After being told by every Dr.besides my Int. Med Dr. that I would need to loose weight ( I had gained 100 pounds being depressed and lonely marrid to a truck driver and in a new State-missed everything I left!)) I knew I had to make a decision. I had gone to seminars on the lap band and gastric bypass for 2 years and finally made a decision, after having many health problems including severe sleep apnea, hbp, hi choles.,borderline diabetic etc. I exercised, but then needed foot surgery on both feet and knee surgery and now have to stay off my feet.....and food was my answer to everything and I had a love affair for years with it-that's all I would think about-what am I going to eat today??? But my health was going downhill fast. It is now 05/20/10 and I got the lapband on 8/22/08. I have lost 100 pounds but still need to lose at least 40 more. I have gone through everything that everyone has written and still have the "slime" problem and am still trying to figure things out. I remember at a Christmas gathering with the Drs office , while in line I talked to another lap-bander and said gee-I cannot get this figured out(and at that time I only had it for 4 mths) and she said it takes about 1 1/2 years to finally "get it". Well here I am at almost 2 years and because of all those years of bad habits I still dont "get it"! it's like what is my problem!? My brain says need food-lots and fattening-but there is no way it's going down. I have made way better choices now, but it's weird cause my band is tight-I have had to have some cc's removed, but the sliming still continues...my stomach must get so upset and swell according to the nurses....I am dehydrated now and just trying like heck to get liquids down after getting some removed yesterday...what a learning experience this has been!!!! I guess we all find ways to survive this, and what put us here in the first place.....I love the weight loss, but anyone who says this is the "easy" way to loose weight does not know-Ihave had several people say that to me,,and just think-you have NO IDEA how hard it is....I still thank God for the lapband and feel it saved my life. I still have severe sleep apnea, so not all things are cured by weight loss,,,that's ok, because I am still alive!!
