypass is not able to be done, I will not have it done for a very long time as I will have to self pay. This is adding another layer of anxiety for me. Jennie -
I received an email regarding a recall on the fitbit force. This e-mail is being sent to you because you are a registered user of the Fitbit Force Activity-Tracking Wristband, which is being voluntarily recalled by Fitbit, Inc. in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Users can develop allergic reactions to the stainless steel casing, materials used in the strap, or adhesives used to assemble the product, resulting in redness, rashes or blistering. Consumers should stop using the Fitbit Force Activity-Tracking Wristband and return the product to Fitbit for a full refund. Please open the attached document for the official press release. For additional information regarding this product recall..... So very bummed as I love this product!!

April 2014 pre-op group
jkppt replied to KristinaRnY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No pre-op diet for me. I am having a conversion from band to bypass. I really think the pre-op diet is dependent on your surgeon. I did not have to do it for the band either. -
Thanks so much for the pictures of your desk. That is very clever. Will see if my husband could put something like together for me. He is fairly handy.

These are all great suggestions. Keep them coming. Water bottle for sure, scale and the timer is a great suggestion. What is a treadmill desk? I like the idea of being entertained while you are active but I am having trouble visualizing this.

Amy, I live in Mars which is near Cranberry township. I am having my surgery at Magee in Pittsburgh. I used to live in Beaver. That is where I was married My name is Jennie. I am 48 yo and am married and have to sons. 19 yo who is in college and a 17 yo who is a senior. I can relate to the son moving away. My son is 6'5" and 230 and just abouts eats me out of house and home when he visits. They will be told today about the surgery. I wanted to wait until closer to the date before letting them know.

I think this is a great idea. I am going to be a conversion if all goes well. I have been warned that the band will be removed but if the situation is not ideal she will not due the conversion until a later date. This is getting me very nervous. Two surgeries means twice the chance of complications. I am really hoping the MD will be able to do both.

I will try to keep in touch thru the process. I am scheduled for April 3rd. I am anxious but also excited! -
Hi Lucy, I am scheduled for April 3rd myself. Getting nervous and excited. I had the band done 3.5 years ago and have had issues with since. They are to remove and do the revision at the same time. I am very excite to have someone scheduled the same day. Jennie

I am from Pittsburgh and having my surgery at Magee on April 3. No pre op diet required. Getting nervous at the date nears. -
I am scheduled for a revision on April 3rd. Removal of band and revision to bypass. I am not required to do any special pre op diet. I am not complaining, but is this common? I see a lot of comments about the pre op liquid diet and I was curious if not having one is odd. I have the same surgeon doing the revision as did the original banding. I cannot recall of I had to do it for the original banding as it has been several years.

Dr. Anita Courcoulas - Praise for Dr Courcoulas,Staff and Magee Hosp

I was banded 9/28/10 by Dr. C and had a very good experience. Met with her prior to surgery and she spent a lot of time explaining the procedure and answering questions. Met with her and the PA day of surgery. Stay at Magee was good but ended up being in 3 days instead of overnight. My bladder does not do well with anesthesia apparently. Followed up with Bill, PA for postop check and her was also very thorough and took the time to answer all my questions. Overall a great experience. I am due to go back on Nov 12 and perhaps get my first fill. -

The pain I was having was more de to the bladder issue I had after the anesthesia. I could not urinate and when they tried taking the catheter out, I had pain from the bladder spasming and stretching. The incisions are quite small and they give you liquid pain meds so the effect is very quick when you do take them. If you are self pay they will get you scheduled right away I'll bet. -

Depends on your insurrance and if you had to go through the 6 months waiting period. I met with her in the beginning of August and I had my surgery Sept 28th . Once you get going it really goes fairly quickly. They have an effecient system at her office and things seem to run very smoothly. I live about 50 min from Magee and they were able to schedule all the appointments with the dietician and psych so I did not have to keep making trips. I had my bloodwork and xray taken where I live and they had me get a stress test which may not happen for you. The stress test took the longest to schedule as I saw my husband's doc. I hope this was helpful. Jen -
Debbie, I think you will like Dr C. She spent enough time with me to answer all my questions and really helped me make the choice between the bypass or the band. I also liked the follow up appointments I had with Bill who is a nurse practicianer (sp?)The people at Magee were very helpful and not at all judgemental which I very much appreciated. The first appointment is just getting all the info

Yes - I am down to 188. It has been very slow but I am not complaining. When you have your followup ask for Bill when you get to the office. He is really good! Good luck! -
I have a very physical job. I was banded on 9/28 and still not back to work because of lifting restriction of 20 lbs. There is no light duty offered at my work so I will wait until Friday's appointment to get cleared. Total of 6 weeks.

I was supposed to go home the next morning after surgery but ended up having issues and I had to stay for 3 days and I was so glad I had these things with me. I brought severall things but these are what I really used: Chapstick -really dry lips after surgery ipod with audiobook on it. I found out after my hysterectomy I was not able to concentrate to read but I could enjoy someone reading to me. Remember the charger Nice slippers -you will be walking quite a bit after surgery and a nice padded slipper was good Extra pair of undies in case of problems with diarrhea, ( I hope you do not need them.) I wore the same clothes home as I wore to the hospital. Cell phone for texting or calls if your up for it. Remember the charger My own: toothpaste and toothbrush, heavy duty face moisturizer, deodorant, and if you have longer hair either clips or a skrunchi. They give you small sized of basics but I am more comfortable with my own. PILLOW is an absolute must for the ride home. The seat belt rubs against your incisions. I did not have this but really wished I did as we live far from the hospital. Hope this helps. Jen

Did you cheat on you post op liquid diet?
jkppt replied to nancy_marie_00's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 1 week clear, 1 week full liquids which they included yogurt, and now I am on pureed. I find it really interesting how different the doctors are in what they allow. I won't get to a regular diet until week 6. -
