Congrats Butterfly!!! Good luck on your journey! -
yo2118 I know exactly what you mean. When I told ppl that I was getting the Lap Band a few of them would ask me why I was taking the "easy" way out. Idk about you, but I have tried and tried to lose other ways and have failed. The Lap Band is just a tool to help get the weight off. The weight won't just fall off...you have to work with it. You still have to watch what you're putting into your body. Every pound you lose is a pound you lost on your own...the band doesn't lose the weight for you. As for feeling hungry...I haven't really been hungry at all. I just started full liquids today and had four ounces of yogurt...that was plenty! I will say though that I never realized how many food commercials were on TV! lol I have been told that getting fills regularly when you starting feeling hungry more often is a must! Right now for me, seeing the scale go downward is so much motivation. I don't think you'll feel hungry with the band. That's also why I got it, to control my portions.

If I could do it over, would I get a lap band??

There are so many more risks for gastric bypass. I have a couple of friends who almost died from complications of the bypass. I have also taken care of ppl that have had bypass that are so sick and malnourished they have to receive TPN (food through IV). I have a friend who had gastric bypass...she can eat anything and not get sick. She weighed 350 pounds when she got it done, got down to 198, and is now 250 again. She has no trouble digesting foods. -
I know the feeling Amy. You make the decision to have it done and then there's the wait. Trust me..it flies! I started the process in October and was banded May 13. It's a long journey, but it'll go fast! Good luck!

Congrats BrandiG!!! I remember that nervousness of waiting to see if my insurance would say yes. When they did, I was ecstatic! I got banded May 13. I think it was one of the hardest, but best decisions I ever made! I am so happy for you! Good luck!

May 10-14 Banders--How's it going? Share.

Bramante45- my nutritionist advised me against creamy soups because of the sodium and fat. They do have low sodium soups out there, but not sure what kinds. -

I was banded on May 13. The first couple of days were rough cuz of all the gas pain/abdominal distention. I am feeling much better. I start a full liquid diet tomorrow. My post op follow up visit is May 28. According to my scale, I lost ten pounds...hoping that continues. Not feeling hungry or anything. -
I know what you mean about trying to talk to other ppl about having the Lap Band. It's hard for some of my friends to understand why I did it. I am very happy I did. I am new to having it, but I think it is going to help me. Please keep me posted on how your surgery goes. You are going to be scared, that is normal, but it's going to be okay. The first couple of days are the hardest, but they aren't too bad.

Afraid to eat...
jllybean1982 replied to palmtreegirl70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Palmtreegirl70! I know exactly what you mean about being afraid to eat! I was banded on May 13. I have just sipped fluids throughout the day. My nutritionist said it's better to take it slow then to drink too much and cause yourself to get sick. I write down everything I take in so I know that I have at least get a decent amount of fluid as not to get dehydrated. The first couple of days, I too weighed about five pounds more than when I started. I panicked! lol It's definitely from all of the IV fluids and gas they put in you during surgery. I have been banded for a week and my scale shows a loss of ten pounds. I would just take things slow. You are healing right now. I am starting my full liquid diet tomorrow...I'm nervous, but I think it'll be okay. You know your body, so you'll know when too much is too much. -
This is one question I can answer! I got banded on May 13, 2010. I was terrified!!! When I first got there, they type and crossed matched me (in case I would need a blood transfusion which I didnt). They also made me give a urine specimen. They started an IV and hung Lactated Ringers. I then got a shot of Heparin which didnt hurt AT ALL ( I was scared tho). I talked to the surgeon and the anesthesiologist. A nurse then came in and said she'd be with me all the way, gave me something through my IV. She said after this medicine, I probably wouldn't remember anything...she was right! I woke up in my room. I have five small incisions that have steri strips on them (butterfly sutures). They had me on IV fluids and a Morphine pump for pain. I must add I woke up with a Foley Catheter, but they didn't put that in till I was asleep. I had some abdominal pain from the gas, but walking really helped. I stayed one night in the hospital and came home. I have been on clear liquids for one week. I have not felt hungry or anything...a little weak which is probably expected. Tomorrow I go to a full liquid diet. According to my scale, I have lost ten pounds. You are going to do fine! I wish you lots of luck! I have only been on this site for one day and I have found that it is really helpful!

scared about having fills done

Hi everyone! I just had my Lap Band put in last week. I am doing really good with the clear liquids. Tomorrow I progress to full liquids. I have alot of chest pains which I think is from the gas. I was wondering if you guys could help me with being so scared of having my first fill. Does it hurt? How long does it take? I now it's stupid, but I have been more afraid of getting the fills than of having the actual surgery. Thanks for your time! You guys look like you have done an awesome job with your band! Losing weight is not easy, so you should all be proud of youselves!:w00t: -

Oh my gosh! Thank you all for your help! I am so happy I found this site because this whole thing is scary. I'm a nurse and I use needles all of the time, but I'm on the dull end of that needle. I am extra gentle with my patients because I know how much I hate getting pricked. Adagray, not looking at the needle is my plan exactly! LOL I hope you guys know how much you have put me at ease. Thank you all!
